9:00 PM
okay.

When you report what you plan to do, and what you've completed, include 'CLEANUP ACTION' at the start of the chat post

I'm planning on going through the co-tag with one question items.
since i don't have full editing privileges, the edits aren't immediately enacted (sorry about that)

Mmm... that does hamper things a bit
But, they'll go into the queues and get taken care of

CLEANUP ACTION: edit suggestion made on and question here
^do I cross out the item on github or no?

Yes
ok
absorption is a horrible tag
I don't know why we have it

9:06 PM
uv/vis would be better?
beer's law?
it fits for now, though

are you going to burninate too?

if you look at the questions that are tagged with absorption, and the usage guidance, you'll see that it is horribly misused
it wasn't designed to apply to questions about absorption of photons...

Ooooh, yeah, it's really ambiguous on that
should be absorbance?

@heather dammit, oh well, no, thats a discussion for another day..

Don't worry about it

9:08 PM
should be uv-vis i guess

is the current project
<nod>
uv-vis, (ft)ir, x-ray, etc.

wait, why don't we have uv-vis?!

same reason we don't have corrosion, I suspect.

aha

Nobody's happened to look squarely at it yet

9:09 PM
we have spectrophotometry

mm
so, uv-vis should be a synonym of that?

should it? I don't know enough about it to say for sure haha

Pretty sure uv-vis is the only context I've heard specphot used in
but it could be fraught with complication

CLEANUP ACTION: edit suggestion made here

see, last time we did TRE, we didn't document every single edit
hmph..

9:12 PM
CLEANUP ACTION: edit suggestion made here
@orthocresol should i not be doing this?

Yeah, that might be too fine-grained
It's a good trial run for the event, no, I think this will be helpful

i mean, there is no harm at all, but it may just be a waste of time

(for you to be doing it now; we may ask you to stop, and report larger units of action at once)

okay
i'll carry on then =)

Sorry, we're kind of figuring this out as we go. :-)

9:14 PM
I think I'll leave the edits to the queue.

not a problem.

Hmm, @ortho, since @heather doesn't have edit privileges, could some people think she might be trying to game edits for rep?

unlikely

would it be worth adding a card for questions needing deletion?

yes, thats a good idea, either that or just mod-flag it

9:15 PM
okay.

There is a card on there for ones with negative votes -- I slid it off to the right
(in the GH Project)

ah ok
yeah, a ton of those are candidates for deletion

Maybe I shouldn't've done that...

maybe put them under there, as stuff that we (mods) may need to look at
"stuff that aren't negatively voted but still suck"

@heather @ortho see revised cards

9:17 PM
there's a column too for reaction questions mods may need to look at already...

@hBy2Py ok, we can just merge
lemme do it

<-- is hands-off

CLEANUP ACTION: edit suggestion made here

@heather, you don't need to always replace the reaction tag with another tag
You can just detag

@hBy2Py, I know, i thought that tag added value - did it not?

9:20 PM
quantum chemistry is where you simulate chemical systems with quantum mechanics
I may have missed something in the question, but I think it didn't belong on that quantum dot one
(quantum dot != quantum chemistry)

if in doubt, just ask somebody what tags to add, thats what we did last time
back when I had no clue what tags we had

okay, i'm sorry - i'll be sure to ask next time i'm unsure.

no problem

I'm still way undereducated about what we have
yeah, don't worry about it

yes, I learn new things every day too

9:21 PM
CLEANUP ACTION: edit suggestion made here and here

Yeah, @heather, don't worry about posting notice for each edit suggestion

@hBy2Py, what sort of notices do you want me to make (if any)?

Just post which set of co-tags you're about to start working on, and then post again when you've finished that set

you can ping me with stuff that needs sealy deletion as well

@hBy2Py um...but that would mean my making the same number of posts at the beginning because all of them in this column are single-question

9:25 PM
hahahah
just do a bunch of them, and then post all once i guess

okay

@heather No, use the titles on the cards

oh
that makes much more sense =)

CLEENUP ACTON Starting 'co-tags with 1 question, Part 2'

@hBy2Py Oh, okay. I finally understand
wait

9:26 PM
time passes

The aim of this is to break it up into chunks so that we can apportion them to people right?
or seals

CLEENUP ACTON Completed 'co-tags with 1 question, Part 2'
I wasn't sure if we would do the apportioning, or if others would just choose the sets themselves

Yup. either way its to allow for...
delegating... work...

In the actual event, having someone coordinate would probably be sensible

Yeah. ok. Now I get it

9:27 PM
aah!

There's bound to be some overlap, though, right?

okay, not really aah.
overreaction of the day
this one's got two questions, not one. huh.

@orthocresol Definitely - that's why I arranged it to start at the co-tags with small numbers of questions

i.e. These columns aren't orthogonal?
Yeah. ok

Naaaah
By the time we get to, e.g., co-tag [organic-chemistry], the actual number of tags in there will be a lot smaller

9:28 PM
wokay, moved it over to the proper column.

@heather Don't do that. :-)

CLEANUP ACTION: completed [reaction] co-tags with 1 question, part 1
@hBy2Py why?

These columns were generated from a query

how did the query put that one in the wrong column then?

the tag information in the database it searches is only updated once a week
All of these assignments were accurate as of 6am EDT, this past Sunday morning

9:30 PM
oh.
it's moved back now.

I was expecting some drift in the tagging, and that people would see just what you saw
it doesn't matter that they end up not quite perfectly filed

@hBy2Py Bear with me, but what happens if (for example) we take off the dft question and replace it with ?
Then we would be reviewing that question twice.

the idea was just to sort them roughly by frequency
See, this is good
:-)

@orthocresol NO, BAD SEAL

@heather, you're helping us debug!

9:31 PM
@pentavalentcarbon silently nukes

ok, I will try and understand what's going on so I can help you guys tonight...have to go home first

What I had planned to do was point people to the query

> Computational chemistry questions are off-topic on Chemistry Stack Exchange. Please see the help centre for more information.

um.

Welp, see ya later! nukes account

9:32 PM
there's a computational chemistry tag @orthocresol
apparently

And have them click the links in the "Posts w/At Least These Tags" search column

It's roughly as useless as

@heather (@ortho was giving @penta a hard time :-)
aaaand, still is

I understand, but is there a way to freeze the query results?

The query autogenerates site search links in that column for cotagged questions, which will always be up to date
Mm, probably?

9:34 PM
Ok, I'm a little lost.

@hBy2Py oh =P

I just edited the project column titles;
see if that makes it less brainwarping

i am now in love with mhchem
i just used it and it's so easy <3

<nod>, it's a great tool
@orthocresol I don't care if the lists on the Project are accurate at the time of the event

hmm...this question is blanking out the edit button for me

9:36 PM
I just wanted a way to break it down into manageable chunks

@heather i think edit may be rate-limited

looks like it

as an anti-vandalism measure

@orthocresol oh...=/

still this was very helpful, @heather

9:36 PM
do you know how long the wait is?

you really helped highlight some glitches in the setup/process

glad to be of help =)

After the event is done, there may well be some random [reaction] questions floating around

51
A: Rate limit suggested edits

Shog9As of a few seconds ago, this limit is now active network-wide: at-most 20 pending suggested edits per editor on beta sites at-most 5 pending suggested edits per editor on graduated sites These limits are based on my analysis of the speed at which edits are generally approved and the number o...

oh, it's based on how many are pending

9:37 PM
that were, e.g., retagged after 29 Mar, or that people re-added the [reaction] tag to, or whatnot

heyo, i can edit again =D

I'm going to have to write up a process and rationale for all this, aren't I.

yep probably

You also have to explain to me how we aren't double-counting questions. Not that I'm challenging you or anything like that, I'm just confused...

We need your new close reason for this one, @ortho
-3
Q: What is the charge of He ion? I have my doubt if gases in group A8 has charge in their ions?

user24942For example in a mixture of $\ce{He}$ and oxygen the charge of oxygen is -2 and if there is not a charge for $\ce{He}$, then how can they mixed together? $\ce{He2O}$ is a good formula for this ionic compound?

@orthocresol Oh, absolutely questions are being double-counted
I don't care

9:39 PM
phew, okay, CLEANUP ACTION: finished reaction/notation questions
so for real finished part 1 =)

THUMBSUP
Better double-counted than under-counted
Once we get to "officially" working on the co-tags, the actual number of remaining questions will be a lot lower

@hBy2Py yep.

@hBy2Py Oh, actually, we will never double-count.
Since we are removing reaction from questions.

@orthocresol Right - these initial numbers sum to way more than the actual number of questions we have to handle

Precisely.

9:42 PM
wait...huh, this is weird

Ok, thanks, I get it now.

Every time someone runs a new site search for the co-tag they're working on, they'll only see the ones that are left

Yep.
@hBy2Py And yeah, I know right...

"edits must be at least 6 characters" (just removed tag) - but I've done this on other posts

@heather There might be some random Unicode or something in the post.
In general circumstances, you'd add the question ID (the number in the URL to the question) to the 'needs mod attention' notecard

9:43 PM
just find something else to touch up on, even if its ridiculously trivial

For now, just paste a link here
Or do what ortho said. :-)

oh, the post was missing some commas that i didn't notice
got those =)

@orthocresol such as adding apostrophes to people's "its"

oh yeah - hasn't updated so there are none in a tag pair =D
free cross-off

@heather Yup, that will probably happen somewhat regularly

9:46 PM
...and hit the wait again.

Ok, I need to get home -- I'll write up an answer tonight to the Spring Cleaning post summarizing the procedures for people to do these edits.

@hBy2Py just edit my answer, I will leave that chunk for you
hint hint
I'm halfway through writing something.
@heather i've approved the edits

@orthocresol, thanks =)
oh, interesting case you might want to look at - tag synonyms
i.e., notation originally had 1 overlap question with reaction
formatting is a synonym of notation, so it showed up on the list

hm, i actually manually approved that synonym very recently
Loong proposed it ages ago

i'm doubtful of one tag i just came across
interesting tag to have.

9:57 PM
think that one is fine

okay
::shrugs::
just not sure i've seen one like that before =)

it's pretty rare
but the most recent HNQ had it

Q: Realistic chemical spill accident in high school chemistry class

TinaIn a story I'm writing, a teenager spills chemicals on herself in a high school chemistry class, causing her to be put under the safety shower. The spill destroys her clothes and causes minor burns. I would like this to be realistic and since I know nothing about chemistry, I have two questions: ...

oh, i did see that one.

@heather Have you been using SEDE, or the native search function?

@orthocresol search, along with the github lists

10:10 PM
okie, great

this 5-pending limit is a tad annoying

10:27 PM
@orthocresol Ok, scratch that, I don't have the energy to finish writing this. @hBy2Py I'll leave it to you.
@heather i've cleared the edits

@orthocresol, thank you - do you just want me to post in here whenever i reach the edit limit?

no, not really, as I will be going off soon

okay.

just count it as enough work for the day :)

=) alright
CLEANUP TASK: completed [reaction] co-tags with 1 question part 2

10:56 PM
CLEANUP TASK: completed [reaction] co-tags with 1 question part 3
is it a bad idea to use the tag, or is that okay?

@heather only if it's really everyday-chemistry
We like to joke that it's crappy, but that's not really because the tag is crappy, it's because newcomers like to put it on their questions when it's not applicable.

thoughts on applying it to this question?
