@CuriousOne Hmmmm ... I'm pretty sure the proper US based funding agency to apply to for funds for a galactic accelerator is DoE rather than NSF. They generally have more money for particle physics than NSF who has to spread their budget over more fields.

1:07 AM
@dmckee Surely you mean DARPA.

user54412
A galactic accelerator just sounds too sinister.

I'm a galactic accelerator

user54412
There's really no way to respond to that.

user54412
Well, no appropriate way at least.

1:24 AM
I have that effect on people
stupefaction

1 hour later…
user116211
2:44 AM
Aha! Today is Claude Shannon's 100th birth anniversary!

4:10 AM
And my 18th! :p

5:04 AM
@BernardMeurer Awesome!!

user116211
5:46 AM
@BernardMeurer And I mentioned it for you only ;) Happy B'day, bro!

6:45 AM
Happy birthday

user116211
6:58 AM
@Slereah Darkseid... hahaha!!!

He is on Stack Exchange, too
He's always looking for the antilife equation

user116211
ooom..

user116211
@Slereah Only ACM knows the anti-life equation ;))

I'm sure it's somewhere in Bourbaki or something

user116211
@Slereah Bourbaki?

user116211
7:07 AM
The secret mathematicians' gang?

Bourbaki, the big fucking book of math proofs

user116211
:P

Well technically a series of books
I wonder if there's an all in one version
We should do a Bourbaki for GR really
No bibliographical references
Just proofs for everything

user116211
@Slereah oh.

user116211
Damn, and I am reading Courant.... shit!

user116211
7:10 AM
when would I reach at that intellect? hmmm...

user116211
@Slereah: Did you read symmetry and conservation laws of Feynman's?

@Slereah there was
I bought it ;-P

How big is this monster
Also no, I have not

26 books/fascicules

user116211
@yuggib Is there any copy at Amazon?

7:13 AM
don't know
there was the bundle at springer

I mean a number of page :p

user116211
ooh.

but the whole series is in french, only some books are translated in english

"books" isn't a standard

dunno

7:14 AM
Who cares, I am French

I know, it was for @MAFIA36790

user116211
Thanks :(

I suppose there are around 5000 pages? maybe more

user116211
Didn't they think about Non-French :((

no
in france, they never think about the non-french

user116211
7:15 AM
CRUEL ;(

We do
But then we laugh
Hon hon hon
Zese silly americans

user116211
@yuggib At least Germans aren't so.

@MAFIA36790 they haven't been at war with english-speaking countries for half their history

I have this in my old files, for some reason
(that is André Weil, of the Bourbaki)

anyways, bourbaki is perfect for math, if you're not interested in PDEs, differential geometry, or much of standard functional analysis (e.g. analysis of linear operators)

user116211
7:21 AM
Boss of Bourbaki

10:56 AM
@BernardMeurer What is the matter?

11:29 AM
Is the atomic nucleus an optimal sphere packing?

I'm...not sure what that is supposed to mean
On the quantum level, there are no little billard balls orbiting the nucleus, and the nucleus is not a bunch of spheres glued to each other.

12:15 PM
Is that you Vivec

@MAFIA36790 thanks man!
@ACuriousMind you didn't get me a gift :(

@Slereah Yes, it is me

@MAFIA36790 thanks man!

@BernardMeurer Well, you didn't get me one either! :(

You should watch out
I've killed Vivec a few times

12:25 PM
Well, maybe I deserve it for killing Nerevar

So it turns out I was the nectarine all along

12:41 PM
@ACuriousMind buy it's me birthday :(

user116211
@ACuriousMind changed his profile pic!

1:21 PM
I liked garrick better

> Bourbaki is not dead: they have published in 2012 a completely modified new version of Algèbre, Chapitre 8, about 3 times the size of the old version, published in 1958. (Recall that in 1934 they had estimated that the whole treatise would have been written within 6 months...)

user116211
@Slereah @yuggib: ^^^ ;)

user116211
Also

user116211
> The thousands of pages written by Bourbaki started as prerequisites for the proof of Stokes' theorems. Then they decided to forget about Stokes and write a treatise containing all of basic mathematics. They failed to achieve that goal too.

@MAFIA36790 I have also the new 8th chapter of algebra
;-)

user116211
@0celo7: o/

@Jiminion I can't close messages by myself. I did vote to close, but your question wasn't closed by me. Qmechanic did the deed!

@JohnRennie: hi!

Warning: To view any MathJax formula anyone may post here, use ChatJax bookmarks in your browser.
Hey guys! :D
Math is $\Bbb{fun}^{over\;9000}$, and if you don't believe me, think of it: Most, if not all games use math. Unreal Engine uses math so if you hate math but you like the UT games, I don't know you'll be capable even then of doing something useful in Unreal Editor since it uses math $often^2$.

Might you have been looking for the Game Development chatroom with that message? :P

user116211
@Gustavo6046 o.O

Also, text in TeX should be formatted with \text, the "often" just looks horrible.

ok..?
$${\text {often}} ^ 2$$
Stuff aside, I'm trying to do a formula that converts a normalized vector into a pitch+yaw+roll rotator without complicated quaternion stuff.
Think: you could rotate a object to math any surface's normal just by passing that normal through the formula! No more messing with quaternions! Yay :D
also, I did at first glance think this was a Mathematica channel, so I'm sorry. :(

5:55 PM
@Gustavo6046 actually we have better alternatives

A: Any chance of MathJax in chat?

Ilmari KaronenAs a workaround while this request is pending, there exist several client-side workarounds that can be used to enable LaTeX rendering in chat, including: ChatJax, a set of bookmarklets by robjohn to enable dynamic MathJax support in chat. Commonly used in the Mathematics chat room. An altern...
