@Chuck well, sorry for the duplicate post. I had completely forgot about the first one.
The concept of the dissertation is that a drone controlled will fly around a room while searching for an object.

so I need
a) some way to transmit directions to the drone via a computer
b) some way for the drone to aboid obstacles. the sensors I have mentioned I mean IR sensors or ultrasonic so the drone doesn't bump into objects

@MrUber - It sounds like you're looking for something like a ROS-enabled drone.
I believe that an AR Drone may be what you're looking for
I'm sure that there are other kinds of these, but the AR Parrot 2.0 drone looks to be pretty popular

@Chuck While this does seem to be close to what I need, I believe it is lacking in a specific manner. It does not have any way of knowing whether there is something in front of it, if it can go higher etc.

Since the point isn't to make it work for a specific room, I can't ask it to move straight for 2 secs and hope nothing will be there.

However, it does seem a good solution since I'm not interested that much in the hardware, rather that the software. Dunno if I could stick an arduino there with some IR or ultrasonic sensors and have the arduino tell it what to do.
