@rfusca Yeah, well...when I write an answer, I think about the google search aspect as well. I want my answers to be as well specified as I can, so that it some random reader comes off of a search engine, they have context in my answer...and don't have to be a regular reader to understand what I'm trying to say.

Thanks! I always found it tedious and inconsistent until I learned that method. Unfortunately, it's made me want to upgrade to a body that memorizes corrections on a per lens basis since I always buy used lenses.

nikon TTL definitely overexposes most of my macro stuff

It doesn't really suck as bad as I make it out to. The issues with P-TTL that I've encountered is consistency. Sometimes it overexposes, sometimes it underexposes. Also, it seems to overexpose all my macro shots. Then of course it lacks features like groups and modifying power from the DSLR.

if P-TTL sucks, that may be why the pentax representation at TFB was so low

Babies tends to be a low overhead place to start because all you have to do is hang a white backdrop and wait for the kiddo to do something cute. :-)

0.3: Process reduced set of colors to identify top 5-10 colors present in an image

0.1: Quantize the image by converting to L*a*b space, and matching against a fixed, named color set.

0.2: Reduce quantization further by bucketizing named colors with a mean euclidean distance < 10

Oh, I forgot one other rule.

Elimination Factor: When two selected colors have a euclidean distance of < 15, one will be dropped from consideration and reselected.

6. Darkest color (closest to the lower left corner of the value/sat plot.) Black is excluded unless it comprises 50% or more of the image.

5. Least "pure" color (closest to the upper left corner of the value/sat plot). White is excluded unless it comprises X% of the image, or Y% of the image when black comprises 50% or more of the image.

1. Most common color, or top two most common colors if they cover around 35-45% each.

2. Most saturated color (closest to right edge of the value/sat plot)

3. Most "pure" color (closest to the upper right corner of the value/sat plot)

4. Brightest color (closest to the top edge of the value/sat plot)
