I'm consdiering starting a new stack exchange site: Code Starter SE!
This a SE site for the absolute new beginner, the guys who don't care doing their own homework, or searching for answers related to their problem.
I think this would attract a lot of traffic, the only slight problem I see is that it might be hard to get anyone actually to answer the question on that site.
3

@pacmaninbw Unforunately, sometimes.

But if we had it, we could move quite a lot of traffic from both Stack Overflow and Code Review over to Code Starter... Maybe it should be called "Coding for Dummies"?

@holroy WMCSE (Write My Code Stack Exchange)

@EBrown That is the general idea, yeah.
It wouldn't stay in beta for long due to lack of questions, at least.
And wouldn't it be lovely not to simply close questions, but just move them over there (all the time)?!

3:21 PM
@holroy What about homework?
BTW, had a phone interview with a sort of recruiting company.

@Hosch250 Already included... :-)

She said she thinks I'll get at least a phone interview with the client.

@Hosch250 Sounds promising!

It'd easily become a Help Vampire ground... Something I don't is healthy for any site

Let me know when you get it into beta. I'll flag every question posted.

3:22 PM
That is the main point of the site, to be a Help Vampire ground!
As stated, I do believe getting anyone to actually answer on that site would be a bit though! :-D

Hello. Is there a plan to separate Angular2 or Angular tag from angular.js? These are two different framework and it's very confusing to see questions that are tagged with angular.js but mention Angular 2 in their titles.

Actually, Programmers used to be that.

3:28 PM
@SimonForsberg No surprise there... But wouldn't it be nice to have such a site?!

They spent ages getting it cleaned up, including two renames.

@Duga I think that one is safe.
@IgorSoloydenko Do you have any estimation on how many questions belong under each tag?
@holroy Not really, no.
What would be nice would be if people read other questions - some on-topic ones and some off-topic ones - and understood the scope of the site, before posting.

@SimonForsberg no, I do not. I am fairly new to SE Metas and am not familiar with tools that let me efficiently get this information.
I think all the angular2 questions are marked with the js tag since there's not independent tag, but I may be wrong

@IgorSoloydenko None :) Although a slight estimation would be this

3:31 PM
@IgorSoloydenko Both Angular 1.x and Angular 2 questions should also be tagged with JavaScript.

not necessarily
could be Typescript

Okay, true.

And I meant Angular.js. was lazy to spell it out, sorry

It's an interesting question whether or not Angular tag should be split up. I have a feeling though that eventually, more and more code will be in Angular 2 (or 3 even, whenever that might come)

@SimonForsberg Just to be explicitly clear: I'm not going to apply for such a site, it's kind of a joke, based upon the fact that there are so much garbage around! And all the guys not doing any research would most likely post to such a site, and we could focus on the good questions!

3:34 PM
You might want to ask a question about it on Meta actually. codereview.meta.stackexchange.com

well, to me the question is whether they should be kept together. the frameworks are very different. angular.js code will not work in angular 2

@holroy The problem would be to make the people not doing any research find that site in the first place. Because to find that site, you need to do some research.

Oh well, wishful thinking is what that is...

3:36 PM
@IgorSoloydenko You might want to read the Python tag discussion that we've had also. (About terminating "Python" in favor of "Python 2.x" and "Python 3". There might be some things from that discussion that is relevant to the Angular one.

@rolfl Factorio 0.15.1 experimental release is out.
And I have two ideas for mods for the game, both of which would probably take quite a bit of time.

Yeah, I am 4 hours in to a game already. I am "working from home" today.

So much monking

@rolfl lol. So that's what people do when they're working from home, huh? Suspected something was up with that. I don't have the opportunity to work from home though.
I am 4:26:43 in to a game btw. Just started using robots and blue science.
They certainly have changed quite a bit.

To be honest, I really am working, and have been all morning, but I am home, with a sore back.... and plan on playing "right about now", now that my meetings are done.
I am 4:44:30, apparently, but I am still setting up blue science and oil.
Time to swap my work machine for my game machine, it seems.

4:50 PM
I've played a lot of Bob's mods in 0.14 recently though. 45 hours into a game there. #oops.

I never took to Bob's mods, not sure why. But, here's my confession:

@rolfl Bob's mods gets interesting once you get used to it. It does make things a lot more complicated and makes it much more important to use trains. It does come with a lot of benefits though. Better underground belts, better belts overall, better all kinds of stuff.

Yeah, I modded up with Logistics Train Network, and more advanced "things" like miners, assemblers, armor, etc. Faster robots is a big deal along with "better" solar panels. The full Bob's experience was too much of a change.

@rolfl Holy crap.

Failed to upload image, but.... I got 585 hours.

@rolfl that seems to be one solid game addiction you have there :P

I spent a bunch of time in multiplayer, which I like "cooperative" versions of, as well as a bunch of time on the official "Factorio Challenge" when 0.14 was improving multiplayer support.

And there is me, who hasn't even heard about Factorio!

@Isofruit I'm doing Minesweeper.

I had to look up a youtube video, looks pretty sweet
@Hosch250 Damn, Minesweeper is one addiction I cured myself of a year ago - and which threatens to break out again every time I see a window of it open

@rolfl I've spent some time in Multiplayer, but don't really have anyone to play with at the moment. I've tried some of the scenarios. I really like the Supply scenario but haven't completed past level 10 or so.
@Hosch250 @Isofruit You've played multiplayer version of Minesweeper at any time? Where you have to take the mines before your opponent do so?

@SimonForsberg Saw that one, and can understand some of the fascination. But I my game of choice, nowadays, are Minecraft Pocket Edition.

No.

@SimonForsberg I hadn't even heard of it until you said so, darn

@holroy Factorio is Minecraft with everything automated, pretty much.

@SimonForsberg It kind of reminds me of Civilisation, but with a much stronger automation concept. Do look kind of cool, though, but I also see why you could use a lot of hours on it...

Seems like login with Facebook doesn't work at the moment. Crap.
But login as guest works
@holroy There's always something you have shortage of in Factorio. Either you need more iron ore, more iron plates, more copper, more oil, more labs for research, more factories to build some stuff... it's an endless cycle.

5:11 PM
I can only imagine... Then again, that is the way of the game to keep you occupied. Much the same concept with shortage of resources within Minecraft, also.

@holroy Yeah that's true. Although these days, if I'm playing Minecraft, I'm likely playing modded Minecraft.

I did try a little modded Minecraft a few years back, with the ME system? Was kind of fun, but nowadays it's plain vanilla Pocket Edition (on my ancient iPad 2).

Yeah, I've used the ME system from Applied Energistics 2, but it's not my favorite mod/system.

I kind of like the automation part of it, that it could automine, and autocraft various stuff, and the item transportation it offered. I did however mainly join a friends world, where they had developed it quite a bit.
What is your favorite mod/system, and why? If I might ask.

@holroy It's much more fun to set it up yourself. To start from scratch.

5:26 PM
Yeah, I see that. And similar reasoning is kind of why I enjoy playing vanilla MCPE. You kind of have to find everything, and mine everything, and so on. No easy-peasy mod which does most stuff for you, or removes all the obstacles...

Screw it, my brain is telling me it doesn't have the power to start understanding insertionsort anyway v.v

I would possibly enjoy some simpler mods (or Addons as they are called in Pocket Edition) to have longer pistons, and possibly easier (and reliable) item transportation.

Hmm.. I just got myself a new project, I have dozens of Dropbox backups on my disk, that's like 40 times 15 GB and there's only differences in some sub folders, I should really merge them together:/

@Isofruit Insertion sort is easy. Insert at the correct place, and repeat.
I love heap sorting, and do it all the time in my apartment. Throw stuff in heaps, and magically it's sorted. Supposedly.

@holroy I'm trying to understand an implementation my book is giving me and...they're not making it too easy for me, well, not after what I've learned already anyway. If you're interested here is the code they're giving (I only did some re-formatting to make it actually readable): pastebin.com/B5pfJTT7

5:31 PM
@holroy I've played mainly two modpacks: FTB Infinity and Bevo's Superstitions. I like Logistic Pipes from FTB Infinity. And Ender IO. And RFTools. Auto crafter from RFTools, nomnom. And Bevo's Superstitions had some really nice mods. Inductive Automation and Refined Storage are two of them.

@SimonForsberg Is FTBI the one with Greg tech? Cause that was great!

Refined storage, in any way, sounds nice!
So does auto crafter. To some extent, that is.
@Isofruit Try looking at insertion sort this way: First of assume first element to be sorted. Then loop through all elements, pull out the next element and bubble (aka swap) the element down into the sorted part one element at a time.

@holroy These days in Minecraft, I pretty much can't live without transportation system and a minimap.

@SimonForsberg I can see that. Those does help a lot!

@Peilonrayz I've never used Greg tech so I don't know.

@holroy Refined Storage + Advanced Furnace from Inductive Automation = Really nice. Although the crafter in Refined Storage is actually a bit better than the RFTools one.

Sadly I'm missing good transportation in Pocket Edition. Both for items, and somewhat for myself. (For myself I tend to use tunnels in the Nether, but they take a long time to build. For items the Hopper chains are somewhat unreliable, so no really good alternatives exists)
