@toscho does a language link, lead to say the german version of the site, or the german version of that page?

@TomJNowell if there is a translation, it will lead to that. the main site otherwise

@Wyck Ollie and Dexter are neat employees :)

that's pretty cute

Bunch of pussies.

True True

their logo is suspicious similar to fb messengers

@TomJNowell it's a bird. can't you see that?

7:50 AM
ah yes the image is crystal clear

2 hours later…
9:35 AM
changes into a test subfolder and does a composer install via the API

9:47 AM
@TomJNowell great, thanks!

Q: I stuck a 450 V 10 µF capacitor in a 110 AC wall outlet and it exploded... why?

samwiseWhen I put it in the outlet it "popped" with some oily gray smoke. Honestly I thought that the voltage rating on the capacitor meant you could feed at least that much voltage through it, but clearly I'm missing something fundamental. I am glad I tried this with a rubber gripped wrench.

Question of the day on Electrical Engineering SE.
If that kind of exploration is engineering nowadays, then we really are doomed.

when was engineering not about blowing something up? :)

He should have used some jQuery

jQuery makes everything better
that and bluetooth or nfc

@TomJNowell is this recursively installing components?

@kaiser what do you mean?
in my test folder i've a composer.json of my own definition, I used jslint as an example dependency. My test subfolder now has a lock file and vendor subdir with an autoloader and jslint in there
the code is about 80% identical to the Install commands execute method in composer

12:35 PM
@TomJNowell looks good man... Going to try with my one-click MS installer

ok @TomJNowell what's the purpose of the whole thing?

I plan to extend it out into something you upload as a zip and it looks in the folder above and presents an install dialog
it makes it possible to composer install without knowledge of or access to the command line
and demonstrates how you might use it as the basis of an internal plugin/extension installer/updater

oh. nice

imagine if the plugin API didnt actually install things, it just called a composer API

:) your code is much better than my hackish shell-exec stuff I currently have, I guess you don't mind if I use it

12:42 PM
the problem with shell exec stuff is that some shared hosts disable phar packages
e.g. dreamhost, which makes auto deployment via composer on there impossible using shellexec
not without rebuilding and using a custom PHP binary which is a faff to do

right.
but a good idea to follow, and eric mann has something similiar in mind: eamann.com/tech/plugin-repositories

@ungestaltbar which basically translates to him not using composer or wanting to use it
the PHP world already has a standardised package management and repository system, he just wont admit it

maybe he is too close to core.

Nacin had a healthier attitude towards composer than most of the people in core at one point

1:38 PM
hi everybody

2:06 PM
"WordPress is not built for developers." can we make that the headline of WPSE?

sure. just fork the "WordPress Development" repo on GitHub and send us a SVN patch on Trac.

i'll ask on the main site how to do that

don't forget to read How to Ask

thanks

n/p

2:10 PM
I guess there is a plugin with some jquery already

maybe. lmgtfy lmsotfy
ok, no. just ask on the main site
don't forget to tag it properly. examples:

so ive been looking for a tail for windows and I settle on a piece of software - last release date was in 2006 , works awesome

there is get-content in windows power(s)hell

yes but I wanted pretty colors so I can ignore strict warnings, etc. I find now on php5.5 I get too many errors to sift through in a text editor
what do you guys use

@Wyck define( 'WP_DEBUG', false );

2:21 PM
well either fix strict warnings or remove error reporting for them

@kaiser lol
@ungestaltbar I do that too but changing settings and shit is annoying

Is it possible, outside of WordPress to check the current version of a specific plugin? Like is there an API?
Nevermind, API was the word I was looking for :D
http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress.org_API

7:32 PM
apparently I tweet at a 9th grade level beakscore.com

7th ....

7:46 PM
My “unsmartest tweet” was actually a semantic joke. I think they are just counting brackets.

7:57 PM
ya it's not very smart there is no context

8:23 PM
Is there some sort of cache or something for registered widget areas?
I've removed the code which registers the widget areas, and unregistered these widget areas, but they just keep appearing under WP ADMIN -> APPEARANCE -> WIDGETS

8:59 PM
how exactly do you push up changes to your server?
