So lead acid is just "fill it with power -> profit". NiCd and NiMH are all "trickle charge forever, or charge at 0.5C and wait till it gets hot". Then Li-ion comes along and acts like a spoiled child who wants everything to go his way.
Li-ions are very picky. They don't like being overcharged or overdischarged. They don't like charging too fast or in the cold. They don't like being trickle charged or float charged. They don't like being charged at above around 0.5C. They don't like being kept at a high SOC or a low SOC. They don't like being unbalanced (e.g. one cell at 4.15 and another at 4.18).

Moscow man buys newspaper, glances at front page, throws it straight out. Next day: same again. And again. Eventually, seller snaps. "Why DO you do that?" "Oh, I'm just checking for an obituary" "But obituaries aren't even on the front page!" "Oh, the one I'm looking for will be"
