Q: Various crashes in 12.04 after upgrade and fresh install

stefanUbuntu drives me crazy. Since I upgraded from 11.10 64-bit to 12.04 Ubuntu crashes regularly. One time the crash report tells me that Skype is the faulty app, another time it was Opera, and today the crash report tells me Xorg crashes. I read that it can be caused by a faulty upgrade so I made a...

Q: Problem with installing Ubuntu 12.04 dual boot with Windows 7

Cássio AmaryOk, I´m new to Ubuntu, and have been trying it out using WUBI, but now I´ve decided to install it on a dual boot configuration alongside my already existing Windows 7 installation. So here´s my problem: I have 3 HDD's, Windows 7 being installed on sda, with sdb and sdc only for storage. So I go ...

In this post the OP had doubts about installing Ubuntu. There was very users ready to help, but he didn't care very much the maintenance of the site so, he let the post die..

@Lucio What do you recommend? Its still a little too new for TL

The problem is that the question has really poor format, the answer to it is information because actually there is not a problem, and the user is no longer a user, active user..

okay...
I'll look at it again.
well, looks like the OP is done.
So I VTC'd it.

@Seth exactly
@Seth I don't have enough rep :(
thanks

@Lucio flag it as "Too Localized"

4:22 AM
ok

that's what you do for abandoned questions.
There is a flag equivalent for every type of close vote ;)

sorry, but the flag system is not working properly

OK, you aren't the only one seeing this ;)

this last days has been improved almost constantly

yeah, I think they hit a bug.
I made a meta post about a similar issue:

Q: Flag/Close menu won't open after interface update

SethI noticed today we got a new interface for closing/flagging. Almost immediately after getting it though, both the close vote and flag menus won't load anymore. The little black dots just go on forever. Example from random question: Example from the close vote queue: I see this o...

I click and see a new button, then I click again and see a new window.. o.O

looks like a big bug o_O

@Seth Do you have openID account?

@Lucio yeah, I got it with my SE account.

and you are logged in SO right now? Because I can't login there with my openID (site bug?)

@Lucio I'll check.
@Lucio I can login to SO just fine.
I had issues for a little while though.

Q: Chat redirecting to A51?

jcolebrandMay be a problem on my end, but chat.SE of all sites (SO, MSE, SE) is pushing me to Area51. Can anyone confirm? (hard to check in chat when you can't get in chat) Additional notes: While the hotlist still works fine inbox notifications seem to also be not working properly.

4:31 AM
I will wait till tomorrow :(
but you may notice the above status-completed on the post?
you should respond with: you may notice my bug? Everything went down and chat redirected to Area 51!!!
haha

@Lucio yeah, I'm just saying, there were issues.
you might have leftovers of those issues.

yeah, like a month ago I had problems with the js server (the most common)
but can't flag, That is a bug!

Yes, I agree.
Might want to make a new meta post on that.
Hello @Mechanicalsnail
Can you try flagging something for us?

@Seth I wish to do that, but I can't even login there :)

@Lucio oh, I see.

4:37 AM
@Seth @Mechanicalsnail Please :-)

I couldn't login a little while ago too. But I can now...

Oh, let me see..

@Seth The dialog is glitchy.
First it disappeared when I selected duplicate.

Okay, that's what I thought.
other people are getting this too.
@Mechanicalsnail I didn't know you were a mod. Congrats :)

@Seth I will update my firefox version, hope it help. See you later..
Thanks for your time ;)

Same thing seems to happen on other sites too.

Q: Flag interface insta-closes

FEichingerOkay, a seemingly very simple problem: I go to any question anywhere on the network. I try to flag it. The first dialogue opens just fine: Then, when I select the "it doesn't belong here, or it is a duplicate" option, it loads for a moment, then closes. When I try again, I can select the opt...

Apparently one of the API servers is down

oh, excellent.

@Seth burns :)

see ya :)

@Mechanicalsnail Ohai, I see you linked my post, fellow person who can't flag.

KlausCommon problem! For solutions see: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1724209 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udev/+bug/753853 Good luck Klaus

The launchpad link that is provided there is gone. What can be done?

That's why we recommend adding the most important points to the post itself.

I think that the question can be marked as Duplicated for this one

There is not much we can do. We can try to edit the post to include instructions as on the forum link, and remove the launchpad link.
But that doesn't mean we magically have changed a now-outdated answer into a correct one - we don't know what helped, and we don't know what is actually needed.
Since the question was a bug, though, it can be closed as OT and assumed that the bug has been resolved - since its report has been removed entirely even.

@FEichinger I can't understand you. Do you mean the dupe?

No, still talking about the one with the launchpad link :D

10:31 PM
oh

The thing is, both of those questions are answered, as far as the system is concerned.

@FEichinger Yeah, that is right, but one have pure link, nothing of content.

To be honest, trying to close or dupe-mark them is not really worth the hassle - especially since they appear to be related to a bug and about a now unsupported version. As I said, we can try to improve that answer by removing the launchpad link and getting the gist from the ubuntuforums link, but that's about it.

@FEichinger Have you reviewed the ubuntuforums link?

Yep. It does seem to contain a working solution for it.

10:36 PM
The solution there was a link to an Ask Ubuntu Question. So I think that could be useful to point the first one as a dupe.
At lest will be useful for future users. Or maybe I'm wrong..

Well, there seem to be multiple solutions to it, so there might be entirely different reasons for it.

@FEichinger agree

The link back to AU, for example, was posted on ubuntuforums after the answer to the first question was posted.
This was before this

yep

@jrg ping! Mind reading through this as well? :/

10:41 PM
@FEichinger Do you think that removing the link without show nothing in the answer is ok?

I'd replace it with something like "There also was a bug report on launchpad, whcih has since been removed."

@FEichinger ok

evanismthe answer here provided the correct fix: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1724209

this have to be Deleted!!

It's obsolete, at least, so it can be deleted. And it's rather low-quality.

And the link is in the previous answer.

That's why I said it's obsolete. Both answers give the same link, one of them is (going to be) more elaborate. :D

10:45 PM
Great. So it wont be marked as dupe, right?

I wouldn't, at least.

ok
I create a note comment about it..
@FEichinger If anything, tell me.. Thanks!!
