4:03 PM
I need a C# teacher

pfft you need JESUS

Who doesn't? :P

DOn't worry I'll be easy but I really need a C# teacher

user4704
What is your actual question?

@Lokkij me ;)

4:05 PM
wait, those are video tutorials

user4704
I hate video tutorials :(

@Almo Okay I don't need him either, but I would like to meet him.

:D

@JoshPetrie Can you teach me some things about using C#'s Web From Applications?

user4704
Ask an actual question.

4:07 PM
C# is suppose to be more speffic on what you want to do with it but I want to do some web stuff :)

user4704
I wouldn't say that "C# is more specific on what you want to do with it." That... doesn't make much sense.

@JoshPetrie You are trying to give me a headache are you?

user4704
No, I am trying to get you to ask an actual question about what you want help with.

user4704
Have you, for example, tried searching for "C# web forms tutorials?"

@PsychOPhobiA No, we just want to know what your question is so we can help.

user4704

Microsoft really should just bring frontpage back and integrate it

@MickLH WebMatrix bro

SQL won't aloow me to use

Also Expression Web (if that's still alive)
And SharePoint Designer lol

It wont me use SQL or data design thing which people complain about

user4704
4:12 PM
Well that's not very clear.

user4704
What does "won't let me use" mean? What did you try, what did you see, what error message showed up? Et cetera.

woah wtf, why do I need a DVD drive lol
but yeah, thanks @SpartanDonut, I'm glad the code is still alive, they need to integrate it into VS :P
I'd literally switch back over that

Haha. In all honestly WebMatrix is pretty decent for light weight web dev. Anything more than that and you do want to go to VS.
It's a nice all in one tool where you could use Razor kind of in the same manner as you would with PHP and hook stuff up to a SQL CE database
I wouldn't wish SharePoint designer upon my worst enemies though.

It might be completely nostalgia, but I just remember FrontPage being the best experience I ever had making HTML.

Can't tell if trolling... lol

4:17 PM
If I could use that, but also double click on a button and start writing C# for it like it were forms designer, I'd really just go ahead and use that

I've honestly not used any modern web form designers... I wonder if any progress has been made in that front
In SharePoint Designer 2013 they actually removed the design view, which is sad because I always used it to quickly jump me to the appropriate position in code.
Where I would write some sexy XSLT
I'm afraid to ask... anyone else ever use XSLT? It's interesting.

lol is that like XACT?

Not at all lol
"EXtensible Stylesheet Language"
In my use case it was for transforming XML data into stylized HTML
It was pretty cool because it was like writing HTML as if HTML had programming logic to it. You could manipulate strings, conditionally choose which data to show and how to style it, etc.

can't say I've ever used that

MLM
4:27 PM
Unite 2014 Keynote livesteam: youtube.com/watch?v=5RZBxGexCuk

@AttackingHobo can I has mesh and lightmaps?

@MLM Meh... send me the cliffnotes :P

@SpartanDonut dude so much win, that's the seed for a nice piece of rhetoric

@MickLH hmm?

@MickLH ikr?

4:29 PM
it's not easy though lol, maybe something about the key to not falling off the cliff being...

Just glanced at the feed and had to giggle at "two singletons referencing each other is crashing unity"
clicks and hopes for dramas

Less drama than hoped

@MickLH what?

@AttackingHobo Of your scene!

4:31 PM
@MickLH you want the blend file?

Can you explain what Main () is in C#?

Sure, but I don't have cycles, I was hoping for the lightmap too
@PsychOPhobiA entry point
Take note! The key to climbing the cliff is to take cliff's notes of the keynote. In all keynotes.

@MickLH I didn't bake any lightmaps

but you can

4:32 PM
hehe I understand if it's too much work

Just download blender?

@AttackingHobo oh does it come built in?

@AttackingHobo You have blender!!!??

4:32 PM
cool, I thought I would have to install it myself

@PsychOPhobiA yup

This chat has suddenly gotten out of control. Time for lunch

Awesome!!!!!!! I have it too!!!

Made this last night to test out lighting a room with natural lighting.

Well for almost 5 months of using it but still

4:33 PM
@AttackingHobo I'd say mission accomplished.

Nice!!!!
Wish i could show you mines but um some people in here think i am a show off

I wish people just were born with in-depth knowledge of psychology
Why can't people just get it?

@AttackingHobo looks very calm.

@PsychOPhobiA no one cares, just post em.

@AttackingHobo I have blender 2.71 now so I have even attempted to create anything yet. Lot of work on my hands

4:36 PM
@BlueBug yeah, it has a peaceful feel

Valve knows why
Valve has studied this, that's why they use orange and blue lights to create comfort and tension in their games

^ ?
Oh... How you know
?

Because I read everything I can get my hands on

You know I have been hearing that for Science fiction games, they have to add blue as if it is a very attractive color like mAss Effects games

And I've got a nice cache of files from Valve that I straight up should not have, but I think they actually did a public PDF about that one

@PsychOPhobiA I think I have been using blender off and on for 8 years

@AttackingHobo Oh your more Experienced
I needed a experienced blender teacher :)
Too darn expensive!
@AttackingHobo I tried to create a blender game multiple times and then finaly achieved my goal but ran into a few problems

> For example in Half Life 2 pale blue lights to create a cold feeling in the combine citadel. Warm yellow lights to create a comfortable feeling inside the Black Mesa East. Half Life 2 uses this as a practice...

@MickLH I never really understood thatg until now
Thanks Mick :)
Colors can make things feel different can they?

4:42 PM
Entirely

lol are you serious? color is directly a feeling

Of course they can

color is one of the very few things you actually feel
(as opposed to the common usage of "I feel" which actually just means "I think")

So if I was playing halo and walked into a room lit with red light would that mean something bad?

4:44 PM
No, it would just feel like a room with a red light
Which kinda does feel bad to me, but it just is what it is.

user4704
Color -- lighting and environment -- can evoke an emotional response, in the right situation. It's a bit of a fluffy science though.

When you see a flashing red light what do you think?

user4704
"Blue" is often considered a "reassuring, safe" color for example.

I'd say it's some kind of alert - depends on the context though
(red)

@Noctrine If I seen a flashing red light, I would run the opposite direction because I know it would be scary to know whats there. Man I feel so scared I'd pass out.

4:48 PM
I've found blue does make me feel reassured, and sometimes safe depending on the shade, but also has a somewhat uncomfortable, professional, almost sterile vibe to it. but again that's just my perceptions
wow that was the longest lag I've ever experienced on this chat

What do you mean by sterile vibe.

vibe = dem feelz; // very objective

blue is often considered a "cold" color @MickLH so you're definitely not alone with that

Yeah "red" would be considered a hot color right?

yup, orange as well

4:50 PM
Blue feels good but red is feels bad

light of a certain color can also hide things making for cool riddles

Okay this color talk is scarying me
I feel the chills....

@PsychOPhobiA By sterile, I mean something like that emotional pressure you get when a robot holds you

so no need to leave the chat because it's already in your head!

4:53 PM
That feeling like there's no empathy to be found for miles
Combined with an eerie silence

or techy sounds
like a beep from time to time

yeah that's nice, some subtle whirring too
maybe even a resampled dot matrix printer, slowed down by a few times and equalized to have very little bass again

Never let a robot hold you

@PsychOPhobiA Never say never, oops I said never, oops I said never, oops I said never, oops I said nev- divide by zero

Yay programmer art!
Did my best.
It's made using a mask and a base texture, so it might still look at bit funky.

4:56 PM
Especially the robotic sounds they make when they are chasing you or moving around. And if those robots had eyes that are red I'd run faster than fast
@William'MindWorX'Mariager What you use to do that nice art you have there

@William'MindWorX'Mariager I think it looks nice? lol I have to see it with more stuff going on

Photoshop. But it's mostly pixel art, so anything that allows you to work on pixels.
With transparency to make the masks.

MS Paint works fine for pixel art :P

MS paint isn't really a good graphic art solutions these days is it?

4:59 PM
Visual studio has a nice editor for pixel art as well. It's simple, much like MS Paint, but also supports transparency.

I'd love to see a giant, handmade pixel art portrait of someone
If I had one, I'd hang it up in my house lol
Pixel art from the days that would have been if the old days leaked into the future a little more
Like some 18-bit pixel art

How about a screenshot from any indiana jones game?

I think I'm satisfied with the rock edges for now. Also made one for smooth wall edges. Should be enough for now.

@Christoph doesn't quite feel right! doesn't feel hand drawn

From the survey Josh posted - "Average # of Employers in the Past 5 Years: 4" - yeeeesh

5:03 PM
@MickLH ah right I forgot about the handmade aspect. but you could use one as a template and redraw it on graph paper on some free days
or years

hahaha

Fudge

56% of game developers say "We need a union"

good point, brb devoting life to creating 16 megapixel pixel art portrait

@SpartanDonut that's where I'm at too, but I guess it's surprising that it's the average
given I'm still in college

5:05 PM
Can GIMP create mega pixel Pictures?

Your mom can create mega pixels

i have 6 employers last 5 years. 5 if you count grip/autodesk as same since autodesk bought grip while I was there
though it looks like I'll be at this one for quite some time

@MickLH What did you say about my mom!?

5:06 PM
@PsychOPhobiA megapixel, one word. it means 1 million pixels. and yes, that's just a 1k x 1k picture, probably smaller than your monitor.

@Almo yay

:)

Super smash with rift looks pretty awesome
How cool would it be to play a fighting game with an AR headset

@AttackingHobo not cool lol

Epic
And boring

5:07 PM
@SpartanDonut huh? No like you could see the characters on a table top in front of you

In that case maybe

@AttackingHobo Thats kinda crazy dude

Hmmmm. I wonder if you could put a mirror sphere on the table, then composite that out, but use the pixels from that to light the virtual things in the real scene?

Still tempted to get a Rift.... might wait one more revision...
There was a Kotaku article the other day that almost pushed me over the edge

I need to get a rift soon too :/ just to continue development on my renderer

5:10 PM
@MickLH why do you NEED a rift for making progress on your renderer?

:/ because I don't want to work hard but I'm running low on cash again
@AttackingHobo because my favorite feature of my renderer has nothing to do with lighting or texturing

What part?

I'm more focused on providing a satisfying input handling feel, and preventing motion sickness

Oh ok, yeah that you would need a rift for.

So far it works on both goals, every single time I've had humans test it, every gamer without exception has said "wow this is smooth" or something equivalent, And nobody has gotten motion sickness when panning left and right quickly, but I've only had one person who's verified to get motion sickness

Joe
5:13 PM
@SpartanDonut is it more affordable now for the dev kits?

I think they're like $300
Or something...

Joe
yea crap thats dropped ALOT

$350 actually

Joe
werent they 2k?

5:15 PM
I'm hoping I can hold off until sub $100 lol

@Joe There was a shortage for a while so people were reselling them for a lot.
@MickLH Have fun waiting 5 years

I have goood question
Since you al No U.S. so well

lol @AttackingHobo, well I don't expect it to get there in time :P, but I'm still gonna sit around hoping as long as I can work on something else in the meantime

Did Christopher Columbus discover the Americas?
I am really confused?

God that's so fucked up, @PsychOPhobiA

5:17 PM
Marco Pollo claimed he did

Lets not talk about the state of history education in this world

But then the Indians believed they did

You'll see how screwed up it all is, just take everything with a grain of salt

Okay.

Just remember how people tell their side of the story

5:18 PM
I don't concern myself with history too much. Most of it is editorialized bullshit

And remember how history is stories about countries
And remember how your country is "educating" you about history
And keep this one around too: So that it's not so bad when those ones click together: That it really must be done this way to keep the stupid masses at bay

Think about how countries try to explain to people what's happening right now - that's even worse

lol, I like @AttackingHobo solution
Just ignore the irrelevant bullcrap and have a great life

Can I affect the situation, does the situation affect me? No. Ok, not concerned.

Its a disscusion I have to type

5:22 PM
@PsychOPhobiA just say whatever your teacher said

My classmates thinks its lies but I am not sure

I think it's important to know both what is taught and the reality of history, partially because history can be learned from, but more than that, it's very helpful to explain the motivations behind what various groups do around the world

It doesn't matter what's right or wrong in school, it's about making your teacher mark the right checkbox near your name.
That's it. I mean try to learn something if you can, but don't trust it any more than you would trust the internet.

Don't won't to get an F saying its lies. The only chance I have is to quote and get sources and stuff to keep the F off my buttt

hahahahaha open-minded face

5:24 PM
If your teacher gives you an F for questioning something, he's worth less than the book he's using to teach you. This would be a reason to talk to someone who could fire him
If you just claim "that's all lies!" without making a real argument then you're on the wrong path though

@Christoph he's probably forced to give an F for any answer that doesn't agree with the textbook. questioning things is a different discussion.

I seriously gotta bookmark the good things I find on OGA.
Now I'm looking for some assets, but I have no idea how I found them back then.

^
When I go on an OGA spree I just download everything I find interesting

@William'MindWorX'Mariager use your history

I think I would discuss the meaning of the word "discover" in that sentence.
He wasn't the first European to get there, though it appears he's the one who made it seem important.

5:28 PM
@PsychOPhobiA if you want an actual answer instead of just a bunch of hate on the education system, the vikings discovered north america about 500 years before columbus, but they didn't stay long. but the first humans to discover north america were thousands of years before that (45,000-12,000 BCE) and they're now called the Paleo-Indians. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paleo-Indians

so you could argue he made the knowledge of its existence more important in Europe, which had huge ramifications historically speaking.

You're taking a lot of big risks giving him information like that

haha :)
I wouldn't say that

He can research on his own, and if he can't he should be learning how to

oh from that perspective
well yeah

5:29 PM
right, @PsychOPhobiA, if you want to regurgitate what I said you'll have to find your own sources

but even when I was in high school, the whole "CC discovered america" was becoming "CC 'discovered' america"

And you don't know his teacher, if you give him correct info but it's only source is Wikipedia, then you could be setting him up for a shitty situation where he's right and the teacher is wrong

that I'm not worried about. I mean it's not my problem.

@PsychOPhobiA pro tip, use wikipedia, but click on the sources that are linked and make sure they are good then use that as the source, not wikipedia

^

5:30 PM
also, check the source's source

and the source's source's source.

I've seen a few examples where someone edited wikipedia, then sourced that page in a new paper, then the wikipedia article was edited to source that paper, creating a circular reference

hahaha

I can't wait until we can just check Wolfram Alpha instead, and have it compute the closed form solution to the universe at that exact point in space and time.

5:32 PM
do want

I have never seen a phone more stunning looking than that
It looks so good it looks fake

looks like an Apple product.

to me it looks upside-down-ish

god android's text icon bothers me so much

this is droid, right?

5:33 PM
lol no, the iphone has a lot of space around the screen. this is better than an apple product.

I don't mean "it looks like an iPhone"
I mean, it has the clean lines and simple design of an apple product
like this thing

@MickLH I never use the default skins so I can't really comment

a non-apple pal of mine bought that as his first apple product, since it had an FM radio he could pause
as soon as he had it, he loved the shit out of it.
was funny
sure I could come up with a game for it
nice challenge. video game on a one-inch screen

Joe
@AttackingHobo is this a real thing yet?

@Joe yes. click the article
oh its not launched yet, but its real
Sprint only though.
$239 without a contract, very impressed with that pricing

5:38 PM
it looks more bling than clean and simple to me
iPhones are going that way too
with silver/gold-ish home buttons
and double color backs

Joe
still looks badass

damn ghetto music infecting everything

Joe
well need a better screen protector system for something like this though
damnit... why must you guys show me cool tech deals, i have a limited budget

IDK that design seems very useful and not about bling

I have been researching and found nothing

5:42 PM
It's all about that Bling! Ching! Ching! wowo Ching! wowo Ching! aouw

thank god

what if someone sticks one with a $49 reward on the other side?

do the last 4 digits look like 6439 to anyone else?

MLM
6431 to me
maybe 6421

5:47 PM
oh lol, I was debating between that and 6408
if maybe, they let the pen too light at the bottom of the 8

1428
Don't think its a 6, look at that other six, way dark

but maybe they did that on accident, the circle is filled in, maybe the next one is an overcompensation in darkness and "spin"-ness

Not enough bend on the top as well
42 pretty confident, but the last one is a toss up

well it looks like the blur is simple, maybe it can be processed to create possible arrangements of pixels with the same sum
and then those can be filtered and sorted by spatial continuity, and some radial heurestic for the black mark's width

I have figured out the actual phone number, and you're all wrong (except for the 4), but I'm not gonna dox someone here. probably shouldn't have even posted an image with her full name... but it's been all over the internet already so meh whatever.

5:53 PM
Who puts up flyers of an lost Ipod Touch????
Who wants to give it back for some stinky $50

and maybe, just maybe the reconstruction that fits both the smoothness and line fatness characteristic best is a legible phone number

Who wants to give it back at all?

@PsychOPhobiA A thief who really needs the money but has a guilty conscience.

Doesn't even need to be a thief

@PsychOPhobiA :/ I have returned things that people have lost to them, and I have found wallets and taken those to the managers of the place that I have found them in

5:58 PM

enhance!
