@mattdm =) sometimes it really gets to me. How is a noun + adjective a question? I hate to be viewed as a grammar pedant, but... c'mon people!

@gparyani I'm not really into the contest thing due to the way the rights are set up. I'm more than a little disappointed with the way they retroactively changed the permissions for images we uploaded into answers. I'll continue to reuse images I've already uploaded in new answers when they contribute to the answer, but I'll not be uploading any more new images.

This stack has no life. No pizazz nor personality. Just the empty soul of a robotic snail that refuses to change course. Thank you, Michael, for helping me to realize that. I hope you enjoy the solitude and wish you the best of luck.

it doesn't help any that some of the more technical communities go after any question that doesn't have a single concrete answer like it was the plague

in some sites that may make sense, but when carried over to an arts site, it is very counter productive

If you were in any "HDR" mode then the camera combined multiple exposures. The bird moved between the exposures. The dimmer one is either because it is only one frame while the bird didn't move for the other frames or it is the dimmest of the multiple exposures. Probably both.

@Viziionary many cameras will do this with the in-camera settings expecting it to be fine tuned later, those same settings get applied by default

@Viziionary I concur with what Michael said, looks like a SOOC image with just the camera settings applied to make it in to something viewable. White balance isn't really precise enough for something that's been touched up. Way too much blue, nothing overly contrast cranked or anything

@PatoSáinz I like the colors and the ambience, but I don't get the point of it, if you see what I mean?

StackExchange is a network of sites for programmers that do photography. Programmers that cook. Programmers that fly planes.

For reasons we can't fully explain, the spirit orbs seem to be inexorably attracted to cheap lenses and Promaster UV filters. We're confounded.

2. Don't answer the questions that we don't like (for whatever reason), choosing to simply move along quietly, resisting the temptation to add a bunch of crap in the comments, and instead just letting other photo-SE users tackle them, or let the questions just "hang out" for a few days to see what happens... without all the stupid crap that seems to have been increasingly going on in the comments over the last month or two...

Ya. But again, it is a community site, not a top-down one. Part of the reason the site is good is because the moderators are good about following the community's input. There's a little bit of benevolent-dictatorism, but not very much, all told.

@EuriPinhollow NO manufacturer is going to tell a customer it is OK to do anything out of the ordinary with their equipment. I mean, consider that according to manufacturers using a USB cord other than the one they included with the camera will cause the endof the universe as we know it.

I just posted some initial thoughts on the meta thread. Short answer: if the community would be behind me going, and the opportunity was available, I'd be more than happy to go do something like that... Sounds like fun!

@Shizam Ken Rockwell is that 'talk radio shock jock' of photography bloggers... Which is to say that he's more an 'entertainer' than a 'pundant.' Just like a Howard Stern or a Glenn Beck can get people all riled up (whether listeners agree or disagree doesn't matter that much), by having such strong contrarian views and being willing to argue, Ken Rockwell gets people coming to his site...

@EvanKrall Don't believe the haters... Anyone who buys a D3x or a 1Ds will automatically and instantly become a totally l33t photog! It's even better if you get two. Believe the hype, man... It's all true. ;-)

@Shizam Wait, you mean if I buy a D3x or a 1Ds, my pictures won't magically be amazing?

Artistic photography has always been about using the tools to produce the result you want, not just photocopying what's in front of the lens.

but i also say screw them, if they aren't able to provide a superior product, marketing, and experience then that is their own fault! they shouldn't be competing with amateurs anyways.

@ankiiiiiii Please see this meta: photo.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/5906/… I encourage you to follow steps in the question on the main site. We don't have enough actual photo critique on main, and I'd love to see more. If you'd like some feedback, that'd be a good process to follow
