@Rarst what a fantastic idea!

3 hours later…
oh my
data-cfasync=false

?

lost me on context. I hadn't had tea...

I do not function without morning tea... I know where you are coming from. Go drink, be free.

@Rarst Ah, thanks, I had to update my old answer for defer attributes.

@userabuser I took a sip of tea and got it

hehe

10:27 AM
first sudden ssd death finally happened
coming back from suspend, suddenly no drive visible
fortunately a full backup from a month ago, due to another btrfs scare i had
really have got to improve backup strategy

going to leave my computer on forever

yeah, like airplanes. should mostly worry about takeoff and landing..

hmm... or being shot down.

ugh, month stings! I do daily differential, full copy every 7th day, keep 4 full copies
for specific stuff that is. Windows does whatever it does for system drive overall

@Rarst What are using for backup?

10:32 AM
Cobian

laptop should be raid 1, too. unfortunately no room available once you put in the 3G card
or, cellular rather

heh, my laptop is RAID 0 :) yeeehaaa...

perverse thing. I like it.

totally buying this

My backups: Time Machine and Backblaze for constant backups, weekly full disk replication -> bootable external disk using SuperDuper
Feels very secure when it comes to hard disk / computer failures now

Backup?

it's what people, who cannot replicate every line of code they ever written from their memory, do. don't worry about it.

@anu Interesting, Backblaze, unlimited data... Might have to check that out.

@userabuser yeah, it's pretty good. You could also look at carbonite / crashplan - they do something similar, but I'm pretty happy with backblaze. It's purely for data though - doesn't let you back up system files, etc

@anu Read a review from a guy who used both crashplan and then backblaze for a significant enough period, he pointed out some pretty decent shortfalls which were good to know but other than that seems pretty good, for data only is fine, I have other mechanisms for restoring OS and critical tools from images.

@userabuser yeah, I use it as my backup of last resort - offsite, data will be available if something really bad happens. For day to day use, I generally rely on Time Machine and bootable image where necessary

11 hours later…
11:23 PM
We should have an award for that

30 days vacation?

hehe
