12:00 AM
@Cerberus: Just got an LG G4 today.

4 hours later…
3:45 AM
Ooh, I can get a new phone pretty soon.

7 hours later…
10:46 AM
@terdon see, that's a QED!
If I write "Russians suck the worst", exactly zero Russians will turn up to check the transcript if I said that.
But if I write "Greece is the worst thing ever since sliced bread", I can count on a stray Greek showing up within 24 hours.
Mind you, there are OVER 9000 more Russians than there are Greeks. And they are OVER 9000 times more unemployed and/or bored.
In conclusion, Greece is the worst!

Aren't you supposed to be at church?

(Like, seriously, have you seen the shoes Hermes is wearing? Simply ridiculous.)
@tchrist and you think I am not, because?
room topic changed to English Language & Usage: Kill your enemies with sliced bread [tae-kwan-dough]

Do this in remembrance of me.

Anyway, must sing a few chorals now.
Tschö mit Ö!
Ciao-kakao!
Tschüssikowski!

Don't forget to dip the bread in the wine.

11:16 AM
Btw I didn't get the room title. How can anyone kill anyone with a bread?

user116848
By not giving them?

user116848
Throwing at them?

user116848
I'm clueless.

11:34 AM
@Arrowfar Look at the tag.

> The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and riffle their pockets for new vocabulary.

12:05 PM
@JohanLarsson All language works that way.

I wound up with this: "При анализе образцов человеческого кала, взятого у добровольцев с неповрежденными ЖКТ после употребления в пищу ГМ сои, внедренный ген обнаружен не был, что говорит о том, что внедренный ген обычно полностью разлагается в толстой кишке." -- basically "human faeces obtained from volunteers". — CopperKettle 26 mins ago
@RegDwigнt Right up your . . . alleyway.

TIL you can't post exactly the same message twice consecutively in chat
TIL you can't post exactly the same message twice consecutively in chat
except if you edit it :/

spam filter, I guess

Protocol for detecting retransmissions, perhaps.

Yeah, I also found out you can't use JavaScript to post a countdown timer in chat. I tried to do that once and discovered the system has a progressively higher lockout for posts.
In other words, it might let you post one a second after the first, but then you can't post another for three seconds, then five, then n. Not sure of the actual progression, only that there is one.
So nobody can write a script to spam chat in any horrible way.
Well, perhaps that's overstating it a bit. "Horrible" is in the eye of the beholder.

There’s a formula for that, but the second of two messages gets a bye when the one previous to the first was long enough ago.

A: Can I please be trusted to not to script a bot that dumps an endless stream of spam messages into the chat?

Marc GravellWe have done some extra work on this. The overall rates haven't changed, but - we now let you post (or edit) once (in any sequence) before the system gets all prissy. This means you can do a quick 2-liner, or a ninja edit, without it complaining. This seems to cover a majority of the cases it is ...

However, you have to have received the ACK for the first message before it lets you edit it.

1:42 PM
@tchrist *lets (have another cup of coffee)

@tchrist how do the SE spambots work then?
How do we know that I'm not a spambot?
realizes I am a spam bot
explodes

@Mitch You mean Smokey?

2:03 PM
@tchrist er... yeah... smokey? the one that checks for repeated characters and chinese and such

2:21 PM
@Mitch Smokey is careful about rate limits.

@JohanLarsson fascinating as long as you're not at the top of the tree.

why would a snake want to climb a tree?

2:39 PM
maybe it got bored with only seeing 0.1m?

#smallpersonsproblems
but certainly to eat something

@tchrist How did you edit that so long after the grace period?

he is blue

2:56 PM
Oh, I hadn't noticed.
Would it work if you're only feeling blue?

2 hours later…
4:26 PM
no

listened to ^ a couple of times
Rust looks pretty nice.

Blue is the colour of all that he wears.

Don’t think this guy is a native speaker:
> 'fuck' is frequently used throughout literature and common speech and allegedly no offense to most users
He apparently has no fucking clue.
If you don't think the post title is publishable on the front page of the New York Times, it's not appropriate and should be edited. It is fucking naïve to fucking pretend that fuck isn’t fucking offensive to a fucking lot of fucks, or that this sort of sentence could ever be published on the front page of the New York Times. There are multiple reasons for cleaning up titles, but it is a network-wide SE policy, and we are not going to get it changed here. — tchrist 6 mins ago
See how harsh that sounds?

5:46 PM
yes

crl
this is right as fuck

When you say "he has no brain", why don't we use the plural on 'brain' since we say "he has zero cents"?

you could

crl
oh, ok, but the singular form "no brain", "no cent" is still correct?

6:00 PM
depends on the sentence

6:15 PM
Did I hear that your boys won two in a row?
@Robusto Heh.
@crl cents != sense

@RegDwigнt You have me firmly in the crushing grip of your logic. I bow my head and rest my case.

6:28 PM
@cornbreadninja麵包忍者 I heard it but didn't believe it :P
13 years is a long time to wait for two wins in a row

crl
@cornbreadninja麵包忍者 I really meant cents (as the money)

@crl Okay. Well, a person only has one brain. But some people do say brains.

As in multiple intelligences
Street smart, book smart, etc.

1 hour later…
7:51 PM
@skillpatrol Yeah, well, looks like the Bears might be going to win one against your team. Still too early to tell, but when was the last time the Bears were winning a game in the 4th quarter?

I can't watch...it's too painful :P
1 hour ago, by skill patrol
13 years is a long time to wait for two wins in a row

Well, according to ESPN the Raiders only need a field goal and they're on the Chicago 23 right now.
@skillpatrol Yup, 20-19 Raiders now.
Sep 29 at 11:04, by Robusto
@skillpatrol I think your Raiders will beat my Bears this week.
You heard it here first.

8:14 PM
@skillpatrol Not so fast. Bears kicked a field goal. Sorry, Raider Nation.
Two seconds left.

Yeah, I saw.

Aaaaand that's a wrap.
It has to feel doubly bad being beaten by the Bears.

Vega$ had da raiders favoured by 3
because of cutler

8:49 PM
@skillpatrol I thought as multiple hemispheres
my left brain, and my right one

Sure that works.

3 hours later…
11:27 PM
@skillpatrol Multiple intelligences means something a bit different from right and left hemispheres.
