Q: Does the US governmental shutdown affect traveling to/from the US and if so, how?

andraWhen the news announced the US governmental shutdown today, it was also mentioned that tourists might be affected as well. The example that was given is that the national parks will be closed. Is that it, or will I notice other effects, such as no public transport, longer delays at the airport, ...

so that question was about the government shutdown in 2013, as was the answer. but now the answer has been update to be about the (completely different, and didn't happen) DHS shutdown in 2015
to me, that's wrong and the answer should be rolled back, and a new question asked/answered. anyone agree/disagree?

@Doc totally agree, the only change should be altering the title to include "2013", and then removing the post notice "Post is related to a rapidly changing event". A new question should be asked as you suggested indicating the date.

9:19 AM
@MeNoTalk you mean adding the notice?

9:49 AM
@JoErNanO removing the notice.. the notice gives the impression that this answer should be updated whenever the "event" has changed...
so, as long as the notice is there, then the update makes sense.. somehow..

@MeNoTalk ah I take it that notice is already there. I can't see it via the android app.

@GayotFow In the absence of @MarkMayo 's friend's response, I added an answer sumarising the results of my research on the topic. No first-hand experience there. ;)

Q: Air travel with a stoma (ileostomy or colostomy)

Gayot FowA stoma is a surgically inserted hole in your stomach through which urine and faeces can exit your body. It's part of the operation where your bladder or colon gets removed. There are approximately 102,000 such people in the UK alone. If you Google for 'stoma', don't look at the images (if you...

what's new?

Not much. I'm trying to stay in the competitions by answering all the questions I can.
That's what free time does to you. :)
You?

Sounds like you're having a blast.

I finally managed to do some travelling: I came to edinburgh to see the rugby match, and Italy won. All in all it was a very productive weekend.

where are you from?

Italy.

aha well that sounds like a change then

It is if you consider i've been working nonstop since September. Setting aside a couple days over Chritmas, the only travel I got to do was driving to and from work.
:)

well spring is coming

Is this question fit for TSE standards? I'm sort of asking for recommendations hence the doubt.

Q: Three-hour layover in Paris CDG connecting with a TGV train, where should I wait?

JoErNanOI am taking the AirFrance TGVAir plane+train combined ticket, and I have a three-hour layover in Paris Charles de Gaulle before I can board my train from CDG (yes CDG does indeed have a high-speed train (TGV) station). I am thinking about where it would be best for me to kill off those three hour...

recommendation questions have to be very narrow and specific and not have easy to find answers
basically they have to approximate a question that has "one right answer"

Can you provide an example of a good recommendation question?

6:05 PM
have a look through the tagged questions

Hi!

Hi!
What is the purpose of the tag?

6:27 PM
the system adds it when there are no tags, usually happens when the question is migrated from another site i think

6:39 PM
Ok. I retagged that one untagged question.

@JoErNanO +1, looks really great, thanks!

My pleasure. I learned a bunch of stuff today. :) I couldn't find any decent statistics on stoma bags failure due to cabin pressurisation though.

7:08 PM
@JoErNanO Nobody has related that they inflate like a balloon. Like the urban legend about the woman who wore falsies and then they exploded. Nobody reports something like that. It's the change in humidity that affects the adhesive sometimes.

Doc
yay to the crazyness that is airline prices

Other good tip to consider adding to your answer: drink only cranberry juice. carry your own or ask them to provide it
it's recommended.

Doc
yesterday i purchased a trip to singapore (17,000 miles return), and it was like $800. today I'm looking at tickets to vancouver (1,600 miles return), and they are like $800

because for some reason, urine from cranberry juice doesn't smell.
is that profound trivia or WHAT :)

@GayotFow I added some authoritative references from medical journals.

7:13 PM
@JoErNanO I should probably accept it. It's a great answer anyway

The adhesive must be affected by the humidity as you mention. Sweat from (understandably) stressing out over flying with a stoma must also come into play.
Wait for @MarkMayo 's friend maybe.
All the issues I found online were related to pressure though. Meaning that there must be a way of securing the bag by reinforcing the attachments, which is sadly only verifiable by personal experience.

I think Mark's friend got cold feet or too bashful

if you want any of those articles I quoted, give me a shout and I'll send them over via email. ;)

I am going to post the link in my stoma FB groups :)

Ah damn that will make me accountable. :)
Joking of course, go ahead. I welcome feedback.

7:41 PM
@Gagravarr Thanks for the answer. On the forward journey the train arrival time was spot on, so I ended up spending three hours in CDG airside waiting for my boarding time. That was comfortable however since the international terminals at CDG are well equipped (Wifi, benches, power outlets, etc). The TGV station not so much. :)

Doc
well.. that depends on which terminal you're in

Maybe you're right. To be fair I only ever recall flying from T2.

Q: Travel ban from immigration

Nazir Ibrahim KhanI was on Jebel Ali free zone visa from April 1996 and was working with Jebel Ali based company. My company was sisters concern company of national paints. During the year 2006, I have been terminated due to some problems with management. My visa was expired on 2008 and after that I was not on any...

This is the hardest 2 points for editing that I've ever seen!
The user fixed a whole post
The result is STILL an incoherent rant, but WOW the edit job is remarkable!

9:09 PM
@GayotFow Yup that was an effort. Unless he used an automatic tool.
In which case he should nevertheless be praised for willingness to fix the question in the first place.

@JoErNanO With KLM it works like this, if you have an ongoing train journey, you need to go to train station with your ticket and get your train ticket. It is there where you can ask if it is okay to take an earlier train
I don't know how it works with Air France in Paris, hence my response here ;)

9:42 PM
@andra Thanks for the advice. I will definitely try to board the earlier train. I hate wasting my life waiting for connections.

Doc
that's why you need lounge access... :)

@Doc nah lounge access would not help you getting connecting flighttrains

Yup. Plus the cdg tgv station barely qualifies as such since it's main purpose is do throughput people to and from Paris via the rer.

@GayotFow @JoErNanO shift+F3 in word if I remember correctly will do the job and change all CAPS to lower.
