@GeorgeEdison and switch your default font to Comic Sans MS?

Yeah.
Hmm... I can get a simple Win32 app to compile and run. Something in the Qt framework is messing things up.

Q: The procedure entry point __gxx_personality_sj0 could not be located in...

George EdisonI have managed to (somehow) cross-compile Qt5 with the Mingw-w64 Project's compiler for 32-bit Windows. All of the libraries have been installed to ~/i686-w64-mingw32. I have a CMake-based Qt project that I am trying to cross-compile. By following these instructions, I have been able to get the ...

Let's hope I can get that straightened out.
I'm nearly sick over how much time I've wasted on this.

@GeorgeEdison Try running it in Wine.

Hiya. Looking to discuss my question #256081 on askubuntu. Goals 1) Enhance the question without upsetting or frustrating askubuntu team. 2) Not breaking launchpad or upsetting other developers 3) Understanding what I did and/or how to fix it. 4) Clear answer per 1 & 3 for others.

@LantzR #256081 is an answer, not a question.
Which you don't seem to have participated in.

oops 256091
Bad start ...

@LantzR you can c&p an URL here, which makes it easier for us to find it.

Q: Who is ubuntu-etherpad and why did they take ownership of my ppa?

LantzRI created a project in bazaar: bzr init cups-pdf-zel gedit notebook.txt (and some notes) bzr add . bzr commit -m 'Update Notes' I then pushed it once to the my ppa junk folder: bzr push {lp:~/+junk/cup-pdf} This worked great, aside from the typo I made typing cup-pdf instead of cups-pdf. I...

@LantzR Why do you think it's upsetting anyone? There are no downvotes, and I see no negative-looking comments.

7:16 AM
in fact it's quite upvoted.

Note My First Posted question. SHould I keep enhancing the question as I figure out details of what happened?
Just unsure of when I should add comments versus changing the details of the question.
I can see that launchpad thinks I am two humans. I believe that is why it moved the ppa. In hindsight I could have taken better notes ...

You have 4 options here: 1) in case the answers are incomplete add details to the question 2) in case you solved the issue write and accept your own answer 3) in case everything canged entirely to make existing answer off topic, ask again. 4) accept an answer.

@LantzR: editing a question to add more information tends to be fine

But be careful that the existing answers are still valid.

editing it so its a substancially different question isn't ;p

7:22 AM
ok cool. Option 1 in that I am figuring out more details ... I do not have it all figured out

I was going to come to that

@LantzR Think of making this a generally valid good Q & A on that topic in the long run.

Hi @AmithKK

Takkat That is a goal. Finding an original question (at least for me) is very hard.

7:23 AM
@LantzR that's why everybody can edit everything, including answers.
(or at least suggest edits)
Comments should all be included somewhere in a Q or in an A when they became important. They should be deleted as soon as they are no longer needed.

This was one of those "now that is interesting" situations that is NOT discussed in any support doc re launchpad, bazarr or dev info I can find. I do not care that I mucked up. BUT I do not want to upset AskUbuntu or other Developers while I/we figure out the answer

@mods merge these accounts

@AmithKK: Apparently mods don't do that any more :/

Actually Takkat you have to have enough point first to even comment.

@LantzR I don't see anything bad in this - nobody seems to be upset. We are here to discuss, solve issues, clarify things.

@LantzR yeah - but it's better for the site (reduces comment clutter considerably) ;)

Mechanical snailChat supports oneboxing for Launchpad bugs for projects other than Ubuntu. For example, linking to https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/889421 shows the bug description. My touchpad stops working immediately after I login
it works when Ubuntu Boots up but after I enter my password it stops working
please help :(
I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 now

@mojo706 if it works in the guest session there may be some bad user settings.

let me try using guest

<-- hates touchpads because of his clumsy fingers

@Takkat Good point. I've also had a touchpad become non-responsive if I touch it during the boot process only to start working again if I disable and enable it with the hardware button.

more reason to hate them :P

10:22 AM
ok Im on guest and it works
:(
when I try the hardware button it still doesnt work

Don't ask me now where these settings are... I have no idea, and can't check this here.

In the first link I gave you it says open dconf-editor to check in /org/gnome/settings-daemon/peripherals/touchpad/ for the key "touchpad-enabled".
...and this may also be worth trying: "System Settings > Mouse and Touchpad > Touchpad in section General uncheck 'Disable touchpad while typing'. Restart".

ok I am trying this
unfortunately I have no org folder
or I dont know where it is

10:49 AM
@mojo706 do you have dconf-editor opened?

http://askubuntu.com/questions/68176/touchpad-problem-shortly-after-login-it-stops-working - this might be the case for this Q&A. It's 11.10 but still may work (I have not so much experience with touchpads, so I cant say)
synclient TouchpadOff=0 has a comment to have worked in 12.04.

replace unity just because touchpad doesn't work

But if its your settings it will restart with your bad settings too.

you see :( I know it must be settings. And touchpad was working yesterday

@mojo706 you on 12.04? - this looks like a kernel issue. 12.04.2 has just been released - you could installed the 3.5 kernel and X-stack to see if this fixes the issue.

I have updated to 12.0.4.2 maybe thats what caused the problem in the first place
and what Kernel precisely
I have .38

uname -r - what is the full output

3.2.0-38-generic
oh how do I upgrade to 3.5?

you are running on the standard stack - the new kernel and X-stack is an optional install - look at the hardware enablement stack in this wiki.ubuntu.com/PrecisePangolin/ReleaseNotes/UbuntuDesktop
... backup your ubuntu first!

12:22 PM
:( now edge scrolling doesnt work
@fossfreedom I have gcc 4.7 when I upgrade will it overwrite it back to 4.6?

dunno - that is why I said backup first

ok have you upgraded yet?

yes
youtube now works in fullscreen - I'm happy.

in tty it says I have 12.04.2
so I am only upgrading the Kernel?
btw I never noticed that youtube doesn't work in full screen mode

as per the release note - 3.5 kernel is enabled by default on new 12.04.2 installs. upgraders remain on the 3.2 kernel. You have the option to upgrade. You upgrade both the kernel and graphics as per the release note.

12:29 PM
how come I remained on the old kernel then?

is this a new install as per yesterday, or just an upgrade?

just an upgrade

my previous comment then applies to you.

I am upgrading now to Ubuntu Kernel 35

backup first!

12:35 PM
this is a test machine I have deja dup back up

deja dup is just for data. You should use something like clonezilla to do an image backup.

image back up? I dont have that!
:( internet very slow

1:43 PM
Hi All!!
I have run out of the limit for the day for review queue, can any one clear those queue's. Thanks!

It doesn't work that way. The limit is there to prevent people from racing through the queue. You can only review 20 every day.

I didn't know someone could do that
@jokerdino more like 20/week

VRU
I am sorry guys .. my BAD language

o.O

VRU
I am done with my day limit
and I see the queue still long way

1:49 PM
@jokerdino I only answered 9 and wham! no more questions in queue

VRU
okay!

@mojo706 You don't answer from the queue. You review the quality actually.

"long way" ... That's adorable. We had, what, 400 posts in the queue a couple weeks back?

I know I only reviewed 9

VRU
@jokerdino still we can comment, right?

1:50 PM
thats what I'm trying to say
or maybe I lost count

@VRU You don't have to use the review queue to review.

VRU
"we had 400" its past, no chance now a days
@FEichinger why?

@VRU You can post comments and improve the site without using the review queue. Post comments, edit posts, vote - nothing stopping you from that.
And, in fact, the more you do it outside the review queue, the less posts end up needing improvement through the review queue to begin with.

VRU
@FEichinger well said but fetching old posts made by new comers can only be reviewed through these queue's
its like filtered search

There is much you can do. Even - and especially - old posts.
Not to mention that old posts don't show up in the review queue anymore.

VRU
2:02 PM
@FEichinger yeah very true, using review queue we are just able to enrich the quality of question/answer for better visibility but yes, there are a lot of questions waiting for answers and some more for clean up activity.

2:13 PM
Has the autocommenting script broken for anyone else?

Depends on what you mean by "broken"?

I click the "auto" button and nothing pops up

@JorgeCastro works here.

@JorgeCastro Huh, weird. That works for me.

@mojo706 i didn't, it just worked.

That's kinda annoying when you have a habit of switching it off when using a mouse.

i've never had an issue

"extra dependency?" works.
"extra dependency" doesn't.

huh...

"xtra dependency?" doesn't work either.

I'd call that a bug, but... well you know.

FEichingerInspired by this question on Meta.AU, we found out that the search engine does have the "match this" exact syntax: However ... "extra dependency" returns no results, "extra dependency?" returns the correct result, and "xtra dependency?" fails again. So, apparently the syntax only matches full ...

I understand. Sorry to ask but since I don't actually get out much from my country.. or state.. or city, then I tend to ask anybody how is life in their country in every aspect, but mostly human aspect.

7:21 PM
Oh, I get that. Basically, Germany is a pretty social place ... And, while politics are just as ridiculous as anywhere else, this country is reasonable.

yeah politics is more or less the same, what counts is how people interact, behave and share with each other, which is for me like the #1 reason to move/live somewhere else since a simple "Hi friend" in another country is very positive to an outsider.

Well, Germany shows much more hospitality than you'll find in most parts of the world.
Mainly because the whole country is scared into massive political correctness, buuuut yeh, it's pretty comfy here.

That's what I want to hear. In Venezuela for example, you will most likely get a lot of people to help you in any need because well, we are like that.
@FEichinger got any pictures of your surroundings, like a mountain, beach, something to see how Germany is like

Nothing, really. I'm not much of a holiday person, so I'm usually either in the city, or commuting from one city to the other ... Not much that I take photos of there.

hey well, what can you do
same here, but I can not lie that I enjoy seeing other places, at least in pictures.

i want to hack it to work on linux, i mean, it's freakin' puppet.
shouldn't be difficult to make it work, but they won't accept it.
it'd basically be a true fork of it. :(

@GeorgeEdison ,

8:13 PM
the let you vote for yourself?

jrg
they do.

@mateo_salta yes but that is still dumb. I voted for the rest.

jrg
and if you aren't voting for yourself, then you have to seriously ask yourself why you are running.

@mateo_salta would not be somewhat morally acceptable to vote for one self. At least for me.

I won't reveal my votes, but I did not vote for myself (I never do).

jrg
8:15 PM
@LuisAlvarado that's what all the politicians do, you obviously aren't cut out to be one. ;)

@jrg if I'm not voting for myself it means that the choice is truly made by others and not me.

is it a weighted vote, i.e so many 2nd votes are better than 1 1st vote

jrg
@mateo_salta more details on the STV system are on meta.
i think the answer is "yes", but it's also "no".

@jrg If I get elected is because the community did that. Not because I helped with that 1%. I feel is not politically correct. Just my idea of how the voting process should work. Emphasis on "should work".

jrg
@LuisAlvarado right, i understand that, was just joshin. ;)

jrg
@LuisAlvarado rofl

@jrg hey dude nice article, going to read it.

jrg
that one is pretty comprehensive on how we count votes.

so if there were 300 people voting alltogether, you would need 75 votes, once your first choice is voted for enough the vote would then go the the second choice, so essentially one vote that gets passed on, that is a neat system.

8:30 PM
Ok I understood both answer but I really have to say that, Because of the iterations for each removed candidate and not using a point system for each 3 votes (Assuming the first vote gets more points, the second one has less and third has even less), the overall calculations can be simplified by using a more understandable way of verifying the votes (quota as they mention it there) and not iterate and sum the values up to the already existing participants.
C++ FTW, just made a small somewhat working program that runs that code. I see what they did there. Well, at the end it works but I feel the whole process could be simplified to a point that when explained to a school student they can understand it.
NVM Just saw they are using the Meek method lol. I don't think it can simpler than that lol

8:45 PM
@jrg will that help me get a new gcc?

jrg
9:04 PM
@mateo_salta i wish. :(

@guntbert No

@Takkat thought so, thx

@guntbert But it is supported at Unix.SE (and also on the Linux Mint forums). So you may want to refer people there (in a comment).

@EliahKagan thx for the reminder, I shamelessly copied from Uri Herrera in my comment
