I keep getting an error message
simple_file.c:206:2: error: 'EFI_BOOT_SERVICES' has no member named 'LocalHandleBuffer'
the source is here:

@gabemai Where is simple_file.c?

in the library part of the source directory
@GeorgeEdison in the library part of the source directory

Oh, I see it now.

do you know what is going wrong with the code or compiling
?

This is what I see in Git:

12:50 AM
@GeorgeEdison do you know what is going wrong with the code or compiling?

uefi_call_wrapper(BS->LocateHandleBuffer, 5, ByProtocol,

I know it is calling a function but that is about it

Try opening up your copy of simple_file.c and changing line 206 from:
uefi_call_wrapper(BS->LocalHandleBuffer, 5, ByProtocol,
...to...
uefi_call_wrapper(BS->LocateHandleBuffer, 5, ByProtocol,
Just an idea. I don't know if it will work.

oh whoops I mispelled locate
as local

It works now?

12:54 AM
no

so... is Ubuntu for tablets a DE? and how would apparently like libre office run on it?

i misspelled in the question
i asked you
i misspelled locate in the question
i asked you
@GeorgeEdison i misspelled locate in the question i asked you

Hmm... I'm not really sure then.
You might want to try asking a question on Ask Ubuntu then.

ok
i will
thanks
bye

1:10 AM
Ubuntu touch looks a little suspicious to me
haven't seen or heard of one person who got libre office running on it

1:39 AM
@jrg I can see why you would like the shell, aesthetically it's incredibly well done.

2:12 AM
Oh, I love it when apport reports itself as crashed ...

2:33 AM
<--- is installing Eclipse and hating every minute of it.

@GeorgeEdison working on porting something to android?

Yup :)

\o/

I'm currently waiting for this to complete:
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs eclipse

I only got as far as running the VM in the android coding book i got, need to do some more with it
@GeorgeEdison I'm running Mountain Lion on a external drive, installing qt 5 and all sorts of other stuff right now

2:36 AM
Cool!

there are small things, like mac wants all programs signed or from app store (you can lower security, but initially confusing.)

Why does Eclipse need libqtwebkit4?!?

Built-in browser, I believe.
Either that, or the intro thingies and stuff run on a simple HTML/webpage like I think netbeans does it that way.
Buuut I haven't used eclipse in ages, so ... dunno if I'm mixing stuff up here.

@FEichinger I know what it is - I just don't understand why Eclipse (a Java application) is using Qt4 libraries.
Now downloading the eclipse-pde package... all 67 MB of it >:(

Hey @Seth ! Thanks for the bounty on your keyboard question. Very cool and unexpected.

2:43 AM
@GeorgeEdison Oh that's what you're worried about? Then the answer is: Because screw Java's L&F stuff.
It's plain and simple much easier to use Qt than any "dedicated" java lib for that and integrating it into that messy pile that is swing and awt.

Now I get it. All I can say is: Java == "yuck!".

That pretty much sums it up, yes.

...and all of these extra packages are going to mean more updates.

Java is great for learning object oriented design. It's simple, barely anything can break.
But for anything serious, Java is, well ... "yuck!"

Yeah - all of the packages are installing now.

must resist sending @jrg an email.

Too late.

Dangit!

May I see the table that has been flipped?

Was thinking about what I would send ... I thought I'd attach an image of a table! :P

This is the bane of my existence.

How do I purge all Eclipse related files from ~?

jrg
Although that gif is strangely therapeutic.

I need to wipe out all config. files.

@GeorgeEdison rm -rf /

Don't you also need:
--no-preserve-root

3:01 AM
Hush, you're ruining the joke!

Eclipse is bringing my computer to its knees!

Today was awesome for me. I won a bet. A friend of a friend was arguing with him that the laptop he had (Some laptop made in my country that is very likely to not have any drivers in Linux at all) would never work on any Linux distro. He tried OpenSuse, Fedora, Debian and Mageia. None work. Either the wireless did not work, or the video or it failed booting afterwards.
So I come with a pen drive with 12.10.. Plug the sucker in. Boot from it. Install (And remove all the other distros) and... done
everything worked.

3:16 AM
Awwww yeeeahh!

awesome

That's a screenshot from an actual Android phone too.

@GeorgeEdison When you get to testing, I can test on my cubieboard it has android 4.0

(I ran it on my own phone instead of using the emulator.)
@mateo_salta That's a loooong ways off :)

I know ;)
urg, I think the only thing I'm missing is the new gcc.

3:34 AM
What version do you have?
Anything 4.6+ will work.

it's like 4.2
on my list to install, almost there!
later time to sleep

Okay.

4:01 AM
There must be something wrong with Amarok - it's using almost as much memory as Eclipse.

Whoa... over 10 GB of stuff from this page have been downloaded in the last 3-4 days.

Moderators! Four spam questions! Where are you?
It's 5 now
@Oli: ?

@GeorgeEdison You developed Nitro-share, right?
My girlfriend is digging it. Nice and simple app. Well done.

Tonight is spam night.
Spammers are tasty.

@maggotbrain You're welcome :)
@GeorgeEdison Welcome to the world of KDE software...

Q: Where can i buy a 4G LTE antenna for HUAWEI E589?

alleni want to buy a 4G LTE antenna for my router HUAWEI E589, Anybody who know where to buy one?

@GeorgeEdison Is that Cyanogenmod or just Jelly Bean?
@FEichinger XD --^

On it :)!

Thanks!
Having more mods is awesome.

Hey anyone here do Android app dev?
I've been asked to make an Android and iOS app :)
FLAG!
PhoneGap FOR THE WIN!

5:40 AM
@maggotbrain Thank you!
(I was away for a few minutes there.)
@Seth Ice Cream Sandwich.
(Android 4.0.4.)
@RolandiXor Funny you should say that.
I just finished installing the Android SDK tonight and tested an app on my phone.

@GeorgeEdison can Qt be used for Android and iOS development?

Yes - but not yet.

@GeorgeEdison funny timing.
@GeorgeEdison cool.

They're planning to have an Android port by the end of 2013.

Oh well I don't have that much time to wait :P
I'm thinking to go with HTML5 for now

5:43 AM
I'm counting on that because 1) developing on Java is like operating a pneumatic drill with your feet while blindfolded 2) it will allow me to reuse lots of existing code.

I'm loving Bootstrap, and HTML 5 seems easy from what I've read.
@GeorgeEdison hahaha

@RolandiXor Let me know how Phonegap works - I've always been curious about using it.

Sure :)
I heard about it before tonight but never checked it out
didn't even know it was open source

Won't you need a Mac though to sign the iOS version?
I don't think you can submit it to the app store without an actual Mac.

I know some Mac owners :)

5:45 AM
<--- is envious.

And some people on the team will be getting Macs (so I've been told)

<--- is really envious.

@GeorgeEdison lolol
Envy me when I get a new phone and a new laptop :D
I'm not sure what phone to get yet, but I'm planning to weigh my options soon

One last question... what about BlackBerry? >:)

Actually, I want to get myself a BB OS 10 phone :)
namely the Z10, but not just yet :)

5:47 AM
One nice thing about BB10 - it supports Qt out of the box as far as I know.

And... you can develop Qt apps for BB OS 10 :D
yep

I haven't had time to install the BB SDK though.

And from what I read yesterday, you can easily target not only phones, but tablets and cars
@GeorgeEdison does it work on Linux?

The last BB SDK didn't.
I'm not sure about this one.

@GeorgeEdison I'll have to check it out

5:48 AM
I have a copy of Windows though >:)
So that won't be a problem.

I wonder if it works on Wine

The simulator sort-of works.

Whoa...
Cool
Wait,
Oh nvm...
I was looking at a torrent and thought my net speed had gone up, but I had the wrong details.

I feel for you - I'm still crawling along at 1.2 Mbps.
My servers have 100 Mbps connections though :)

O_O
We plan to switch to a new ISP, but I have to wait and see when that will happen.
:(
At work, I get like 5 to 6 times this speed
Oh wait, I forgot Synaptic is running an update check.
I can't wait till we switch :)

6:47 AM
@Jorge I've tracked the cause of my global menu woes (I think)
The appmenu packages for gtk applications got removed (don't know why) - so I'm installing them again to see if that fixes it

Q: On-topic? What games can be played by two people on the same computer

Nicolas RaoulI want to know what games can be played by two people on the same computer. The highest-voted for this meta question is: a "best game" one is far too open ended. You'd end up with every game in the archive. Perhaps something more narrow? So, does my question stand a chance of not being clo...

11:39 AM
After what seemed like an hour It just decided to download and install :)

@mojo706 weird - you got a slow connection? Maybe change your download server would help.

how do I change that from terminal?

dunno - I use update-manager to do that.

you use update manager to change the download server? How?

11:52 AM
wouldn't gem use a seperate set of download servers?

I have no idea!

@JourneymanGeek so should I edit rubygems instead?
in my command there is no mention of apt

well, I would guess so
I've never used ruby ;p

:(

so I have no idea. I do think those psudopackagemanagers work differently

jrg
12:00 PM
Rubygems.org is the only true rubygems site, replicated across multiple s3 buckets and zones, so what @mojo needs to do is disable ri and rdoc.
(Rubygems is automagical)
People assume that rubygems is different from pypi (or whatever the python thing is). It is, but only in the type of packages, not in the general structure.

@jrg aren't ri and rdoc important? If not how do I disable ri and rdoc?

jrg
@mojo ri and rdoc are important, but nobody uses them, because they are an archaic format on the same level as forums for programming Q&A.

Thanks @jrg

12:41 PM
@jrg is it unusual not to have .gemrc file?

Oli
@IgnitE I'm UK based so a ping 4:38am is not usually going to get a response.

@Oli ... well maybe not a response that could be broadcast without getting a suspension.

Oli
@fossfreedom Indeed!

we need to instruct the new mods to sleep with their phones hooked upto AU so that they can attend those emergency pings :P

what if it is a 3310 cc. @fossfreedom

12:52 PM
what is a 3310 cc. ?

A phone Nokia 3310

kk... now you are talking to a person who can barely understand texting never mind the intricacies of phone models.

@mojo706 Holy crap! That thing from the stone age?

@OctavianDamiean yes :) it still works
@jrg please reply above tag?

1:06 PM
I think its my connection :( tried gem install and looks like its hung
crap connection today

jrg
1:16 PM
@mojo706 it is not unusual to not have a gemrc

@jrg I dont have one :(

jrg
@mojo706 i have a gemrc, it's basically just that.

ok thanks :)

Q: Server returning not found for www but not no www

slowBearSorry if the title is odd, but it is what it is. My server is returning the correct paths for all of my domains as long as they are not prefixed with www. The following is one of my domains in it's simplest form: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName kyle-o.info ServerAlias www.kyle-o.inf...

Good evening.

@Oli I couldn't find any other mod in the room, so pinged you!

My congratulations for the new Moderators. @jokerdino @LuisAlvarado @RolandiXor

@Anwar Thanks :D

A late one though...

2:39 PM
@Anwar thanks
As a moderator I vote to KILL the annoying sound the chat makes when a message arrives

How are you feeling?

You want to die, get 3 of those in a row
am excellent

You can turn that off Luis.

and jokerdino is awesome

@LuisAlvarado you might have seen my post about that matter

2:40 PM
Top right corner of the page.

@Anwar It's never late :D

found a problem of using a TV as a monitor
everything is so small I could not see that little speaker over at the top lol
thanks @OctavianDamiean

@IgnitE I usually am around at that time but had a private function to attend today.

@jokerdino Thanks... nice to hear that :D

@jokerdino nice job! :P

@jokerdino I'm wondering whether he's on ringtail.

@Anwar It's a mess. I need to protect / lock / delete / nuke from orbit.

i have an unusual unixy (but not specifically ubuntu) question

i agree

2:44 PM
@OctavianDamiean No idea but all aspiring devs have that issue.

@jokerdino Oh really?
fires up qtcreator

@jokerdino can't you protect it now? (i think, you can)

@jokerdino Nope.

does anybody know if there's a company that offers cloud-based VM instances meant for development or personal use, rather than servers?

@OctavianDamiean No, you are not aspiring enough :P

2:45 PM
whut!? :D

jrg
shoot higher!

@Anwar yeah I can. But it doesn't have enough views. Let me see

I was about to ask ..

@OctavianDamiean I dont know. I was trying to say it seems like a common issue.

That's interesting. I don't seem to have it on Quantal. However, Raring is known to be problematic when you use the Qt5-proper PPA.

2:49 PM
Well this just happened to me
but with Ubuntu

A friend 3 days ago, brought me her laptop. I started working on it. It had Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10 so I began doing some cleaning on Windows 7, updated her 10.10 to 12.10 and installed many apps she would need
updated her BIOS firmware
even did some cleaning on the laptop so it would look shiny

@OctavianDamiean Is this a dupe of the other one?

well I literally spend about 12 hours on it
guess what I was suppose to do....
copy 2 movies from my PC to hers
lol

Wait, possibly related? :D

Q: Qt Creator won't recognize any Qt version

Octavian DamieanI've just installed Qt Creator from the Ubuntu Software Center. When I try to open any project other than a Qt Quick project I get following error message: No valid qt versions found. Please add a qt version in Tools/Options or via the maintenance tool of the SDK. In Tools → Options → Qt...

thaha yea it really is! :D
Just looks completely different now with Qt5.
Not sure if those two question above are related to each other though, I mean on can't find any profile at all.

2:55 PM
I am so far from qt. I seek your knowledge and wisdom on this!

Edited his answer a bit according to the OP's question in the comment to it.

wow - that's fast - someone has already ported ubuntu touch to the galaxy S3!

Holy! Just heard a Czech electro swing song on Spotify, that was sick. :D
@fossfreedom It's the CDMA version though!

still - I'm massively impressed.

There are more ports incoming. wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices#Work_in_progress
I'm trying to get everyone attempting a port to add himself to that list. :)

3:01 PM
@smartboyhw - wow - you really working on a port?
good on you :)

You know, this path seems very odd.
> /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/qtcreator/plugins/QtProject/libProjectExplorer.so

I am not too sure about the error message formatting. Please look into that.

I'm more referring to the path itself, it shouldn't for it there.

it is kinda odd yep

Now that I'm looking into it, I can't find where Qt5 installed itself into either. whut?
enters Inspector Gadget mode
Files! You won't hide from me.

Oli
3:09 PM
@IgnitE Fair enough :)

He probably should have mass pinged all the mods.
AU mods: I needs your helpz!!!1

huh, the path should be right actually ...
Yup.
Oh dude! I think know why he's got that problem. At least I have suspicion.
Requirements
Ubuntu 12.10 – get Ubuntu ›
Qt 5 and the Ubuntu QML toolkit – get Qt5 and the Ubuntu toolkit ›
Code editor (Qt Creator recommended) – install Qt Creator ›

Hm, looks good.

If you click straight on the last link it installs qtcreator from the repos.
I'm not quite sure if that's the same version as the one in the PPA, or whether there is a newer version inthe PPA, gotta check.
Looks like.
Yup, if he's installed the repo's version it is at 2.5.2, the PPA version, the one I have is 2.6.82.
Man, I'm pumped ... I don't even know why. Sleep deprivation isn't supposed to do that, right?

3:28 PM
@OctavianDamiean Definitely not. I am too sleepy to do that much detective work.

Then it is this crazy electro swing I'm listening to. :D

Haha

huh, just discovered dpkg-query, fancy new tool in my toolkit. :)

@jokerdino How do you mass ping? :P

Tag all of them individually :P
I am so darn tired. I am off.
So you?

3:47 PM
@jokerdino So I'll tag you as soon as you go :P

Oli
@jokerdino Only works in TL :)

@IgnitE Bad..
@Oli Weren't you working on a similar-ish bot? ;)

Oli
@jokerdino Not that I remember (I may have been!) but it was probably George

bot?
A StackExchagne chat bot?

appears

Oli
3:50 PM
@OctavianDamiean In the Teachers' Lounge (a chat room for all the mods) there is a function for mass-pinging an entire site's mods

@Oli Yeah, it was George's flackbot.

@IgnitE Use the old pyscript

I dont know if you were working on a bot but I was just joking.

@Oli Oh. I see.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo‌ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

3:51 PM
Anyway, if you guys want a chat bot. SO Chat Bot

@AmithKK: which script?!

We can somehow get a bot to ping all the mods but it is abuse-y

I accidentally deleted a partition containing all my customscripts

@OctavianDamiean looks so pretty. let me see

@OctavianDamiean Nice!

3:53 PM
@AmithKK Backup :P

ok i am going off. nights.

@IgnitE Didn't have one
Good Night @jokerdino

We're in the process of converting the bot into a daemon.
Zirak's been stuck a bit because Node.js doesn't really support working with Cookies. I'm planning to port it over to Python.

@OctavianDamiean Yays!
