Are there any programming languages with <type> <name> = <expr> syntax?

Would be nice if people could ping her when they act on her information though, so that she can know if she's useful or not

@aaa Duga is a bot! She quotes some Stack Overflow comments here that seem to mention the Software Engineering site.

@luserdroog I'd argue that you can still do MVC in functional programming. Instead of being a way to conceptually group objects (or classes) into those three groupings, it becomes a way to conceptually group functions.

@AndyDufresne This chat room is for discussions, but typically there's no one around to have discussions with. The main site is for software engineering questions, but not for open ended discussions.

@Ixrec I'm sorry, I forgot to mention I'm a programmer. That makes this on topic here. It's literally in the title.

@CATboardBETA Seems like Jetbrauns uses JS/TS support to differentiate their Community and Ultimate editions so you're not going to find such a plugin (the only supported “plugin” is the upgrade to Intellij Ultimate).

@Ampt you can't shit on my love for functional programming, it's immutable; you can only shit on copies of it.

PSA: Due to @Duga seemingly flooding this room, I plan on moving her comments to another room. If there are any objections to this, let me know.

@tgkprog Perhaps "full_status" and "child_status" would be appropriate.

Q: Moderator Resignation Notice

Robert HarveyI'm resigning as a moderator from all Stack Exchange sites, effective today. I didn't make this decision lightly, frivolously or suddenly. A persistent pattern of corporate missteps, and a monumentally deplorable moderator dismissal, has compelled me to re-evaluate my relationship with Stack Ex...

I think that making algorithm and data structures questions off-topic is a huge disservice to this community. There's a big gap between the algorithms and data structures questions on Computer Science and what a practitioner actually cares about.

@SimonForsberg I'd also like to keep Duga here, as long as this doesn't impose extra cost on you. Duga has been a very good bot. I don't really follow up on the comments any longer, but her messages are the rug that really ties this chatroom together.

@Tim There have been technical discussions here. I'd say most folks who ask a question here get a decent answer within a day or so, which seems pretty impressive given the low number of users that are usually here.

If you need to learn something, and you're not going to school to learn it, you need to learn how to teach yourself stuff. Being an autodidact isn't easy. And popping into a chat room expecting someone to take you from zero to hero in a few emails will never work.

Just a note - We're going to be meeting early next week to talk about this, and probably come back with some more questions. The change isn't off the table, but it's got to be comprehensive and pretty surgical. A more appropriate name would let you cut the giant list of stuff not to ask pretty significantly, it's not a horrible idea. We also need to make sure everyone's expectations of what this change might bring are aligned and realistic. Anyway, stay tuned. — Tim Post ♦ 7 hours ago

@JimmyHoffa because that CEO was bonkers. Most of the walls in the building were made of glass and it had an elevated "VIP" walkway so that he could bring in potential investors and show off his employees. We were animals in a zoo.

@ThomasOwens I wanted to thank you personally for all the hard work you did getting the site to where it is today. I was not as involved in this effort as I wanted to be, but I am glad to see that you really stepped up and did a good job representing the community. Thank you!
