@SEJPM the bear? do you mean Thomas?

I’m wondering if Apple just hired the name, or if they actually expect Jon to circumvent (read: fix) things like the FBI “attack” which – among other things – is based on hardware modification. Whatever… it’s always cool to see people get into nice jobs. Congratulations @JonCallas!!! I’m sure you’ll shine as you always do. (Looking around for nice employers, I can’t help but notice that I’m definitely living in the wrong country…)

11:46 AM
where are you from @e-sushi
?

@ddddavidee DE – That place where the general “feel” is like the face of the female chancellor… sad looking, with a chance of depression. ;)

lol

Compared to that, living in NL was like tasting the european version of US freedom.
But if I ever get a chance to live and work in the US, I’m ready to board a plane in less than 4 hours. (Yep, über-motivation)

;-)
I thought that living in DE was (auite) cool
cities like berlin or hambourg are very nice place to stay

Well, Berlin is definitely “en vogue” and more of a metropol – but I can’t help to be reminded of German history. Around and about 1937, Berlin was hyped likewise… while the rest of the country was still in “under development” mode.
Bah, it’s most probably just me. Having visited “the land of the free” one time too many, I got hooked on that capitalist “do or die” mantra. Whenever I try to translate that into German work environments, I get reminded of the fact that they are lacking the open-minded way of thinking. Result: same procedure as usual. The rest is stumped into the void by laws and regulations that are “a tick too restrictive” to enable real progress and/or innovation.

12:02 PM
@ddddavidee yes
@e-sushi you could ask around in our other place
I've heard the buffalo has something in the US

@SEJPM Nice idea… might just do that over the weekend. (thanks for the hint)
lol – just dawned upon me that US could also solve my ISP problems. Hope some of my meant-to-be-funny tweets didn’t put me on a no-fly list or something. ;)

12:45 PM
ahaha
is there a way to know what is the aveage of "points given" per day on Cryptography.SE?
I mean, how many +1, -1, modifications accepted, answer accepted per day?
It should be quite easy to compute from daily stats...

@SEJPM and "the buffalo" ?

ok, thanks
@SEJPM link is about "my" reputation, is there something global? I've no idea how many votes are given per day by the community, or how many questions, ...

@ddddavidee I don't know for sure, but there may be some answer hidden behind the 10k (light) mod tools and the 25k analytics

12:52 PM
ok
therefore i've to wait to gain 23k+ points ;-)

@ddddavidee if in doubt, try googling with "site:meta.stackexchange.com" in the query, this will restrict your search to MSE where this sort of Q usually hangs around

@e-sushi Nice ! I might be going there (NL) next year. =D

Q: Is this approach able to protect against padding oracle attacks?

bzaI know that a protection against the padding oracle attack is to encrypt-then-mac. This is to avoid trying to decrypt a modified ciphertext, and leak information about padding errors. Suppose that we have a content which is signed, and then encrypted. For decryption and signature control, this c...

I found out that avoiding padding oracle attacks is patented
By IBM. Nice.

@Biv Nice! 8]
@mikeazo One of these days, we should probably patent ourselves – just in case. Yet, chances are that we’ll learn that that’s impossible due to someone already having a patent on humanoid DNA or something like that. :/
Thinking about it… “avoiding padding oracle attacks” can be patented? In that case it should also be possible to patent “avoiding getting run over by a car”. /* When imagination hits reality, it’s clear I’m enjoying my day off. Be quiet, you nutty braincells. */

@ddddavidee Well, the analytics screen tells me “analytics data is intended for moderators only; please don't share the specifics of this data in public” so I can’t share any of that data. Yet, what I can say by looking at the numbers is that it definitely wouldn’t hurt the community if we would be able to double our activity in each and every area (asking, voting, answering).
As for publicly available data which might help to learn how well (or bad) you are doing compared to other people around here… it might help to check things like the reputation and the voting count stats of all Crypto.SE members. Besides that, there’s always the API (if you got time to code up an according stat-fetching-thingy that is).

6:35 PM
@e-sushi pls, we don't want to become patent trolls :(
