I've actually got a list of questions/answers sitting next to me at my computer which I want to tackle... After I finish construction on my studio and after my wife has the baby.
Mar 30, 2011 13:18
@JayLancePhotography You're designing your own studio now, just make it look like that - fake equipment and all ;). Just don't use it lure federal agents into cages.
Mar 30, 2011 02:59
@rfusca Yeah, well...when I write an answer, I think about the google search aspect as well. I want my answers to be as well specified as I can, so that it some random reader comes off of a search engine, they have context in my answer...and don't have to be a regular reader to understand what I'm trying to say.

in a general sense
Mar 29, 2011 02:09
the word "key" means main, primary, or most prominent
Mar 28, 2011 21:28
I wish I had the time to drive out to the middle of nowhere, find some nice rolling hill with a lone tree, and capture the tree in proper context. :(
Mar 28, 2011 14:12
And now I own a tumbleweed badge (But on Area 51, not this site...)
Mar 27, 2011 17:04
and way after your wife is
Mar 27, 2011 16:55
@JayLancePhotography she'll come out when she's ready
Mar 27, 2011 16:55

At this point, I'm pulling from memory. But I got this from blogs.msdn.com/b/billcrow/archive/2007/10/25/…
Mar 26, 2011 02:39
@mattdm - LOL, by all means, tilt away! Just don't be upset if you do a face plant in the mud! :)
Mar 25, 2011 03:43
@mattdm Or just RIDICULOUSLY BRILLIANT
Mar 25, 2011 03:41
With this site, there's answers to most questions. Some other sites, well, it can be quite difficult...
Mar 25, 2011 03:28
I now posses one nice, shiny, gold badge;-)
Mar 24, 2011 04:13
Thanks! I always found it tedious and inconsistent until I learned that method. Unfortunately, it's made me want to upgrade to a body that memorizes corrections on a per lens basis since I always buy used lenses.
Mar 23, 2011 01:08
but yeah I think TTL is kind of a crapshoot on any system
Mar 23, 2011 01:06
@rfusca That makes me feel better :)
Mar 23, 2011 00:59
nikon TTL definitely overexposes most of my macro stuff
Mar 23, 2011 00:56
It doesn't really suck as bad as I make it out to. The issues with P-TTL that I've encountered is consistency. Sometimes it overexposes, sometimes it underexposes. Also, it seems to overexpose all my macro shots. Then of course it lacks features like groups and modifying power from the DSLR.
Mar 23, 2011 00:45
if P-TTL sucks, that may be why the pentax representation at TFB was so low
Mar 23, 2011 00:42
@EvanKrall Pentax P-TTL sucks compared to nikon/canon
Mar 22, 2011 04:40
seems matt and I are in an eternal battle for the highest number of edits ;P
Mar 18, 2011 17:10
@JayLancePhotography hows the building coming?
Mar 18, 2011 03:11
I would REALLY like to have that LaTeX markup added to our site.
Mar 18, 2011 00:54
And as soon as april hits, I won't get shit, since the Robins arrive, start chirping at 3am, and fight for mates. Fuckin birds!
Mar 15, 2011 18:47
Closer isn't the same. ;)
Mar 13, 2011 00:15
@jrista - Spend some time in Napoli and tell me that! :)
Mar 10, 2011 20:34
that is the worst website I have ever seen,I have no idea what content is where on it - where is what you linked to?
Mar 8, 2011 22:34
you iso nerds, were you aware of this? shootintheshot.joshsilfen.com/2010/05/13/…
Mar 7, 2011 22:34
Babies tends to be a low overhead place to start because all you have to do is hang a white backdrop and wait for the kiddo to do something cute. :-)

0.3: Process reduced set of colors to identify top 5-10 colors present in an image
Mar 5, 2011 19:33
0.1: Quantize the image by converting to L*a*b space, and matching against a fixed, named color set.
Mar 5, 2011 19:33
0.2: Reduce quantization further by bucketizing named colors with a mean euclidean distance < 10
Mar 5, 2011 19:32
Oh, I forgot one other rule.
Mar 5, 2011 19:28
Elimination Factor: When two selected colors have a euclidean distance of < 15, one will be dropped from consideration and reselected.
Mar 5, 2011 19:27
6. Darkest color (closest to the lower left corner of the value/sat plot.) Black is excluded unless it comprises 50% or more of the image.
Mar 5, 2011 19:26
5. Least "pure" color (closest to the upper left corner of the value/sat plot). White is excluded unless it comprises X% of the image, or Y% of the image when black comprises 50% or more of the image.
Mar 5, 2011 19:25
1. Most common color, or top two most common colors if they cover around 35-45% each.
Mar 5, 2011 19:25
2. Most saturated color (closest to right edge of the value/sat plot)
Mar 5, 2011 19:25
3. Most "pure" color (closest to the upper right corner of the value/sat plot)
Mar 5, 2011 19:25
4. Brightest color (closest to the top edge of the value/sat plot)

A ton of my rep was gotten the same way. :-)
Mar 5, 2011 18:21
sweet! i couldn't figure out the point of setting exposure compensation in manual mode until now
Mar 5, 2011 08:13
ok, this site has officially reached addiction levels now. I just spent 4 hours chasing @mattdm's bounty for vibrance in the gimp.
