@JosephWright I think you can implement this one:

A: Sorting out {encodings}, {font-encodings}, {fontenc}, and {inputenc}

lockstepAs my proposal has so far gained a score of +9, I've changed/added the tag wiki excerpts for font-encodings and the new input-encodings: {input-encodings} is about the various input code pages like latin1 or utf-8 ({unicode}) which interprete the sequence of numbers underlying files and m...

@lockstep Will look at it later if Stefan doesn't get there first!

@JosephWright Thanks!

8:06 AM
@daleif I've removed my answer on the latexmk question as I'd obviously misunderstood how the option works: would you like to answer?

8:22 AM
@lockstep Done

@JosephWright should have been made a synonym of the new , not vice versa. ;-)

@lockstep Should now be fixed

@JosephWright Indeed -- and I managed to restore the tag wiki excerpt.
is now at 118 questions, with the retagging of questions still missing. I think egreg will be awared a new tag badge soon. ;-)

This question is more about a windows problem than a TeX problem. Should it be migrated?
0
A: Miktex runtime error!

KurtPlease have a look on the Microsoft page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/126709/en-us. Your windows system has a problem. Reboot your computer system. If the reboot does not help check which other programm you have running causing your problems as the microsoft site said.

@Kurt I'm afraid that such a question would be off-topic everywhere :-/

@tohecz :-)

@Kurt Maybe off-topic is not precise, it's off-topic here and too localized on superuser

@tohecz Is there a windows part on SE? I do not know. I search the knowledge base of microsoft to solve microsoft problems ...

12:12 PM

Okay, I see.
Then should this question migrated?

Q: How to get rid of this message: 'allow MiKTeX Package Manager to make changes to this computer'

user33989There is a popup for the MiKTeX package manager, which asks me about installing new package. But it is irritating, as it happens every time I compile? How to stop this. I did the step: Refresh FNDB, but doesn't help. -Sameer

@Kurt Yes, probably: I have done this

This question can be closed as too localized (installing error of the op, see last comment)

Q: Using `\usepackage{listings}` stops PDF generation, fails to work but compiled

snarioI have been having this problem for ages and simply cannot figure out a solution. I have been trying to use the listings package to write some simple code snippets but every time I add the \usepackage{listings} and then any kind of use of lstlisting, nothing compiles anymore. I build and I get Te...

@Kurt Has to be 'off topic' as we no longer have TL

@JosephWright Yes, I know, but I really miss too localized ;-)
I think this can be closed as off topic, because op uses macro \large in a wrong way, See comment of egreg.

@Kurt Skeptics.SX :)
This could also be a valid answer from David if I ask a good site for posting vim questions. :)

@PauloCereda LOL

12:45 PM
@Kurt every time he does this, a kitten dies :(

Bad thought that would a lot of ... :(

@Kurt More like an answer from egreg, I think

@JosephWright Do you ask him for writing one?

This question can be close because no reaction of op and off topic (MikTeX installation)?

Q: MikTeX installation problem

user32700I am having some installation problem. I tried installing MikTeX couple of times and each time when I try to compile some words on TeXmaker, the program says 'could not start the command'. I have already tried some of the answers that I found on here such as Latex- latex -interaction=nonstopmo...

The op solved the problem by installing MiKTeX instead of ProTeXt. Seems to be an editor problem. closing as off topic?

Q: Just installed ProText. Command paths all "unknown"

MadihaInstallation went fine but I haven't been able to view a document. I have created and saved a sample document. If I click "build and compile" (the two green arrows) it says "Can't find C:\Users..." though that is the correct file path. "Compile" (single green arrow) does nothing. Clicking the Ado...

No reaction of op since asking, so off topic?

Q: Is there any way to export an Excel table that contains images to LaTeX?

MSBIf I use the Excel2LaTeX addin, the images are not exported and the column is left empty. Is there any way to export this table that contains images without having to export each image separately? Or would it be better to just save the Excel file as a PDF and merge with the document at the end?

@DavidCarlisle ...as expected (IMO), it makes no difference... any further hints?

@Werner \tracingall ;)

Op solved the problem with field howpublished. Off topic or should one write a cw answer? I would tend to off topic.

Q: How do I cite a website using BibTeX?

StevenI'm using BibTeX to create my bibliography for my thesis. This all works well except that it seems to have some issues to cite websites correctly. In the BibTeX tool, I choose webpage and add the URL of the website. However, this does not show up in my final bibliography. Currently, I have this...

2:24 PM
@tohecz Huh? I mean, what would that help?

@Werner does so, I tested it before posting, you need the version with a space at the end (which is why use csname)
@Werner actually the fact that you need the space version indicates some dubious processing earlier, the author list has \protect\textsuperscript<space> but really depending on the setting of \protect used while expanding the list earlier it should be ``\protect\textsuperscript` or \textsuperscript<space>
@Werner ^^^

2:42 PM
@DavidCarlisle ...aaaah, the "space version". I didn't pick up on the <space> after \textsuperscript. It now stands out like a sore thumb.

@Werner Blame Alan:-)

3:01 PM
@JosephWright: can I ask you a newbie siunitx question? :)

@PauloCereda Yup

@PauloCereda you can ask: doesn't mean he'll answer.

@JosephWright I have a S type in a tabular environment. Is there a clean way to add a dash -- in a certain line, representing that there is no value there?
@DavidCarlisle I can always post a question and watch you and egreg fight for ticks. :)

@PauloCereda too hot for fighting

@DavidCarlisle How hot? :)

3:03 PM
@PauloCereda {--} should work

@JosephWright It does! Thank you! <3
@DavidCarlisle: see? Joseph is a good person. :)

@PauloCereda been over 30 all week 36 some days

@DavidCarlisle Wow!

@PauloCereda i'm not in th eUK:-)

@DavidCarlisle How come you have different weathers on Europe? :)

4:30 PM
@Werner Well, ask @David, he always says "don't fight \tracingall". And the truth is, deep tracing of the expansion has helped me several times in situation like this one.

5:01 PM
@tohecz Yes, I know, thanks. The secret was in the space after \textsuperscript. And, this was difficult to spot since \tracing... does show all the tokens, with spaces between then already... :-|

5:24 PM
Can somebody please test the solution proposed in

A: mdframed incompatible with paralist

Gonzalo MedinaUsing \leavevmode before asparaenum seems to fix the problem: \documentclass[11pt]{book} \usepackage[neveradjust]{paralist}% \usepackage{mdframed} \begin{document} \begin{mdframed} \leavevmode\begin{asparaenum}[\bfseries i.]%i, ii, iii. \begin{minipage}[t]{72mm} \item%i xxxxxxxxxxxxx...

Using an updated installation?
OP claims that \leavevmode is not required, but with the current versions of the packages it is.

Do we have a question regarding the capture of the end-of-line character. For example, if one wishes to define a macro that captures everything up to the end-of-line?
...like \def\myitem#1\par{<do stuff with #1>}...
...but this requires an explicit \par.
I'll ask on the main site if there's nothing to be found.

@Werner I'm sorry to bother you. Could you please test the answer I mentioned in my previous commet?
And @PauloCereda, if you could also test the answer, that'd be great. And Hi, by the way :-)

@GonzaloMedina It works for me. :)

@PauloCereda Ah, you're fast!

@GonzaloMedina Hola!
@GonzaloMedina I'll learn Spanish for next year's TUG! :)

5:34 PM
@PauloCereda Hola, Paulo. ¿Cómo estás? Cuando dices "works" te refieres a que funciona con \leavevmode y no funciona sin él.

@GonzaloMedina It works for me as well, even though I only have access to ShareLaTeX at the moment (running TL 2011).

@GonzaloMedina Un minuto por favor. :)

@Werner Thanks!

@GonzaloMedina: Sin \leavevmode el código no funciona. :)

@PauloCereda Gracias. Veo que el español va muy bien, ¡felicitaciones!

5:36 PM
@GonzaloMedina Long story, actually. :)

I have 23 minutes, so if you want to, you can tell.

@GonzaloMedina Poke me on GTalk. :)

@PauloCereda In a minute. Do you know if in an answer I can link to a comment here in chat?

@GonzaloMedina I guess so, but it won't be expanded nicely, I guess.

@PauloCereda I only need the link; do you know how can I get the proper link?

5:45 PM

@GonzaloMedina Click the \arrowdown in the left of the message you want to refer to, a popup will appear, and you click in the permalink. :)

@PauloCereda Thanks!

6:31 PM
@GonzaloMedina Yes. Click on the down arrow to the left of the chat you want to link to and you can copy the permalink.

Solved by updating caption, so that is OT now? tex.stackexchange.com/questions/123930/…

7:44 PM
hello
I already asked how to embed fonts from Dejavu Sans Extralight in Lates documents. This is the link to my original question : http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/125390/dejavu-sans-light-with-xelatex

None the less, the character U+2C7A (an O with a ring INside) is being displayed a blank square. I picked the letter via Kcharselect, so it exists. It is in the plane Latin -Extended C

Do I have a conflict with \usepackage[T1]{fontenc} , that is do I need a different encoding?

7:59 PM
@Sean Hi! :)
We might need the font experts. :) Let's summon the Unicode Jedi Master @DavidCarlisle with the passphrase: Oh boy, surely vim is way better than emacs! :)

:D
by the way, may i add that i \neg love this pokemon anime manga hentai or japanese crap in general?

@Sean :) I'm not a fan either. I just posted it because of NHL (Alan follows the league). :)

:D

8:24 PM
@lockstep: What's with . Sounds... weird.

Do we really need a tag? (Just added to only one question)

Q: Multiple citations with pages using BibLaTeX

SpmPHow can I do multiple citations with page numbers using bibLaTeX/biber? I have tried \cite[2,3,4]{ref1,ref2,ref3,ref4} but it doesn't work.

@Werner It's not weird, it's useless.

@egreg It actually has two, but I agree that it is useless.

@egreg: yay welcome back! :)

I don't know what to do about such things though. That is, useless tags.

hello egreg

8:30 PM
@Sean Ciao! Tonight the connection seems to be stabler than the previous days.
@Werner Somebody is chasing for "suitable" questions, it seems.

nice!
MWE has been added btw

@Sean Using newtxtext is wrong.

oh?
why , may i ask?
i actually liked the font
but that solved it !

Dan
So what is the general consensus on WYSIWYM LaTeX editors like Lyx?
Bad juju... just stick with a text editor... or go for it?

i dont really enjoy lyx
but to quickly type a letter
i would use lyx

8:40 PM
@Dan Depends on what you're after I guess. Some things are easier with LyX, and if you're just doing fairly simple things you don't have to know any code. Some things can be more "clumsy", or cumbersome though. Personally, I prefer writing the LaTeX code myself.

@Sean I've added an answer
@Sean By the way, I wouldn't use LyX even under physical threat. ;-)

@egreg We can even take the comfy chair! :)

@PauloCereda That's what I need after this morning's walk through the Marais and, in the afternoon, around the Panthéon.

@egreg How nice! Beautiful landscapes?

@PauloCereda The Marais is just next door where I'm lodged here in Paris; no landscape, buildings everywhere. ;-)

8:49 PM
@egreg You have the Eiffel Tower! :)

@PauloCereda No way!

@egreg My bad. :P

@PauloCereda I've been up to the Montparnasse tower; the view is magnificent, but I couldn't really go too near the windows. The Tour Eiffel has no window!

@egreg Oh my!
And the speak French everywhere! :P
@egreg: by the way, you got mail. :)

@PauloCereda I noticed that. ;-)

8:57 PM
egreg, that still does not work

@Sean It works for me.

@egreg:
\documentclass[english]{article}
%\usepackage[ xelatex]{fontenc}
%\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
\usepackage{centernot}
%\usepackage{breqn}
%\usepackage{dsfont}
\usepackage{dejavu}
\usepackage[no-math]{fontspec}
\usepackage{natbib}
\usepackage{graphicx}
\usepackage{xunicode}
\usepackage{xltxtra}

\usepackage{mathrsfs}
\usepackage{mathtools}

\usepackage{amssymb}
\usepackage{amsmath}
%\usepackage{newtxtext}
\usepackage{newtxmath}

\newfontfamily\urw{URW Gothic L}
\DeclareTextFontCommand{\murw}{\urw}
do you spot any error?

@Sean Yes. What's \usepackage{dejavu} for? Why not following my example?

i needed the other packages,
and i am not sure why i had the djvu package
also removing the use package dejavu has no change

@Sean I told you not to load xunicode and xltxtra; amsmath should go before fontspec.

9:06 PM
oh i did not notice, sory
no changes
even if i remove tingsh

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage[english]{babel}

\usepackage{centernot}
\usepackage{mathrsfs}
\usepackage{mathtools}

\usepackage{newtxmath}

\usepackage[no-math]{fontspec}

\usepackage{natbib}
\usepackage{graphicx}

%\newfontfamily\urw{URW Gothic L}
%\DeclareTextFontCommand{\murw}{\urw}
\newfontfamily\dej{DejaVu Sans ExtraLight}
\DeclareTextFontCommand{\mdej}{\dej}
\setmainfont[Ligatures=TeX]{TeX Gyre Termes}

\newcommand{\Dorbit}{\mdej{ⱺ}}

\begin{document}

math example: $\Dorbit$

\end{document}
@Sean The above document should work. I commented the URW lines because I don't have the font.

i copied it
and i pasted it
and i put the Tex Gyre Termes in comment, and use pagella
but still no changes
(using xelatex)
lua latex solves it
but it does not find the urw gothic fot
which xelatex was finding

@Sean I used XeLaTeX.

okey, and lua latex is missing other symbols

@Sean What TeX distribution are you using?

9:19 PM
it came with debian, texlive-latex
how do i get the info you are looking for?

@Sean Install the TUG TeX Live: tug.org/texlive. The Debian provided one is always behind.

uh okey
i will
somehow it is not downloading
target is not found
this, btw is the result of copying and pasting your code i.imgur.com/etXs70B.png

@Sean Oh no, the interface is in German! <3
:)

texworks

A good TeX editor, by the way. :)

9:32 PM
yex, i love it .... i also have texstudio, kile, and gummi
i write, depending on my mood in one of them
as well as latex

You can try some hardcore ones, like vim or knock on wood emacs. :)
I still expect @DavidCarlisle suddenly appearing in the chatroom everytime I say emacs. :)

i have emacs as well
but not on this hdd

Oh no, another one. :)

i use it in the train to save power :)

C-x tickets-please

9:39 PM
:D
:D:D:D i am still laughing and having difficulty to fucos on my gf in other caht window

Dan
10:10 PM
Does XeLaTeX notoriously take a long time to compile a document or is this template just the issue?
Disregard, I think this one's way over my head
