@bmike They seem to be advertising it as "your next computer". I still feel that theres a ton of things a computer can do that iPadOS can't. I am not sure where the iPad really fits in.
@ankii PDFs are universal anyway, but the fun fact is that I can still take my diploma thesis from 1992 and run them through LaTeX to get a PDF which looks the same as the document I printed back then. Try that with with Word :-)
@nohillside I imagine LaTeX pdfs are universal and if someone spent $1300 for a laptop replacement, they should be able to make a latex document on that tablet itself.
Love it. I think this is the best little hack ever. Someone really aught to throw up a quick cocoa app for choosing your key and checking/changing the press-and-hold options that are shown.
I got my SSD which I will put in the optical bay on my iMac when the caddy arrives - I wanted to install a fresh copy of Lion on it rather than restore, so I hooked it up to my air, attached the SSD via a USB cable, hit Cmd-R and logged into with my Apple ID, and off it goes, throwing a fresh Lion install on a brand new disk. No media, no downloading and running installers, or created bootable DVDs etc.

they also often have refurbs that were ordered - shipped and then never opened. You can score serious discounts in the refurb room from Apple - always check there
@IanC. Personally I'd like to see what others use. I've made my own review comments but I'd definitely be interested in what an actual moderator uses as well as suggestions for improvements.
I could make this no contest with about 20 simple clicks. Not that it would go unnoticed... (and I would have gotten away with it if it weren't for you meddling kids!)
I don't mind, the Rep is a bonus, a little fun and a good way to judge nothing but spare time spent. The gratification is in knowing you helped, and in this case his comments were far more pleasing than 15 rep ever will be
@Daniel agreed, to an extent, but the average demographic is coming here to either ask, or help, and the only people who gain from such a bump are the curious ever present knowledge magpies. And, unfortunately, Ask Different is sufficiently low traffic to make flooding a more regular occcurance
