I have just found out that we can have a second candidate for the populist bladge. Lubos gives an excellent answer with 82 votes on the question which outwieght the accepted answer by 8 times: physics.stackexchange.com/questions/15/…;
Since the original poster is not active anymore, so the accepted answer cannot be changed
If we give one more vote to the "accepted" answer, then we can reward Lubos with this bladge and I think he deserve that.
I know that it is bad practice to ask someone to vote one a not so good answer this way...
particular when there is a very good answer
but it is a little fun :)

@all, would a question such as, "How reliable of a source is Wikipedia for physics and how much of it is written improperly," be appropriate for Physics.SE?

1 hour later…
3:59 AM
@Limitless It seems to call for discussion, no? Good for chat, however.
I find that the basic pages tend to be very good though occassionaly they take a different approach than I would have chosen.
Pages for cutting edge stuff are very hit or miss. It really depends if someone close to the work is willing to maintain the page or not.

@dmckee I feel that it can be very concrete (not wholly concrete) given the right definitions of "reliable" and "improperly". What do you think?
Your advice, by the way, is nonetheless very substantial. :-)

@Limitless for explaining concepts, there's still a good chance that it misses the mark, imo

user54412
some editors get too distracted with the details they know so well, they forget how to craft good pedagogical expositions

user54412
but for looking up numbers, it's the first place i go

user54412
other more "official" sites (particle data group, jpl, whatever) just have worse interfaces and searchability

9:33 AM
@Manishearth Hi Manish...
Could we really do some "improvise" inorder to unupvote or undownvote..? (assume thats a valid one - a substantial one)
I'm not pointing you... It reminded me of something I've done before...
Once, I upvoted the post (with my eyes closed), I mean - thinking of a guy's credit.
After reading the answer (some 8 mins gone), I thought that it didn't require an upvote.
It looked like it requires some revision - maybe my good,
Then, I was able to unupvote it. Well, Is this good?

9:51 AM
@CrazyBuddy Yeah, its fine as long as you don't do it too often and you improve everything possible
Really, it's better not to do this to unupvote, but it's not that bad
but it's great if you do it to undownvote (it's the intended purpose of it)

Sorry that I wasn't there at that moment... Suddenly, I got a modem failure..\
@Manishearth I think, there's also a bug associated with it... (with that upvoting and unupvoting)
For example, take this question - I've revised it today: (well, I retagged it)

Q: Can we have a black hole without a singularity?

OzzahAssuming we have a sufficiently small and massive object such that it's escape velocity is greater than the speed of light, isn't this a black hole? It has an event horizon that light cannot escape, time freezes at this event horizon, etc. However this object is not a singularity. If a large sta...

10:10 AM
so I came across this old post today: physics.stackexchange.com/questions/3189/…

Hi there Chris :-)

user54412
problem is, the link has become password protected (by my own school no less!)

user54412
Hi :)

Yeah, I see that

user54412
i can't find a better link, since i don't know which paper he's referencing

user54412
10:11 AM
if anyone knows, they're welcome to fix it - though i guess not many people are here right now...

Didn't you crack your school's password (atleast you could ask someone - seniors maybe)..?

user54412
it's probably using htaccess or something insecure - i bet @Manishearth could crack it in a few seconds :P

user54412
but ideally we'd have a link to a truly open document

@Manishearth Hey Manish - got a job for ya...

user54412
and my school id doesn't work - already tried

user54412
10:13 AM
i'd actually like to read the paper - sounds interesting

Err.. No one could do that - sorry

user54412
yeah - google wasn't helpful with that - but maybe that was me mistyping

I think you're quite welcome to post it in meta instead
A lot more people could possibly see it...
If your meta score reaches high, it'll get displayed in main site

user54412
i'll do something about it by tomorrow if nothing else happens

user54412
actually David seems to know the paper, so I was hoping to find him and solve it quickly

10:16 AM
Yeah, He's not around now
But, he'll be swarming everywhere..?
@ChrisWhite I pinged you for one thing: Who is Leonard susskind..?

user54412
one of the really big names in string theory

I noticed his name in a lecture

user54412
to be honest, i couldn't tell you what his personal contribution to the field is

though I've got some overview on SR, I thought I could get into it from the roots
so, I started spending time with these lectures (from yesterday)
@ChrisWhite Is it time for you to go..?

user54412
yeah... the sun will be coming up soon :P

10:23 AM
Ah :-D

user54412
i haven't watched these particular lectures before, but i've heard good things

@ChrisWhite One thing that made me to start:
I don't really like my 1st year syllabus, dealing with elasticity, acoustics and ultrasonics, etc.
So, I thought of getting into my favorite SR

user54412
well, i think it's a good idea

I think, it is important in Astrophysics - I could start it right away

user54412
if you are interested, you may try to look up the Feynman lectures

user54412
10:26 AM
they're harder to come by, and most only have audio, no video, but they are very good listening

Yeah.. I've heard many people here (in SE) talking about his lectures
I've found some e-books on that

user54412
they don't so much make up a coherent course - they're more like individual lectures on small topics

user54412
actually, there are the lectures by Feynman himself, and there's the book they made out of someone taking notes in the class he taught - people often refer to both rather ambiguously

Well, My bad - If I ask any of the guys (or lecturers in my colg.), they'll ask me - "WHO's that fella?"

user54412
well anyway, I'm off to sleep

10:29 AM
Ok, Ok - Bye then :-)

11:10 AM
@CrazyBuddy the Lenny Susskind lectures are actually great; I have seen all of them starting from the course of theoretical mechanics (Lagrange formalism etc) on to QM, statistical mechanics, relativity, QFT, particle physics, cosmology, and ST of course. No kidding ;-P. The maths is simplified and of course these lectures do not replace a proper course at a university. But they are a great starter to delve into a new topic and he explains amazingly good the most important concepts of the
respective subject. And Lenny Susskind has a cool sense of humor, I often had to LOL when watching these lectures because he can be funny as hell :-D. I'm actually rewatching his last two courses.

11:40 AM
@Dilaton Well, That seems to be and encouraging thought :-)
Thanks Dilaton...
I thought that his videos are only SR & GR...
I've started just now...
As my 1st sem exams are over, I'll be free for atleast two months (though I've only 4 days for vacation)
Then, I have to search for the rest of 'em... :-P

11:56 AM
@CrazyBuddy If you look at the bottom of Lenny Susskind's Wikipedia Page you can find linkes to all the courses he has given. There are such introductary lectures about all topics in theoretical physics. I hope your exam went well, enjoy your vacations ;-).

@Dilaton I've declared my first year college syllabus to be "off-topic" for my career...

@ChrisWhite I replaced the link with the actual PRL link
BUT
that's still paywalled

I saw that now... And thats a big list...

I can see it directly, don't know if you can
Let me know if you can't

@Manishearth I can't understand... How'd you know the original paper
Have u seen it already..?

12:04 PM
@CrazyBuddy I knew that PRL==Physics Review Letters
I just googled google.co.in/…

I was just shocked by seeing "Did he really crack it?" - chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/7458761#7458761

Nah
I Googled

@CrazyBuddy yeah, if you want to watch all of them you'll have fun many hours :-D

and IIT gives us access to all papers (more or less)
so I can see it

What is this..?
How many offers do u have..? :P
Ok, did you see my ping..? - My question?

12:07 PM
I think this is standard for most large institutes. Right, @Dilaton?
@CrazyBuddy what's the bug?

3 sec..
You saw that question upvoted by 4..? (It has mine tooo)

Now, I've unupvoted it...
After revision, I unupvoted and upvoted it again...
Now, the voting should be locked (by now)
Nah, atleast after 5 mins (6 hours gone)
Now, I could still trigger between upvote and unupvote...
Jump here & there..
A mild disclaimer: Remove these after the chat :-)

@CrazyBuddy not sure

What now?
I've upvoted it again. - After 5 mins, we'll (you'll) see that again...

12:12 PM
@CrazyBuddy hmm...

@Manishearth Till that, I'm off to where I was... - Parenting.SE
I'll ping you within 5 mins

Did you edit once or twice? It shows once in the revision history, but it could be due to the grace period

I edited only one (i.,e) TODAY

hmm

Grace period.. Huh? - more than 6 hrs..? - Well, thats too much.

12:14 PM
@CrazyBuddy no, if you re-edit a post within 5 mins of a previous edit, the two edits are merged and shown in the revision history

I know - still, the answer is ONE

Lets you fix small things quickly without having to worry about creating another rev and pushing the post to CW status

I know that tooo...
But, I didn't do it...
I just added the tag "event horizon" and changed the HTML links to SE links
all of a sudden within a single edit..
I always prefer "NOT TO REVISE IT AGAIN"..! - except my posts :-P
And, that marks the end of 5 mins... I think so
@Manishearth Err.. I've unupvoted it again :-)

I see a 3 score q

But when I posted in chat, it was 3. Then, I re-upvoted it to 4....
Now, I unupvoted it again...
Could you check that - "Is this triggering avail. only for the editor or is it for all users?"
Well, What'd ya say?

12:20 PM
I say you post on MSO with the exact details of your voting
I'm not really sure what's going on here :s

@Manishearth Ummm.... Sorry - But, I could ask you that. Could you help me?
I'm not good in writing questions...

@CrazyBuddy busy atm

Ok, I'll try it then...
@Manishearth Could you keep this transcript for a while (atleast for today), so that - they could notice this one atleast

@CrazyBuddy I'm not deleting it--no need to :)
(unless you request it later)

@Manishearth I thought that - other users may start playing :-)
Ok, Bye then. I'll ping you something when I needed some HELP :-P

1 hour later…
1:26 PM
@Manishearth Well, Manish - I've finally posted my question.
Its a surprose that All have understood it (after so much confusion)

2 hours later…
3:13 PM
@CrazyBuddy Btw, regarding a comment you left on WebApps, the golden rule is "Don't Migrate Crap"

3:34 PM
@Manishearth Ok, But When did you see that?
Hey, Are you rounding up all sites..? (at once)

4:00 PM
@CrazyBuddy Just randomly

4:26 PM
all the 94 or what? :-P

@CrazyBuddy nah, in this case I saw the post elsewhere

@Manishearth Looks like - most of 'em agree that "It's a bug" - indeed :-)

i know :)

BTW, completed astronomy imports 3rd one..
Regards (75%) goes to Chris

Great!
