10:55 AM
anyone else think this looks a bit suspicious? android.stackexchange.com/questions/60776/…
lots of first posters... all complaining about Avast.

11:09 AM
not that suspicious
the question's on the first page of Google for {avast mobile security trojans}

yeah just spotted that, it seems they've released a dodgy definition update

if there is some bug in Avast! that's only started recently, it's plausible all these people would find the site

yeah, good point

I'm here to just remind the moderators about the same question
accidentally seen that you guys discussing the same..:)

@bmdixon As you've already done the research, would you like to write an answer that links to a credible source, saying they've broken it?

11:20 AM
I did try to post an answer which i've now put as a comment on the question but it wouldn't let me as it kept asking for a CAPTCHA but wouldn't accept it. I'll try again now

someone pls make it protected from "same here" posts

@BryanDenny ping!

looks like they are working on it

I managed to post an answer via the app
@Akhil lets hope that stops the "me too!" posts :)

11:36 AM
yes

@Akhil could you add a link to the forum thread those screenshots are from for reference?

@Akhil Akhil, I just cropped your second screenshot to make it readable without clicking through, as that seems to be the important one saying what action the user should take

11:52 AM
Some mod around here to protect this Q against the me-too-flooding? android.stackexchange.com/questions/60776/… @BryanDenny ?

see the transcript :-)

@Izzy I really wonder what's causing this "same here" flood
hmm it's all on the same question

I speculated earlier
it seems to be a problem that's come about suddenly, and ASE is on the first page of Google hits

@DanHulme Right, the q is 1 hour old but has already >500 views

12:09 PM
Thanks for protecting it, whoever did it (looks like the auto-trigger after all the flags risen).
So much about the usefulness of AV apps on Android. More trouble than use. Some common sense doesn't hurt that much, and protects as good :)

@Izzy questions get auto protected once 3 or more answers from low rep users are deleted

@Flow Ah, so it was me #D

@Izzy I also advised my dad to uninstall avast over the holidays
seems right i was right

I wonder why a 30k+ user has no possibility to directly protect a Q in cases like this.
@Flow Hehe, yeah #D

@Izzy Most of the "rules" are with stackoverflow in mind
I think all stackexchange sites run with the same settings. I always wonder why they don't fine tune them a bit

12:13 PM
@Flow Yeah. And what's 30k on SO, might be comparable with 2k here. But as there are adjustments for "smaller stacks" in other areas, it might be a good idea to have the same with this.

@bmdixon added source avast forum link

12:34 PM
Hmm, did stackexchange remove the anonymous feedback feature?
At least I am unable to find the stats for it
@Izzy As 10k user you should be able to view the feedback
Are you able to find a link from the 10k tools to android.stackexchange.com/tools/post-feedback

12:54 PM
@Flow Nope. But I also don't get what those stats are supposed to say. E.g. "Least helpful" has high-rated answers which seem to be "very helpful", like the often referenced "cannot unlock tablet...".

@Izzy You know how these stats are composed?

@Flow Nope.
Btw: We could add the corresponding links here – it's our wiki, so they wouldn't get lost with site changes.
Just I cannot do it, no edit buttons there.

@Izzy it makes me feel kind of special that the top least helpful question/answer of all time is mine!

LOL If I knew what that should mean...
@Flow that help page also promises "full history of reviews by all users". Cannot find that either.

@Izzy I have that. Maybe it's mod only and the help page is lying
@GAThrawn Don't bother with it. People also give negative feedback if the answer is correct but they wished a different answer

1:01 PM
@Izzy Isn't that just these pages android.stackexchange.com/review/close/history

@GAThrawn I believe normal users just see their review history

@GAThrawn Ah! Thanks, that makes sense.
@Flow Do I see a connection? Least-helpful = Most-downvoted, or something like that? Strange that a post with still 20+ upvotes shown can be "least helpful", while another one with 5 upvotes shows up in "most helpful"... #D
So much about stats. How was that? "Never trust a statistic you didn't forge yourself" #D

Q: 10k-tools are missing the link to the post-feedback

FlowThe 10k tools used to have a link to the post feedback http://android.stackexchange.com/tools/post-feedback but this link seems to be missing now.

Q: The "Ask Question" button is misplaced

FlowSince a few weeks, the "Ask Question" button is a bit of:

@Izzy Anonymous users, i.e. users that don't have an account, are presented with an "Was this post helpful? Yes / No" query. If a upvoted post receives mostly negative feedback from anonymous users then it's overrated

And I guess "Was this post helpful?" could easily be no every time if people don't know how to query google properly!

1:10 PM
@StackExchange (@Flow) Huh? What browser are you using? I cannot confirm that.
@Flow Ah. OK, don't know how helpful that is #D
@GAThrawn Exactly that. And I guess that's what happens most of the time.

1:28 PM
@DanHulme It looks like you solved an long standing problem with my setup and AE
I have in fact roboto installed on my linux system

I had a similar problem when I installed it

1:42 PM
@DanHulme looks like the community auto mod'ed it
and it looks like that was already explained (sorry catching up from yesterday)

welcome back

for some reason I didn't get the ping on my phone until I woke up this morning

is the reason that you were asleep? ;-)

nooo I should have gotten it way before then
if I was pinged at ~7pm and I go to bed at midnight.... then I should have received it :)

2:03 PM
@BryanDenny in bed? Or at 7pm? #D

2:38 PM
@DanHulme You robot link fixed the issue and I have now bold faces again on AE :-)

2 hours later…
4:51 PM
ooh, one of my projects is potentially releasable

5:39 PM
@DanHulme tell use more :)

it's an input method tester
it gives you an EditText along with controls for changing all the text editor hints (the inputType and imeOptions)
that's all, nothing clever

1 hour later…
7:05 PM
wow, I just had someone straight up email me asking me to help them do their app

7:32 PM
@DanHulme But that could help in one of the issues asked today, probably? Digital/Physical keyboard not sending input on occasion
