You don't get to survey a room with 14 boxes of booklets, ready to be closed up and shipped around the country and say to yourself "Ah, so this is what it feels like to be a crazy pamphleteer."

@msh210, @MonicaCellio, and anyone else sharing the review draft with rabbis, if they point out the Sheimot concern, please let them know that we are going to remove all instances of non-erasable Sheimot before we finalize and publish.

> Wow, that is incredible... and so fast! I'm going to share this update with the entire company. You should be very proud of the work that went into this project and the leadership needed to pull this off.

12-13 second-party edits to go. It'd be great to have these done on schedule - by the end of tomorrow night.

600+ views of the landing page. 1300+ paper copies distributed. From all accounts, distribution was pretty successful, with many copies getting picked up pretty quickly. Lots of reported positive comments, and doubtless plenty of unreported. Many new users suddenly popping up and posting. Yeyasher Kocheinu to everyone who worked on this project.

... So 1400 copies * 91635 characters * 1 / 30000 grains / charachter * 1 / 7000 pounds /grain = 0.6109 pounds (more than the staples!), bringing our total to 404.0629 pounds. Thanks for pointing that and the staples out. We were off by nearly a pound!

@MonicaCellio Classic Rabbi. Not assuming multiple spelling patterns means multiple authors.

@spolsky FYI we're making a book for Rosh Hashana & Yom Kippur and crowdfunding a print run. It's gonna be awesome. http://meta.judaism.stackexchange.com/q/3669/

New feature: one or two questions included in the book, for which we don't present answers, leaving readers to think about them?

I think we'll have a better chance of getting production done on-schedule if we can pick up a couple more volunteers to help with first- and second-party edits. There's probably some room to absorb slippage in later steps, but not tons. The current stage and the next one are ideal for parallel processing, so if we could add some more processors, it'd be great.

@Scimonster @MonicaCellio @DoubleAA @msh210 If you have an extra few minutes tonight, please look through the list, and any unused questions on the list that you don't have time to edit right now, but that (taking a brief but critical look at the Q&A) you'd be sad to not see it get in, and mark them with a *. We can then see how many are marked and a) see how much deadline-stretching may be indicated, and b) concentrate our last push of first-party editing.

I'd love input on the Jewcer project. Some textboxes I have (and what's currently in them):

Because we'll be sharing (limited) copies of the draft beyond Mi Yodeya, let's make sure there's a clear "draft" notation in there somewhere. You can remove it from the Word doc as soon as you make the draft PDF, in case modifying headers/footers/watermark/whatever affects layout, but I want the PDF I send to rabbis to be clearly a draft. Ok?

Copy to consider for a donation solicitation: "In round terms, printing and shipping each booklet will cost about $3. So, thanks to Stack Exchange's generous offer to double-match your donation, each dollar you donate will enable one more person to pick up this booklet in the synagogue, read it, abd share it at home."

I don't mind paying ~5% overhead for a platform and payment-management.

That was a response, not a correction
Aug 28, 2015 21:29
(That wasn't meant as a technical (e.g. philatelic) term. Maybe it was fine or mint or something.)
Aug 25, 2015 21:24
Thank you, @IsaacMoses, for all your work. Especially the manual labor; others worked on this, too, but at a desk (or on a phone or whatever).
Aug 25, 2015 20:02
@IsaacMoses It's not easy being a loan shark.
Aug 25, 2015 03:18
Then you schedule a pickup. Then you bribe a guy to actually do it. America!
Aug 24, 2015 03:44
@msh210 well, maybe one, to scan for posterity :)
Aug 19, 2015 17:45
@Scimonster It's actually 403.452, to put too fine a point on it.

@IsaacMoses BTW, when you get the books, you should take a picture of the impressive pile. :-) And/or the pile of outgoing boxes.

With thanks to my husband, who (a) brought the OED to the marriage and (b) kindly looked this up for me because, wow, tiny print.

@TRiG Thank you very much! Your help is invaluable. Your efforts, combined with those of @Scimonster and @msh210, create a shield against errors that's not easily pierced.

I will, beli neder, release V1.0 tonight, and ask for final vetting and proofreading by the end of Saturday night. On Sunday night, I'll apply final fixes and put in the print order. I did not move the due date for sending out packages, since we want to make sure people have them on time. That leaves 11 days for Staples to send me the prints, and then for me to turn around and send them out. I expect that to be sufficient.
Aug 9, 2015 23:58
@MonicaCellio could you explain to him that the former is an expression of our diversity?
Aug 6, 2015 20:47
@DanF Ah, but you did contribute (besides $) - as an author! This answer of yours is on p. 18. :)
