@drewbenn: But a much better idea is to take the picture about 20 minutes after sunset. You'll still have a night feeling, but the sky and landscape will be brighter.

@Shizam memory cards, bottle of water, 2nd body with 2nd biggest lens you own, spare batteries, waterproof stuff for the rain, hi vis jacket, lunch, etc
Feb 28, 2011 22:02
i love how random the starred comments are
Feb 26, 2011 20:04
you don't want too much foliage on it or it will obscure their legs
Feb 26, 2011 17:51
I think we need to seed the site with a few questions... Hmmm...
Feb 25, 2011 23:03
@rfusca What's crazy to me is that people don't take the time to really find the right photographer... It's an education problem that people think "all photographers are the same," really and the customer's not to blame... The photography industry needs to do a better job of spreading the message that "all photographers are not created equal," and that- just like when you hire a plumber- you should be thinking about hiring an expert to do an expert job...
Feb 25, 2011 20:40
It requires the right knowledge to use a wide-angle lens, and that's something that few amateur photographers really understand.
Feb 23, 2011 22:23
well thats not true, i'd rather have a crappy photograph of a once in a lifetime event from onboard flash than no photograph
Feb 23, 2011 22:14
Yep, you got it. The only reason someone might not want to go with the Tupperware version is if they're not too handy, or they don't want something 'DIY looking' on the end of their flash (generally more of a concern for pros where it's sometimes as important to look like a pro as be a pro)...
Feb 23, 2011 21:30
:) Man yesterday I was trying to photograph her homeade english muffins and had to just wrap it up quick so I could scarf them
Feb 23, 2011 21:24
...and congrats to @pearsonartphoto for not getting it... You'll be there soon enough on rep alone at the rate you're going.
Feb 23, 2011 21:24
So you'll have all the power but none of the responsibility. :-)
Feb 23, 2011 21:19
its like a freaking star fest over there today
Feb 23, 2011 21:19
@Pearsonartphoto I save my snark for the comments sections on answers.
Feb 23, 2011 21:13
@Pearsonartphoto In this crowd a TON of stars is generally 2... or occasionally 3... I don't know if I've ever gotten 5 stars on a comment...
Feb 23, 2011 20:18
better luck next year @Pearsonartphoto :)
Feb 23, 2011 19:37
sorry jamwheel, not everyone has smugmug quality of support. :)
Feb 23, 2011 19:05
Interesting new badge there is... The outspoken badge.
Feb 23, 2011 17:54
can I just be the first to welcome our new moderation overlords? Whoever they end up being. :)
Feb 22, 2011 18:45
For those of you smugmuggers out there
Feb 19, 2011 20:20
that was to do with me being annoyed about US companies forgetting the rest of the world :)
Feb 19, 2011 03:03
Feb 18, 2011 20:41
I'm hoping to become a professional lottery winner...
Feb 18, 2011 20:28
@jrista You need to give up programming, and start a real job like photographer ;)
Feb 18, 2011 20:28
@rfusca maybe we should get him some handrails for his soapbox :)
Feb 18, 2011 19:24
@JamWheel eh, you guys got the ball rolling, but clearly couldn't keep up....we had to take over ;)
Feb 18, 2011 19:21
@JayLancePhotography it will move you to tears...you'll end up naming your child "Rfusca" just in honor...
Feb 18, 2011 19:21
Well I was already going to pitch that one to the wife, but now I'll have even more of a compelling argument...
Feb 18, 2011 19:20
@rfusca No pressure... I'm sure it will be the most amazing answer ever... Not just for this question... For all questions...
Feb 18, 2011 19:18
Anyone want to vote for tag synonyms? photo.stackexchange.com/tags/synonyms
Feb 17, 2011 20:04
@JamWheel he was! he even pointed at the window and stuck out his tongue while waving a box of extension tubes!
Feb 16, 2011 19:41

Feb 16, 2011 18:32
we're computer guys, if work isn't dull its usually bad
Feb 16, 2011 04:56
The opinion of the community as a whole is usually better than the opinion of a single user. That is reflected plenty of times on SO, when the OP quite often simply selects the first answer given as the "correct" answer, regardless of whether it actually is...the community vote power allows the community to "override" that with a far higher score on a better answer.
Feb 16, 2011 01:20
thnx cabbey, shizam and pearson for making me try smugmug :)
Feb 16, 2011 01:07
man 1hr and your site is more customized than mine is after 3.5yrs
Feb 15, 2011 19:37
now iphone has a viable competitor it pushes them to improve and vice versa -
Feb 15, 2011 19:33
toasters running android matter less :)
Feb 14, 2011 20:45
Even I, the newcomer to the mod races, don't really have a good reason to be running, other than that I like to be a leader.
Feb 14, 2011 20:22
What?! We don't get a THC? Man, that's so unfair...
Feb 14, 2011 20:16
We're pretty international here, its usually quite an accident when more than a few of us end up on here at the same time. Scheduled events in the past like critque sessions have shown low attendance. Like Jay, I'd be pretty shocked if more than a few folks came.
Feb 14, 2011 20:07
I blame @Pearsonartphoto - if he hadn't have run, it would've been uncontested ;)
Feb 14, 2011 03:47
it never ceases to amaze me...how a cat can seemingly shed enough fur each week to cover its entire body....and yet...never actually appear to lose any fur
Feb 14, 2011 03:47
thats cuz cats are spawn of satan
Feb 11, 2011 17:07
I'll take "that's never would have occured to me, but seems bloody brilliant" for $400 Alex....
Feb 11, 2011 06:18
@JayLancePhotography photograph the ice!
Feb 11, 2011 03:59
I think I broke the soapbox earlier
Feb 11, 2011 02:10
lets start a consortium of photography nerds
Feb 11, 2011 01:57
college taught me that either stupid people can look good on paper too or that the standards are just too low
