I don't think we hate devops, it's just that
1) Truly Awesome SysAdmins have been doing things that the devops fanbois are only just know learning.
2) Most people who call themselves devops these days are just fourth year CompSci students who decided to drink an extra Red Bull before reading the Wikipedia page on Puppet.

Unfortunately the investigation was removed from my "domain" so I don't know what happened in the end... All I heard was a "user initiated disk wipe" but fuck it I threw together a lessons learned for the question in case anyone else hits something like that.
