After reading the recently added paragraph, I feel I should downvote this question. (Since I deeply disagree with it.) But maybe it would made the impression that I am just "looking for a fight" and that I am abusing my "internet power". So probably the best thing to do for me is simply to ignore this question. — Martin Sleziak 11 mins ago
@MartinSleziak ignore, downvote, it's up to you. what do you object to, exactly, if you don't mind sharing? that someone would depict high-rep users in general this way? there are good high-rep users, there are bad high-rep users -- that's something we all know. is your issue that i'm painting too much of a caricature? — dbliss 9 mins ago
@dbliss There are several issues I have with the post. One thing is that is painting all users which care about maintenance of this site with the same brush. And some things in your post seem to be misrepresenting of what really happened. What does "ostensibly recruited" mean? Your post makes it sound as if it was closed for lack of context, but in fact the close reason was unclear what you are asking. — Martin Sleziak 6 mins ago
@MartinSleziak that's a fair criticism. i'm going to remove that paragraph, because i don't want controversy surrounding it to distract from the question-specific issues here. — dbliss 5 mins ago
@MartinSleziak did you read the title of my question? i honestly don't know how you came to the conclusion that i was arguing it was closed for lack of context. removing "ostensibly recruited" -- i'm not wedded to it. — dbliss 5 mins ago
@dbliss Fair point. But since you stressed that much that the post is detailed, it seemed as if context was an important matter. (And I have really overlooked that the close reason is mentioned in the title.) — Martin Sleziak 2 mins ago
@MartinSleziak ah, yeah, i can see how you'd make that interpretation. — dbliss 1 min ago
@dbliss I have a feeling that our exchange above is more about the way your question is phrased rather than the issue at hand. Long exchanges in comments main distract other users from the discussed topic. So I suggest that we either drop it (and agree to disagree) or that we continue this in chat. — Martin Sleziak 11 secs ago

yeah, i just deleted a bunch of my comments for that reason.

I should say that in twenty minutes I will have to be elsewhere in 20 minutes.

but i'm confused: we disagree?
yeah, i don't want to stay here long either.
oh, about whether high-rep users can be annoying?
yeah, i mean, i was just venting

Main thing is that you seem to indicate that the users do this out of malice, because of they were angry at you.

that's the only thing that makes sense to me.
they seem to have gotten annoyed that i was editing a lot
and then decided to put my question on hold as a result.

7:14 AM
Is there a possibility that they indeed voted to close, because they think the question should be closed.

why would they not have mentioned anything in the question being unclear?
this is a more general complaint i have: why would you silently close-vote something.
this gives the OP no reason.

BTW you say that you defended your edits as substantial. I do not see any comments on the questions you linked. Were there some comments and they have been deleted?

i have no idea what their problem with my question is.
the comments are there. they said, "you're editing too much." and i said, "my edits are substantive."
that was the entirety of it.

@dbliss I will deleted some of my comments comments, too. I will leave the last one linking to this chat, since some relevant things might be said here.
I will also leave the one about recently added paragraph.

okey doke.
that paragraph has been removed, but, yeah, if you want people to know it used to be there, that's fine.
i've been working on that question for the last two days, and i have gotten zero comments or questions about the math in it.

7:18 AM
@dbliss I do not think any comments when I look at this question:

Q: Using $V(t\rightarrow T^-)=1$ to solve for $T$

dblissProblem Statement I have $V$ defined as follows: $$ \frac{dV}{dt} = -V + I(t) + I_0, $$ where $I(t)$ is defined as $$ I(t)=\tilde{K}e^{-t/\tau_0}, \hspace{1cm}0 \leq t<T, $$ with $$ \tilde{K}=\frac{K}{1 - e^{-T/\tau_0}}. $$ For all $t'=t+xT$ (where $x$ is any positive integer, and $0\leq t <...

one of the high-rep users wiped them

You meant to say the comments were there rather that they are there.

they were there as of two minutes ago
i'm sure someone saw my meta post and wiped them

@dbliss The reason I wanted to leave it there is that several of the users who voted to close I user who I deeply respect and who did a lot of good work for this site. This is what I know about them from my past interactions with them.
So I did not like that paragraph.

that's fair
i totally get that

7:21 AM
But you're right, it is probably better to remove the comment. The post might cause enough controversy as it is, even without making people looking into the revision history.
So I am deleting that one too.
In any case, if someone wants to see our exchange in comments, they are still left here in chat.

yeah
well, this discussion has been positive. thanks for restoring some of my faith in the people of SE.
unless you have more you want to say, i'll let you get on to more important matters.

@dbliss The question why to close vote "silently" , without explanation might be for longer discussion.
But if the close reason makes a sufficient explanation why the question was closed, maybe no other comments are necessary.
(This is just a general remark, I am not claiming this is the case of your post.)
Maybe we can leave it there @dbliss I feel like I wrote here all my objections to your post on meta.
And it seems that they are mainly objections to the tone of the post - it seems more like a - rather than to the content.

yeah, i gotcha.
but my own experience seems to indicate that in many cases some justification for the close-vote is needed.
i try to comment whenever i have an issue with a post -- rather than downvote or close-vote.
i close-vote only after i'm satisfied that the user is unwilling to make a needed change -- even after the need for it has been expressed to him.

Commenting when you see some issues is a reasonable thing to do.

word.
at the end of the day, though, as long as my question doesn't get deleted (in which case i'll lose all that work) i don't really care whether it's down-voted or closed or whatever else.
thankfully, there is a limit to the power of users who don't like what i've done.
but, anyway, have a good night!

7:31 AM
ok I will have to leave now
Good luck with your question and you math.SE activities!
If you feel like leaving some other comments here, feel free to do so. I will see it when I come back.
@dbliss Even if the question is deleted, you can still see it (since it is your post). Just save the link somewhere.
(In this case it is linked in the post on meta.)
And there is even a possibility that you will persuade some users to undelete it.
But we are not that far yet.
You will see what comes out form the discusison on your post on meta.
Maybe some users will think that your post should be reopened and they will vote to reopen. Maybe not.

i made the edits you recommended, but that just reminded me of another reason i kept those details in there: if it is the case that i made a typo while working through those rearrangements, it is now impossible for a visitor to my question to tell. in order to know how i messed up, they really do need to work through everything on their own (which it's almost a guarantee no one will do -- the hoops i've jumped through to gain acceptance from people who have no interest in working on this problem anyway . . .). — dbliss 2 hours ago
@dbliss You can add to your post (or to in a comment) something like this: "Since the post was getting too long, I have removed detailed computations (based on this recommendation on meta.) If somebody wants to see them you can check revision history, in particular this revision."
I have put link to the last revision before it was closed. You should choose which revision you would like to show somebody - assuming there will be somebody wanting to see detailed computations.

10:48 AM
I see that your question has been reopened. Probably better use of our time than meta discussions would be trying to solve that question. However, I will probably not be of much help there, since this is not an area I now much about. (To be more precise, I know nothing about neural networks. But maybe for this problem it is not needed - maybe knowing differential equations would be enough. But do not know much about them either.)

i've been working on that question for the last two days, and i have gotten zero comments or questions about the math in it.
This is a separate problem. There are many questions problem here. Some of them will not receive much attention.
Especially if the question is very long and anybody attempting to answer would have to spend a long time going through that post.
You can find some advice on meta - but nothing of that is guaranteed to work.

Q: How to grab users' attention on an old question?

user1131662Unfortunately, I haven't figured out whether this question is appropriate here. So I'm sorry if it is not. But nevertheless, here it is. For example, I have a question. A problem, or maybe a piece of homework. As long as I am concerned, people here prefer to give small hints, instead of giving u...

Q: How to bring an answer to attention?

HunterI've recently asked a question. After a day I thought I found an answer to my question, though I wasn't sure. Therefore, I posted it as an answer in the hope that I would get feedback from the community whether it was correct or not. But I don't think many people have seen my answer. What is the ...

Q: Legitimate methods for attracting attention to an old unansweed question

Trevor RichardsI asked a complex analysis question here that got a number of views but no comments or answers. I am aware that some questions just do not attract the interest of the SE community, but I feel that this one probably should, since it has to do with a very basic and interesting property of analytic...

It seems that one of the problems why your question was badly received was incremental editing and repeated bumping.
You yourself stated, that it was on purpose:
@ArthurFischer yeah, fair enough. to be honest, i was using this question as somewhat of an experiment: i was using math.se the way i would use github, as a way to "publicly develop" the process of getting from math question to math solution. personally i think this idea is worth exploring some more, but apparently it is very unpopular with certain "question-queue patrollers." — dbliss 6 hours ago
@JohnMa i feel like i'm starting to repeat myself a bit, but yeah, i didn't put that stuff in in order to be clear. i posted the question (the "problem statement") -- which is quite clear -- and then started working on it -- literally, all my work was done in the edit box. i was experimenting with "open math" in the spirit of "open computing" on github. but i see now that this causes more confusion than anything else. (and it invites accusations of "bumping" to try to get to the top of the queue, which, really, i don't care about.) — dbliss 5 hours ago
Maybe such approach to questions would deserve separate discussion on meta.
I searched a bit whether there are some older discussions about this.
This one seems marginally related:

Q: How much (self) editing is too much?

Willie Wong(N.B. not to be confused with this question) We are all aware of editing being a core value of the part-Wiki nature of the Stack Exchange websites. We are also all aware of the website providing a system of check-and-balances for edits, as a way to prevent and counteract intentional vandalism ...

Maybe you will have better luck in finding something. The tags and seem like a reasonable places where to look.
And maybe also their combination.
