@blackbird57 When I visit Samarkand later this year, I'll take some bartering lessons from the locals and then purchase a few rugs. As mentioned in comments to your question, my own method is far to eccentric to be useful on a broad scale.

@GayotFow I never use a jig for TH knots, but working around a tube makes the bigger ones easier. Learn to enlarge TH from the basic models and you can make a lot of them without jigs. This form page is about that: igkt.net/sm/index.php?topic=4608.0

@Willeke I use my hand for a 3-strand monkey fist, but go to a full jig for everything else :(

@GayotFow Monkeys fists are rather finicky, hard to hold at the best of times and difficult to get right when they do mess up. TH are much easier to control once the basic structure is there.
