Help: Desktop Notification
Desktop notification is a tool provided by some browsers for displaying content outside the regular browser, but it can be confusing to manage the permissions. This page discusses how to enable (or re-enable) permission for this feature.
In Chrome / Chromium
- Click the spanner icon and select "Options"
- Change to the "Under the Bonnet" tab
- Under "Privacy", select "Content settings..."
- Under "Features:", select "Notifications"
- Ensure "Desktop Notification Settings:" is set to "Ask me..." (recommended) or "Allow..."
- Click "Exceptions..." and ensure that chat.stackexchange.com is not set to "Block"; if it is, select that row and click "Remove"
- Close all the options windows, reload the chat page, and try clicking the link to enable desktop notifiactions
