Nobody came out of this smelling like roses, and in order to move forward we need to focus on what we learnt that we can implement going forward. Finger-pointing at this point would be very counterproductive.

This is the sort of thing I've been asking for all along: just be more careful about how we use our words. The things the mod team has been doing are the right things, almost every time. The way the mod team chooses to express itself, however, can be needlessly confrontational.

Today was a "screw it, donuts" day.

It's certainly bigger than anything I've ever handled, and that was hard enough. I really do respect and appreciate the time and effort the mods have volunteered for the site.

I need to head out. I'll just say: I'm glad the mod team is thinking about how to improve its relations with the site, and I'm hopeful. But I'm also concerned that there's an attitude it's the rules results which determine the success of mod actions, and the community's failing cohesion and health and trust can blamed on citizens but moderators seem reluctant use it as another gauge for their own effectiveness.

@SevenSidedDie What mxyzplk intended to convey is less important than what he actually did convey. That's not to say intent doesn't matter at all, but this is one point I think we keep getting caught on. People are responsible for the results of their words and actions, regardless whether they line up with their intentions.

That's what this is about for me: The mod team repeatedly insisted that the citizens had knowingly made a decision and the mods were enacting it, citing posts made by citizens who were right there saying they felt otherwise. When the mods were called out on this, the sarcasm and condescension came into play.

Being completely certain that you were right and don't need to take responsibility, in this and many other circumstances, is one of the major impediments to this discussion ever being productive.

everyone should have started by listening to each other and being reasonable and rational. instead some people dismissed feelings while other people started shouting

I don't want to raise any complaints, and I don't want to take sides here, but in cases such as this mods should be taking the high moral ground, not (as is apparently happening) more or less ignoring the issue or brushing it aside like it isn't a big deal

I like this site and would like everyone not to be like,... mad at each other

Look guys, at the end of the day, the moderators still have a job to do. If you don't trust us to do it, you know the channels to go through, contact the community team. And yes, the folksonomy concept makes me wary of re-naming something from a common term. Of course, common terms in the RPG community are so often fractured in meaning that it's harder to support.

@Rubiksmoose Because one on one communication is the right tool for the job initially. Involving authority figures or public call outs are not.

@KorvinStarmast yeah, the other factor that really weighs against voter ID laws for me is the way they're used in conjunction with increased bureaucratic barriers to getting the documentation to begin with

@vicky_molokh It has the potential to be a hot topic, but in any case it would tend to have extended conversation around it, and the election chat is intended to be all about the RPG election. Candidate cross examination, what have you.

@Carcer I think it's more a reflection that this specific room is designed for discussing our election, not election processes in general.

@Rubiksmoose well, that's not necessarily true. There are some subjects which are hot topics in some countries that we do not consider so controversial as to merit moving to NAB.

Just a point of note, ID requirements and voting is somewhat of a hot issue in the US at least. It might be good if people want to talk to talk about RL voting policy to move it to NAB?

I have to disagree with there being a display of double-standards, but I can understand where that view is coming from. This distinction if the age/otherwise activity of the questions as discussed above. Because of the nature of V2's edits (generally a last polish of Q or As) they're going to be shown as the last editor. But that hasn't changed which posts are in the active feed and are relevant for oversight. That last point is the concern with high edit volumes.

So this should be brought to the moderators' attention who will deal with it.

And this is the important bit: that the one thing I can promise is, if she wants to tell me when I screw up, I won't get defensive or aggressive, I'll listen and apologize and fix what I can and work to become better. She can tell me I'm wrong and I will not become a threat.

I think a lot of the upset at Twilight is simply that people who identify themselves as "enjoyers of vampire fiction" are uncomfortable with having that category overlap so aggressively with "enjoyers of high school romance fiction."
