2:00 PM
Oh wait, the holidays doesn't mean between christmas an new year, does it?
@steelersquirrel If you want that bonus you can do that, don't worry. You can as well pick a time that's more comfortable to you.

@NapoleonWilson The "holidays" are considered the time between Thanksgiving and New Year's. At least at my work :(

@steelersquirrel I see.

@NapoleonWilson Awwww. Well, that time is comfortable to me. I just don't have vacation time left. I need to change my vacation from vacation to bereavement, though. That's why I need to speak with her. If they will give me that, I will still have vacation left. That's what I'm trying to do.
@AnkitSharma I had never heard of it before I saw it, either. I need to get together with your sister :P

So then how could you be "annoyed how everyone else in the frigging world thinks that movie is the best thing ever" when watching it the first time? ;-P

Well, I wasn't annoyed about it then ;)

2:10 PM
I see.

Awwww. I'm not seriously annoyed about that movie. I just like playing with you ;)

I know.
> No bounce, no play!

Bounce! Bounce! Bounce!
Play! Play! Play!
I am a treasure trove of squirrel pics now :P

If you downvote a question and then upvote after it's been edited, do you get your +2 back?

2:21 PM
@steelersquirrel Yes.

@steelersquirrel +1, and yes.

Wait, what do you mean?
You don't lose rep for downvoting questions.
And you only lose 1 rep for downvoting an answer.

Oh, indeed.

You lose 2 rep for being downvoted.
In any case, though, the answer is yes: when a vote is reversed, all rep loss associated with it is also reversed.

Oh, you only lose 1 for downvoting? I thought it was 2.

2:25 PM
@steelersquirrel The other guy loses 2.

Rokay :)
@Randal'Thor You don't lose rep for downvoting questions?

@steelersquirrel Nope.

@Randal'Thor Just answers?

You even get the -1 back when an answer you downvoted gets deleted.

Why only for answers?
Shows how much I downvote ;)

2:27 PM
Here's a puzzle for you movie people:
0
Q: Rebus: Guess this movie

AeJeyAnother Simple Rebus. Guess this movie name

@steelersquirrel From the early days of SO. Because people wouldn't downvote bullshit questions enough.

Hmmm...okay.

@steelersquirrel To discourage people from downvoting answers for stupid reasons? The great strength of the SE system is in providing expert answers to reasonable questions, and if people were downvoting answers all the time just because they didn't like them or whatever, it would reduce the value of a great answer.

I don't get it, just tell me the solution.

@Randal'Thor Are all of the imiges combined one movie?

2:29 PM
@NapoleonWilson I don't know the solution - you'd have to ask AeJey or wait till it's solved.
@steelersquirrel I think so.

Meh.
I already fail to understand the first image, let alone all the others.

@NapoleonWilson Well, if you understood it right away, there'd be no challenge!

Yeah, I guess.
The only think I can make sense of could be the last one. Which simply seems to refer to Arabia.

Initial velocity has got to be "u", so there's probably a "use" in the title.

STOP MAKING COMMENTS ON MY QUESTION THAT DON'T MEAN ANYTHING!! ;-( jumps out window

2:32 PM
From that alone I would guess Lawrence of Arabia, but that's probably wrong. ;-)
@Randal'Thor I don't get that sentence.

comments should be answers. Answers should be comments in this case ;-(

@NapoleonWilson I think the second and third images have solutions U and SE respectively.

I don't get what #9 is supposed to be.

I don't know what that Initial Velocity image is even supposed to show.
@steelersquirrel Me neither.

Is that supposed to be a continent? If it is, I don't recognize it.

2:36 PM
@steelersquirrel nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo‌oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Where on earth do you get that U from? That image is bollocks, it shows thingies on cricles with thingies between them, and has "Initial Velocity" written above it. Is that some British in-joke?
@steelersquirrel It's the country India.
But the 9 doesn't make sense.

Oh shit! Sorry, Ankit! Haha! Oh, God.

continent......India.....what did I missed

@NapoleonWilson Isn't velocity refered to as u in equations?

@DrRDizzle What?
You mean v, for velocity?

2:38 PM
@NapoleonWilson I thought v referred to something else.
It should be noted at this point that I failed A-level physics.

@NapoleonWilson Doesn't u always refer to initial velocity?

So the actual image has absolutely no bearing on the matter then?

@NapoleonWilson v is current velocity; u is initial velocity.

ohhh soem random quiz

Uhuh.
I thought v_0 would be initial velocity.
Englishpeople.

Q: Rebus: Guess this movie

AeJeyAnother Simple Rebus. Guess this movie name

bleh

Still that would mean the actual image doesn't matter at all, which seems strange.

@NapoleonWilson True.
I've seen stranger red herrings though.

I know this one!

Q: Do the Avengers have bad radio discipline?

MajaiiI have been thinking about the communication between team members in the Avengers movies, primarily when they talk over their team radio net. It seems like they have very little radio discipline in the fact that it always seems like they are using each others names. This seems dangerous as their ...

Though My A's formatting's not great, it's a bit rushed

holy shit, walt is god

Why am I not surprised that Walt knows this? :P

@Walt Upvoted!
It's just like a movie-ID question in a different packaging.

I would upvote, but I can't :(

2:43 PM
I knew a riddle! Yippee

Makes total sense that you would be the one to solve it.

All hail the god.........!!!!! — Ankit Sharma 17 secs ago
@steelersquirrel why?

@AnkitSharma Because I am not a member of that community.

You can upvote, just join the site, u will get associated bonus of 100 and you will be eligible to vote

@steelersquirrel There's a "join this community" button at the top ...
You were the one who convinced me to join M&TV; now I can convince you to join PSE! :-)

2:45 PM
I thought that we weren't supposed to join a community solely to upvote people...

Walt can ID Indian films too and now he knows hindi too......wow

@steelersquirrel I think I joined puzzles because someone once posted a movie quiz there and I participated. I do like riddles, but the ones there are either way too hard or solved too quickly ;)

@steelersquirrel I suspect most people join most SE sites (other than their first) in order to upvote a particularly good post.

Yep. It's confirmed. Walt is Skynet.
2

Hell, that's why I joined Puzzling, back in the day.

2:47 PM
@Randal'Thor I didn't done that. Maybe because I have account in almost all of them ;D

@steelersquirrel If I were, you'd think I'd know how to break lines in spoiler mode. :/ Does anyone know?

Okay, then. Joined and upvoted :)

@Walt Put a double space at the end of each line.

I joined puzzling because I was so bored I once wrote a riddle.

@Walt I'm used to be impressed by your prowesses on Movies SE, but now you came to impress us here! — IAmInPLS 3 mins ago

2:51 PM
This is all too puzzling. Muahahahahaha!!!

@Randal'Thor Ah, so you need to mark each line as a spoiler. Thanks. Better?

my edit got rejected :(

@steelersquirrel Well, noone said you should upvote Walt, but you said you like his answer.

@AnkitSharma I redid it.

nice
thanks

2:53 PM
@Walt Nice!

@Randal'Thor I doubt that. Spoiler blocks are famous for breaking normal markdown.

@Himarm hello o/ wassup

@NapoleonWilson I'm pretty experienced with spoiler blocks - I know how they work by this time :-)

@Randal'Thor Cool symbol! It looks like pi with a mullet. :P

So that was really just the initial velocity? Yeah, I call bollocks. But I'm glad you got it answered.

2:54 PM
And probably HNQ too, if the voting keeps on the way it's going.

I'm so excited I got one. Let's see if I can solve something else! <main page> aaaaand it's all solved. Smart people, hmmf. :/

@NapoleonWilson Well, that's the only reason why I joined, so, why wouldn't I? ;)

@Walt lol

@steelersquirrel I just meant you're not supposed to upvote people. But noone said you can't join to upvote a great question or answer.

What's with the red color on the Indian map? — Techidiot 13 mins ago
uff everyone have orange/saffron vs red confusion

2:57 PM
@AnkitSharma saw you pinging me in here again lol

@NapoleonWilson OMG. I'm so confused. <sigh>

@Walt Some are only partially solved. Know anything about historical German ciphers?

@AnkitSharma Yeah, we know, as explained by two comments.

Ha. @Randal'Thor commented on my riddle on Puzzling.SE, which may well be our first interaction?

@Himarm I was saying how you tricked me into Reddit secret Santa stuff

2:58 PM
@DrRDizzle Linky?

presents are worth it

Not everyone has one, but other than this you're probably right! [\pedant] — rand al'thor Dec 4 '14 at 16:20

@Randal'Thor Dude, Napoleon is right here

Hehehe!

@steelersquirrel He means you should upvote a post based on it's quality rather then the guy who posted it. So if u see good post in other site, joining it to upvote is fine

3:00 PM
@DrRDizzle Oh, way back in 2014? That must have been our first interaction then.

Well, Walt's answer was great...that's why I upvoted it.

@Himarm lets see, mine is coming from US. So it might never come or mayeb take months. but I am sure mine will reach as I ordered form Amazon.com

@Randal'Thor Late 2014. When did you join SciFi?

@Walt @Napoleon, any idea what kind of cipher, used by the Germans in one of the world wars, might be hinted at by the word "subchief"?

See. This is why I wasn't going to join in the first place. Argh! ;-(

3:01 PM
@steelersquirrel I know, it was just a response to your earlier statement.

@DrRDizzle In August 2014, but I only became really active there in 2015.

@DrRDizzle And it rhymes! Nice. Seems Hobbit-like

@steelersquirrel Which is fine, of course.

@steelersquirrel valid point to upvote

@Walt Oh, it's a terrible riddle that was answered in minutes.

3:01 PM
@Randal'Thor No.

But it's my riddle, and I like it.

You people are giving me a headache ;)

@DrRDizzle It's a great riddle, and I upvoted it all the way back then.
@steelersquirrel The only thing people are talking about is the difference between voting for a post and voting for the person who made that post.

@Randal'Thor Well, thanks. But the fact it was solved so dang quick makes me think otherwise.

You upvoted Walt's answer because it's a great answer - all well and good.

3:03 PM
@Himarm What are you doing over here? Did you come over here to talk about voter recounts? ;)

If you'd upvoted it just because Walt is a great guy, not so good.
@DrRDizzle Lots of riddles are solved dang quick over there. My record is something like ... 20 seconds?

@Randal'Thor I barely know what that is. I'm guessing it's not like a sous chef.

@Randal'Thor Holy moly.

Nope. I voted because Walt is Skynet and I want to stay on his good side ;)

@DrRDizzle copyright strike

3:04 PM
@Randal'Thor That can't be it :P

@AnkitSharma It's mine now.

@steelersquirrel ankit tagged me like 12 hours ago

@steelersquirrel taht can be considered valid point to survive the extinction

Hehehe!

@DrRDizzle I misremembered; it was more like 40 seconds: data.stackexchange.com/puzzling/query/79305/…
My 15-second record is on SFF.

3:05 PM
@Himarm It's over now, you can join the existing topic or can start new one. WE don't flag pokemon images here ;)

@steelersquirrel You're safe, Skynet's a big giant mess these days

@Walt Hahaha! Sooooo true!

@Walt I thought it was a cool new Apple OS now.

@steelersquirrel I'm convinced they were so proud of T3 and disappointed by the reviews, they made 4 solely so T3 would look like a masterpiece by comparison

Mine is 132 second, maybe because I take a minute just to see what else can I edit in question itself ;D
@NapoleonWilson no it's more of Samsung galaxy note 7 bomb now

3:08 PM
At least my closing-record should be below 30 seoncds.

Anyway, ping me if they have any more M&TV related riddles ;)
Ta for now, everyone (food break)

Bye Walt :)
Oh my. It's going to be an interesting drive to work this morning. Lots of snow!

@steelersquirrel Oh, drive safely then!

@NapoleonWilson Of course. I don't mind driving in the snow...it's other people that I worry about :(
I will be sleeping at work by the end of the week. We are supposed to get freezing rain and stuff on Thursday :'(
@AnkitSharma Are you saying that Himarm can talk about recounts from the Presidential election? ;)

3:17 PM
@Randal'Thor That's still pretty impressive.

@steelersquirrel What? You mean you won't drive home from work?
@steelersquirrel Preferably not.

@NapoleonWilson Probably not. It's too dangerous when it's freezing rain.

@NapoleonWilson Would he be able to if it were the other way around and recounts were happening if Hilary was elected?

@steelersquirrel I don't know. In general it doesn't seem to be a topic from which good things come, especially considering the users.
If you feel, however, that it can be constructively discussed, then feel free to start the topic.

3:22 PM
I was just joking, anyways.

Considering the "users"? Pfft! Thanks a lot. Gheez.

@steelersquirrel I wasn't talking about you.
Himarm in all honors, but the nature of his political discussions is not something the SE moderators haven't broadly noticed. Nothing against him, that's just how it is.

Poor Himarm :(

@steelersquirrel Have fun and be careful (and don't get too annoyed by the people who do drive carefully) ;-)

@NapoleonWilson Hehehe! Will do. If you don't hear from me by 12pm PST, I am a patient at work instead of an employee ;)

@steelersquirrel Yeah, I'd be super mad sad if you had yet another accident. :'(

@NapoleonWilson Awww. I'm just playing. Trust me, I wouldn't even tell you if that happened, because I know that you would be mad :'(

Awww, I would first and foremost be worried. So you would just play along for weeks pretending to have a normal life while being in the hospital, eh?

3:34 PM
Er, I don't know. I'm the worst liar in the world. I'm sure that my story would hold up for about 30 seconds before you figured me out ;)

You have to prepare. Get yourself some street and car noises on tape for the occasional "shopping trip". And practice simulating signal loss when you're "at your dad's".

Oh, God. That's far too much work. I would fess up way before I would go through all of that trouble. Wow. I wouldn't even think about background noises and stuff. How impressive! ;)
Oh, God. It's really coming down! I gotta go!

cdeYes, as you provide evidence of, they have terrible radio discipline. Trigger discipline too. Seems that SWEGMC=ALDEST somehow, but I'm bad with codes :/

@steelersquirrel This is my bread and butter :-)
@Walt It's probably some standard cipher relating to 3 and 7 somehow.

@Randal'Thor That's why you and Walt are far smarter than I ;)

@Randal'Thor Well, standard to you maybe. ;) I can only solve the most basic substitution ciphers
But thanks for the ping :)

@Walt There's a nice list of standard ciphers here, if you're interested.
And sorry for pinging only after posting an answer :-)

@Randal'Thor That's OK, I happened to see it anyway
@Randal'Thor Thanks. I think I've been there before, because of Kryptos or something

5:03 PM
@steelersquirrel Well, to his defense, the new reworked answer is quite a bit better.
Even though he still doesn't quite explain it that well, but I know what he wants to say and he does say it in his answer to some degree.
At least I retracted my downvote for now.

@NapoleonWilson Oh, I didn't even notice his new edit.

Wow, almost 100% answered. That's... devotion

I would have added a source explaining the symptoms of that type of poisoning...but, what do I know ;)

@Walt Heh, just realised it's simpler than we thought to get from SWEGMC to ALDEST. Just look at those 6 words beginning with capital letters :-)

@steelersquirrel Well, I don't think he actually says that the poison caused her to jump from the balcony.

5:08 PM
@Randal'Thor Ohhh, right. Whoops.
So why triad and septuplets?

All he says is that the cops can't help but have to assume she was killed somehow simply because foul play was already involved in the poisoned pills and since they don't know if she jumped or was thrown, they have to assume that where one attempted murder is, there might be more.

(If only 'last' suffices?)

@Walt Not sure. I'll ask the OP.

@NapoleonWilson No, but he's saying that it clouded her judgment. Which, I don't even think they would be in her system if they knew the pills were laced with poison. They would still be undigested in her stomach.

(I assume the clue was 'last', anyway)

5:10 PM
He might not express that too well in his answer, but I'm pretty sure that's what he says and it makes sense. Of course it would be stupid to assume the poison caused the suicide, but they just can't treat it as suicide when they already know she was poisoned too.
Someone getting stabbed in the back and then running in front of a car isn't treated as a car accident victim either.

(because 'right' seems to be the direction)

in The Sphinx's Lair, 44 secs ago, by Techidiot
@Randal'Thor - Triad were the first three letters. "FIN" Next 7 on the bottom "NALDEST"

@steelersquirrel Well, that would be appropriate, considering he was frozen for a good while.

@steelersquirrel Yeah, that's the part I don't like about the answer so much either. The point isn't that the poison clouded her judgement, rather than that it might and noone knows any better. In fact Dixie could as well have thrown her off the balcony. All they know is someone tried to kill her and minutes later she died.

@Randal'Thor Er, OK. Not sure I get it. ;) Won't it repeat the N?

5:13 PM
@steelersquirrel Which I think is what he was alluding to with that term. Just that it's Captain America who's the popsicle.

@Walt Yeah, that was my reaction too. shrug Blame the OP, I guess :-)

Yeah, but, that didn't cause her death. Blunt force trauma did. Nobody would even know if that poison would have been fatal in the first place...that's just Grasping at straws, I guess.
@NapoleonWilson Oh, I didn't even know what @Catija was talking about, I just like the word "Popsicle" :P

@steelersquirrel But what then is the approrpiate term? Murder by suicide? Accidentally murdered? Murder avoided by suicide?
They have to assume it's a murder investigation at least.

@NapoleonWilson I don't know!! That's why I asked the frigging question!!! ;)

@steelersquirrel I think the "capsicle" was a portmanteau of "Captain" (as in Captain America) and "icicle" (or Popsicle). :P

5:16 PM
@Randal'Thor <users> Wow, I guess you really like that SE! I had no idea. Well done.

@steelersquirrel I know. I was just trying to make you understand the reasoning behind his answer.

Stop making everything so complicated, Napoleon!! :P

@Walt You could say I'm the Walt of Puzzling ;-)

@Catija Well, now that I know that you guys were talking about Captain America, it makes sense now ;)

@steelersquirrel I'm just trying to explain that answer to you. You asked that question.

5:17 PM
@Randal'Thor That's harsh. I would never say that to you! :P

@Randal'Thor Ohhhhh...that's a bold statement, sir! ;)

I never even wondered about this in 5,000 viewings of that film.

f'' seems all mysterioso. No info, no pic

Secretly I prefer Napoleon's version:
Sep 15 at 19:38, by Napoleon Wilson
@Randal'Thor Sure, the Nelson Mandela of Puzzling. ;-)

And I'm still glad you chose the non-sarcastic interpretation of that statement. ;-)

5:20 PM
@NapoleonWilson Really? I always wondered that. Especially since she's so effed up when she jumps. In the original script, she's dropping plants off of the balcony trying to hit different colored cars with them.

@steelersquirrel Oh, heh! I might do that as an non-drug-addict.

@NapoleonWilson Hehehehe! That would be awesome! I would love to see you get in a fight! ;)

@NapoleonWilson Sheesh. Loogies, maybe :O

Water balloons!
Man, I miss Letterman!

@steelersquirrel I dunno, water's so ubiquitous. Loogies give it that personal touch

5:25 PM
Did you see the episode when Letterman tossed like a million super balls off the roof @Walt? That was awesome!

@steelersquirrel I think I saw that in a commercial

I could never "hock" a loogie. I was never that talented.
@Walt Aren't you an avid Letterman fan? Maybe I am thinking of someone else.

@steelersquirrel As if I'd ever. I'm all talk ;)

What on earth is a "loogie" and what is a "hock"?

@steelersquirrel Not really. I was more of a Conan fan back then
@steelerfan Found that commercial:

5:29 PM
Oh, Conan is boss, I like how he crushes his enemies, sees them driven before him and hears the lamentation of their women.

@NapoleonWilson Conjuring up spit and snot up through your throat and launching it as far as you can ;). We Americans call it "hocking a loogie". Kinda what Jack teaches Rose to do in Titanic.

I see.

A J
I now kinda like Napoleon in getting plot-explanation badge.

@steelersquirrel I really should see that movie one of these days

@Walt Spoier alert: The ship sinks :P
@NapoleonWilson I am far too much of a lady to attempt such a feat ;)

5:34 PM
@steelersquirrel That's OK, I got the gist from this review. Tragic romance, a rapping dog, same diff.

@steelersquirrel Y...eah. Of course you are.

@NapoleonWilson Hehehehe! I have always thought that kind of stuff was disgusting. Just like kids picking their nose. It completely grosses me out.
@Walt Hahahaha!!!

Ooh, someone delete that previous link, here's a much prettier one in HD:

@steelersquirrel Understandably. Don't worry, I wouldn't ever do that (among other people) either.

@NapoleonWilson I see. So, you just hock loogies and pick your nose in private, then? I get it ;)

5:40 PM
@steelersquirrel Even Brinquedo never stooped to this level

@steelersquirrel Well, I'm a man, there's probably millions of things you don't want to know I'm doing.

The one where he dumps them off of the roof is way more awesome!
@NapoleonWilson Oh, God. You're probably right. I really don't want to know ;)

@steelersquirrel This one?
They seems like bowling balls. Or really huge ornaments
(2:30)
Nevermind, they shattered. Ornaments it is

@Walt Oh, he dropped lots of stuff off of his roof! It was awesome!

Dropping stuff is always cool!

5:47 PM
@steelersquirrel Hopefully not by popular demand, otherwise Shaffer might've been next

@Walt Hehehe!

@steelersquirrel Then again, I think Canadians bounce. Or maybe it's just Ike Broflovski

@Walt I'm not sure she knows who that is.

Well...squirrels bounce!!!!

5:54 PM
Hihihiahaha!

@NapoleonWilson You're right. I have zero clue who that is ;)
Sometimes Walt's references fly over my head due to the fact that I am just not too intelligent :P

How can something look so cute and cool at the same time? Oh, I know how, because squirrelawesomazingness!

Hehehe!

@steelersquirrel I just told a silly joke about South Park, intelligence has nothing to do with it ;)

@steelersquirrel Don't worry, you don't really have to be too intelligent to watch South Park. ;-)

5:57 PM
Squirrelawesomazingness is my new favorite word!!

@NapoleonWilson I wrote it faster :P

Kinda like how I rarely get any Simpsons references ;)

@steelersquirrel Good, because that's you.

@steelersquirrel Well, South Park's nice but Simpsons 1-8 is great. You should really check it out

@Walt I'm sure that I will have no choice, but to check it out :P

5:59 PM
@steelersquirrel Squirrels get to have all the fun

I am being summoned by my boss. Be back later :)

@steelersquirrel After the Sopranos, though. And Fawlty Towers... OK, I'll just make you a list ;)

@steelersquirrel Have fun!
I'll be going home, too. And then work on my A Walk Among the Tombstones answer.
Gheez, stop flagging all that Portuguese stuff. I don't speak that language!

@steelersquirrel Oh yeah, a boss... that guy that's probably looking over my shoulder right now. :/ I should probably be off too

GarhooginEver since Trump won office, I've noticed that the Fox News logo has stopped spinning. The banner with the time zones still rotates, but the big blue one that says "Fox News" doesn't spin anymore. Is there a specific reason for this?
