Ever heard about Mumble, @Zypher? It's FOSS and has much higher quality. Ventrilo has a god awful overlay too. :)

I was told not to

mostly because of my time

which makes sence we have alot of stuff going on that it's better to pay someone to host it for us

Also, I noticed that Mumble uses the Speex audio codec by default, which is also the default for Orange Box based games (and also the one I forced on the HL2DM server)

basically make the sites more awesome is my primary mission :)

@Zypher Yeah, that seems reasonable, wouldn't want to take you away from making sure those damn devs don't bring down the whole system. ;)

I know nothing about complex, multi-server environments.

Well, not NOTHING, but not enough to run one.

one of my friend was banned from voice chatting for like 6 months by his wife after some unfortuante timing/comments/speakers

Which is a shame, because certain games work better with voice chat (Team Fortress games, for example)

For whatever reason, no one I know uses WoW's built-in voice chat, but always a third-party one.

why would I want to use the built in one?

the built in ones generally suuuuck

or broadcast your conversation to at least your team if not the whole server

@Zypher The ones Source games use aren't that bad... but they ARE push to talk.

and you don't know when you join a server if it's restricted to just team or to everyone.

the server i beleive so they are still provisioning it so i havn't been able to get into the control panel yet

now we should put some more effort into organizing the gaming amongst users @badp

yep, so i got a 24 slot server to start, we can upgrade that if needed in the future

that should be more than enough

given how many users joined us on Steam last time

My suggestion @Powerlord would be to have a poll to see which games users have, then based on the most popular ones make lists of those users in a Meta question together with their preferred game times

so pick like 5 multiplayer games, list all users that own it and/or their username, just so we get a better view of what would be possible

Turns out we can only associate a room to a site, not disassociate it, so SE can't be it.

Wouldn't want to scare any of those creepy chat.MSO people off.

Now, MSO sounds like a good fit.

Problem is they wouldn't get any chat advertisement from here.

@CRoss Hi - Thanks for the offer, I think it is best if it stays away from gaming as I don't want it seen as only to do with them (despite whooping ass in game!), It is really for everyone, so possibly just leave it as SU.
