I honestly can't remember if I ever posted this before on here, but anyway, a bit of a laugh for the festive season.
This is my take on Eminem's Lose Yourself - done by an old bloke from Yorkshire.
'all mi own werk' - done in two days, from vocal to video edit. Shot entirely in my living room & bathroom. 6 camera takes from a static tripod then pick the bones out of it. Lip sync comes & goes but hey;)

Q: How to train an ML on lyrics-to-songs?

bababeeI am interested in training a machine algorithm to convert the lyrics I give into a song by a particular singer. My language is non-English (south Indian) The songs are mostly monophonic (very few instruments, if at all). I have data of a bunch of songs sung by this singer, I want to try new lyri...

A: Firing mods and forced relicensing: is Stack Exchange still interested in cooperating with the community?

Rory Alsoptl;dr - I mod 6 sites: Security, Music, Parenting, Outdoors, Sound and Video - I'm suspending all my mod activity on them until SE sort this out. I am just one voice among many, but I hope I add to the clamour. I have been hovering in TL hoping someone from Stack Exchange would come in with any ...

Q: Kolmogorov complexity of classical music

museI have an impression that classical music pieces are more "structured" than white noise and more "complicated" than the soundtracks of the Billboard Hot 100 songs. So assuming we are comparing recordings of similar duration I would expect in terms of Kolmogorov complexity C(soundtrack of a Billbo...

Wow I just noticed the theory tag passed the guitar tag which had been the dominant tag for a while.

Depending on your goals and uses of notation, I've found LilyPond to be so much faster than anything else, at least for "normal" uses. I can spit out homework examples so much faster on LilyPond than I can on any other program, just because it's done all by text. That said, I assume there are keyboard shortcuts for other programs that would speed those up, but I don't know if I'd be as fast with them as I am with LilyPond.

Q: Tag Synonyms Proposals Repository!

user45266Let's not kid ourselves - no one actually uses the "suggest tag synonyms" feature. It's slow, obscure, and difficult to obtain the relevant privileges. I even took the liberty of writing up a Meta Stack Exchange post about this under the Magic Wand Time Question. So for now, I think it might be m...

@TheTurtle If you're up for "one sustained sound" rather than repeated sound, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/As_Slow_as_Possible . John Cage wrote a piece titled "As Slow as Possible," so it's being played on an organ in Germany for the next 639 years. You walk into the church, hear a chord sounding; that same chord might continue for a couple of years.

..In a way the Ab chord functions a bit like a ii chord in a ii-V-I since it shares 2 of 3 notes with a Cm (ii) chord.

One interesting thing I've found is that on an acoustic accordion, the bass chords are typically too loud, which is why trad accordion style is to have very staccato chords. But a lead guitar amp attenuates the bass significantly, so you should be able to tune things to get perfect balance

Trying to learn to identify intervals by ear? Bow down to the regrettably brilliant Interval Song by Django Bates.

There were a handful of harmonically awkward moments, and maybe the structure could be tighter in places. I'll see about some more specific comments as I get to know the piece better. But overall, congratulations.

Eureka! These deconstructed/isolated tracks from old songs is the perfect musical analogue to the City Museum itself, which is adorned with architectural artwork scavenged/salvaged from the ruins of the 20th century.

I just nominated myself for a third mod election. In the election on coffee.SE I think I narrowly snatched defeat from the jaws of victory (I didn't pick myself as first choice and lost in the third round). But in this one at computergraphics, I might be a shoe in due to low participation. Might be a good venue to gain some experience as a (potential) first time mod.

Yesterday I was introduced to the Online Chopin Variorum Edition. Amazing resource! So far, I've used it to compare manuscript and first editions of Chopin's works measure by measure. High resolution scans. You can click on a measure of some piece in some edition, and you get thumbnails of that measure in each available edition. Click on a thumbnail to get the high res image of just that measure. I just killed a whole evening that way.

Hi Dylan. Thanks for reaching out. It seems to me you've set yourself up perfectly to restate the main motive in C major, with the left hand leading, and the right hand following. (I've pulled the image you posted and re-posted here.)

Q: How do I use such multiple character ligature signs for Musical Notation?

I remember learning about Chick Corea in high school Music Appreciation and Jazz Band. But the thing that really sticks in my mind was years later I heard him play some Mozart piece (I forget which) but before that he improvised a prelude on the theme, bridging the gaps of styles and centuries. That helped me to see both classical and jazz music in a completely different way.

Most commonly, music is notated with the pulse represented by quarter notes: that is, a time signature of X/4. But when a consistent triplet feel is wanted, we use a time signature of 3X/8, where the dotted quarter note gets the "large" beat. By extension, then I could make a double-dotted quarter note the "large" beat for pieces with consistent septuplet feel: 7X/16. Likewise, a triple-dotted quarter note could be used for 15X/32. Now if only this was useful....

@nbro Sorry, I'm a little late to this. I don't see anything too awful either, but I agree that it doesn't really answer the question; it's more of a word vomit of tangentially related ideas that circles the target without ever really hitting it.
