@percusse: Yes. It works. You did it. Will you update the answer please.

@HarishKumar Will do in a sec.
@HarishKumar But does it work with long tables like 500 entries?

12:13 AM
@percusse: I checked it up to 230 entries. It worked. More testing going on. But struck up in incorporating the code inside a \pgfplotstableset{... . I want to save the data \namespgf for further sorting and hence remove lines having N/A while saving. But struck.

@HarishKumar You might want to use \pgfplotstablesave to a file or something like that to finalize the table.

@percusse: I am using it. But the trouble is it saves the lines with N/A also.

@HarishKumar It's because the column seperators become whitespace and the white space between the surname and name confuses the second reading.
@HarishKumar when saving you should save it again with comma seperated version to read it later properly.

@percusse: I got it. I saved it first, then read it and then sorted. It works. Thanks percusse. Have you updated the answer? I want to give a bounty. (You have to tell me how though).
@percusse: Pl. ypdate the answer. I will be back in 10 minutes.

@HarishKumar No need. I'm glad that it works. It's updated now.

12:59 AM
@percusse: Thanks percusse. I started a bounty. It seems I have to wait for 23 hours. This bounty is for your kindness to others. Thanks again freind.

@HarishKumar My pleasure. Hope it serves you well. It's already rewarding to hear that it's working anyway.

@percusse: So humble you are. That shows the greatness of you. Bye for now. and good night. (Hope it is night for you.)

@HarishKumar Indeed it is, maybe I should go to bed too :) Good night!

@MarcoDaniel, @StefanKottwitz: The idea I had was to create an app which would help people configure biblatex. I thought of a wizard-like app, with questions in the form "Do you want to ommit the ISBN, if any?", or "Which backend will you use?", or "Check the fields you want to clear".

7 hours later…
9:35 AM
@JosephWright Thanks.
@PauloCereda The idea is great. Is it based on Java?

9:53 AM
@MarcoDaniel Probably. :) I might give C + QT a try too. :)

@PauloCereda or lua?

@MarcoDaniel I don't know about the GUI part. Probably via TK?

it would be a good point to start

Indeed.

@PauloCereda Maybe I can use my lua book the first time.

9:58 AM
@MarcoDaniel I have even the app name! :)

@PauloCereda And?

@MarcoDaniel It's a secret. :P

@PauloCereda :-)
is it a bird?

@MarcoDaniel Heavens no, I'm scared of birds now. :)
I thought of calling it Ente, but this will be another app. :P

@PauloCereda LOL

10:02 AM
@MarcoDaniel: OK, I'll tell the name. :) Since biblatex/biber is a very powerful combination, I thought of something to confer immortality. So the name probably will be ambrosia. :)
Second option: Ente. :P

@PauloCereda Epic name.

@MarcoDaniel Let's see if I can come up with a code. :)

@PauloCereda Do you have structure?

@MarcoDaniel I need to think of the questions I'm gonna ask first. :) My plan is to follow the options in the biblatex manual, then at the end of the wizard, a biblatex header with package inclusion (with the proper options) and other commands (e.g, \AtEveryBibitem) will be generated. :)

@PauloCereda Interesting idea

10:38 AM
@Paulo very good idea!
I read all, but could not write as it was impossible to login - browser issue

@StefanKottwitz Thanks, Stefan. :) Let's see if I can write something. :)
@StefanKottwitz You were using Internet Explorer, isn't it? :P

Safari
Now chrome
Never had probs with firefox

Yay! :)
I'll be a Safari user soon. :)

Good luck :)

10:41 AM
We will miss you

I'll survive. I might use lynx for the rescue. :)
@Stefan: now I have a new toy: i.stack.imgur.com/CyLHq.jpg :)

I liked lynx too - when I remember crowded university computer pools, queues of waiting people - monochrome text terminals were always available

@PauloCereda But you can use firefox or chrome too ;-)

(text terminals crowded by MUD players though ;)

@PauloCereda That's a great idea. But I think a Qtikz type of on-the-fly demosntration of the bib items would be beneficial instead of the wizard. Or maybe combining them even. What I'm concerned is that you have to ask a lot of question before you reach to something.
(If you have used Qtikz by the way otherwise nevermind)

10:47 AM
@MarcoDaniel I know. :) I want to experiment Safari, but of course my beloved Firefox will be there for me. :)
@percusse Wow, great idea! :) I'm still trying to figure out the best way of presenting things. But a "live preview" of the bibliography is surely fantastic, so even if there are a lot of questions, users will know they are going somewhere. :)

@Paulocereda I think the user can plug in 3-4 custom bib items and see if the settings are doing the things they want.
It's not this easy of course but the idea is very nice.

@percusse I like the idea. :)

@PauloCereda As far as I know QtikZ uses QT too and the linux source code is available on the site. hackenberger.at/blog/ktikz-editor-for-the-tikz-language So maybe it can speed up things a little

@percusse I'll take a look. :) The QT SDK just scares me - 2GB! :P

@PauloCereda I don't even know exactly what it does :)

11:00 AM
@percusse Neither do I, yet. :P

11:10 AM
@JosephWright Why? \ensuremath is useful. :)

11:26 AM
@PauloCereda OMG, that must cost the price of a house in Brazil!
@PauloCereda Old Chines Proverb: "Beware of what you wish for, as one day your wish may be granted"

@Brent.Longborough 15 years ago, a used car. :) Ironically, Apple had the best price amongst all hardware companies here (Dell, Lenovo, HP, etc), so I went for the cost / benefit. :P
@Brent.Longborough LOL

@PauloCereda :)

@Brent: sadly Brazil doesn't have top hardware specs. :( Apple was the only one with the specs I wanted for a reasonable price. Dell wanted almost the same price for a lower spec. And since I payed cash, they gave me a huge discount. :)

Q: Should 'how to install package X on Ubuntu' questions be consolidated?

jonThis came up in a discussion of this question. It seems to me that almost all users of Debian-derived OSes have two options when it comes to installing LaTeX packages: (1) using the native sources (including the recent backport in the case of Ubuntu 12.04 [or here]); or (2) installing TL from CT...

@JosephWright Hmm, coffins questions are usually answerable on the Day of Judgement
How's this for simplicity?:
\NewCoffin \stats
\SetVerticalCoffin \stats {\textheight}{%
\centering
\begin{tabular}{etc}
...
\end{tabular}
\captionof{table}{Statistical data, as collected and delivered}
\label{tab:stats}
}
\clearpage
\RotateCoffin \stats {90}
\noindent\TypesetCoffin \stats [t,r](0pt,\onelineskip)

@Brent.Longborough Nice :-) I use coffins a lot for doing alignment: 'just works', for example vertical centring stuff in table cells

Q: TeX logo in the main tex.stackexchange.com disappeared

Garbage CollectorI noticed that the TeX logo in the main site (not the meta site for sure) disappeared. Is it a bug or under construction? Edit: I was using Chrome. After the interview notification link is removed, I can see the logo again as follows:

Anyone with Chrome?

@AndrewStacey so then how likely you are to get that one in this community? So my bet is his first gold will be the yearling

@AndrewStacey Thanks. :) Let's wait for @Werner. :)

@AndrewStacey @PauloCereda: Same here... no problem on Chrome.

@AndrewStacey I take the comment back: yearling only gives silver. so yes. probably fanatic then ... but even that can be difficult... I lost mine when i was at 96

Now I'm tempted to write something about it. :)
Welcome to the Answer the Unanswered session.

@PauloCereda The right approach is to do part of the work within TeX I think. Simply doing \tracingall and analysing the log file would not be enough.

@PauloCereda of course :). Now the question is whether the task is doable or not. Well, of course if we're allowed to modify the engine, it is, but that's probably not a good assumption.
