I got the treasure hunter hat,, and it looks cool on me

2 hours later…
3:24 AM
@MarkMayo Need to be a question worth answering. :)

3:50 AM
yo

>infrastructure. >palestinian authority. heh, good joke. upvote. — easymoden00b 14 hours ago
hmmmm
@Karlson questions not worth answering from newbies can be put on hold until they are worth it :D

5:11 AM
@MarkMayo I know you were not one of those to close travel.stackexchange.com/questions/39891/… but to me that is a lot less welcoming than travel.stackexchange.com/questions/39873/….

5 hours later…
10:26 AM
@RoflcoptrException This registration plate question is driving me crazy. Been searching for Liechtenstein-related information for 24 hours now. No luck.

10:38 AM
I got 19 hats, I just need an android and an iPhone and I will be able to get 3 or 4 easy hats..

buy one :)

Or buy 3 or 4 real hats.

real hats are overrated :)

@pnuts neither is great. helpful comments are always preferred with a close for new people. Sure if theyve been a member for a year and have rep, dumb questions can be slammed, however :D
I've been working on expats hats for a bit, am top there now, back to travel

11:08 AM
@Dirty-flow Mod hats are cool :-)
@MarkMayo yeah - I had never heard of it - although it turns out a mate of mine has that. He never realised that everyone didn't - was astonished when the news articles came out

has it? you mean he gets 'chills'?
Oddly, I have what I call my 'travel chills'. happens every so often, first time was on a boat from Vienna to Bratislava, with a hangover, and I'm on deck in the sun thinking about what everyone else must be doing - at work or wahtever, and I'm hopping on a boat to a new country. And I got these great chills up my back, and I sat back and smiled. Travel Chills.

@MarkMayo the thing described in the article. I don't know what it is.

yeah. I tried listening to her voice and it's a little weird - especially with my headphones it's like she's whispering in my ear. But no chills down my back yet.

Q: Is there a list of words or themes that will get you thrown off a plane in the US?

Mark MayoI'm wondering if there's a definitive list or collection of things you should never say on a plane - eg words that if heard, will definitely get you removed, due to a rule or airline policies? I think lately there are some fairly obvious ones not to say like 'I have Ebola' but is lee-way allowed...

@MeNoTalk hoping you may know this one
if anyone is looking to make a bounty to get a hat, can someone bounty the teletext in Romania question? I totally just found an answer :D

11:35 AM
@MarkMayo I'll go do it. Already have the hat, but hey

There's another hat for bounty+1
but I'm not sure if that's for giving or receiving

hang on - you got a link? can't seem to find it

Q: Teletext Subtitles on Romanian Television

AlexThere is a teletext feature on the televisions in the hotel rooms. In England there was a way to get subtitles to appear by going to the teletext interface and entering 888. As far as I know this is no longer available. In Romania, is there a special code you can enter into the teletext interfac...

@MarkMayo and bounty is applied!

awesome
thanks
although I guess you can't award for a day anyway
so we'll have to wait and see if there's a hat for either
Can't believe I read a report to find that answer

11:39 AM
@MarkMayo heh

@MarkMayo Seems likely any answers would be highly anecdotal - or is getting thrown off a plane a possible replacement for collecting hats when these are out of season?

@pnuts I'm hoping that when airline staff are trained, there's a list of words or themes (eg any synonym for hijack or bomb) that would be 'alert' lists. So in that case it would be objective
anyone here ever been thrown off a plane?
I bet @MeNoTalk must have thrown someone off at one point

no, he's such a nice person, he would never do something like that

@RoryAlsop ah, it got me the 'Major Award' hat. All you need to do is get an upvoted answer on a question with a bounty

Seems unlikely to be any "hard and fast" rules anywhere, IMO. Not been thrown off but was on the point of offering to throw someone else off (who was reaching for the emergency exit in mid air saying he would rather get off then than have to travel in Economy (?!))

11:43 AM
so if anyone else wants it, there are currently like 10 open bounties
@pnuts (change in topic) my understanding is that it's impossible to open the emegency exit at altitude?
something about pressurization?
@Dirty-flow 19

I knew it

I think it should be 'impossible' but pressurisation has cabin pressure greater than outside and doors open outwards.

maybe we should ask a question :)

If so, on Aviation I'd hope. The "doors to manual" part should be the safety feature.

quickly googling, it seems that it is indeed impossible
'get 5 answers in 30 minutes' - assuming that's on your own question, that's going to be pretty hard

11:58 AM
or we cheat the system and delete the crap after that
but that's not the right way
btw I asked the snow chains question just to get a hat, but it's really successful - 1950 views and 12 votes so far, and it still atracts attention

@MarkMayo I am have asleep, but I tried to answer to my best.

Nice :)

And yes, I have thrown passengers off planes, but falls under unruly passengers only once for security, and it was the famous joke about bombs

idiots

Ooh one other time about a passenger who insisted on visiting the cockpit, we had the security wait for him by the time we landed.

12:08 PM
also can you confirm it's impossible to open the cabin door in the air?

Yes impossible
Above 14,000 feet. Below that if the locks are damaged it is possible
Depending on the plane type.
Actually, there is a procedure for opening the door during the flight !!

all boeing and airbus would fit that though
oh really??
that a passenger could do??

In case of smoke, if there was a fire and we managed to put it off, but dense smoke is present, we can open first door and last door in the same side to allow the smoke to get out. Of course it is done below 14,000 feet
It's a long procedure I just said the important parts.. Again, not on all aircrafts, only in old ones..
That would make a nice question actually 😊
"can you open the door during a flight in case of smoke"
Or similar..

'can you open the door during a flight if you'd like some fresh air?' ;)

Actually, not on travel.se, on aviation.se

12:18 PM
(to stop the smoke of course)
yeah it's more on topic for aviation

And who told u it never happened! Yesterday a Chinese passenger opened the emergency door prior to take off for "fresh air"
Never underestimate a Chinese who feels hot..
Guys, be nice and downvote my answer..
I can't write bad answers, hahahaha.. So I need ur help in downvoting one of my answers.

not that one
I want it to do well :D

Don't let the hat jealousy makes you forget our old friendship
:D

HATS!
I found one that doesn't add much, I think if you delete it as well there's another hat ;)

@MarkMayo I know you are dying for a gold badge and I can get you that 😏

12:27 PM
how so? I can't see any that I'm even close to :(
I got the Legendary badge last week, why couldn't that have been this week...after 3.5 years

Q: 2FABE - the 'secret' international travel postcard stamp code?

Mark MayoI was told about this about three years ago, that if you were desperate and didn't have time to buy stamps for a postcard, merely putting the code '2FABE' would get your postcard to its intended destination. Sceptical at the time, I searched for it on Google and found nothing. Now searching for...

Less than 2k views..
And the other one about least use full passport..
I'll share in fb. You put it in reddit

I'm dubious, but will try on reddit
It'll get views, but not necessarily votes
more chance if a question goes hot (eg words banned on flight)

You need 10,000 views to get a gold badge..

alternatively if anyone hasn't upvoted it already, I'd appreciate it ;)
or 25 upvotes

That's a silver badge for 25 votes
A 100 for gold

12:37 PM
ah true

Damn it
I found an easy way for your gold badge 😉

oh?

3 more answers on any air-travel tagged questions. And you will have 200 answers! To get the tag gold badge

@JoErNanO Me too, I still think the question is lacking a definitive answer

heads to

12:39 PM
My 50 cents
What's more important @MarkMayo I the powers you will have on that tag when you get the gold badge..

haha

Your vote will be enough to close questions in that tag

hazzah! I have one badge that Mark doesn't! ;-)

@Dirty-flow 21 :D

@Gagravarr he will get it just by thinking about it..

12:46 PM
@MeNoTalk that is power! :D
@Gagravarr gah, need to find an iPhone

or an ipad!
or possibly a simulator...

indeed
amusingly, you can't have 20 badges

He said badge, not a hat..

hats
like me, I suspect he mixes them up

I'm stood on my head at the moment, it's a risk...
at least I'm dodging the drop bears ;-)

12:48 PM
sigh, a downvote on the word list question
what city?
I just left Sydney last night

brissie

Yea, when u get 20 hats, you will have a hat automatically for having 20 hats.. Which makes them 21

ah

but head up to the sunshine coast tomorrow

nice!
ah, word list question is now on the hotlist :D

12:49 PM
1.5 weeks there, then up to cairns to go diving for a few days, then the shock of returning to europe...

yeah that'll hurt

where are you now?

Christchurch
(NZ)

bit cooler than sydney?

to say the least ;)
although 22, 24, and 27 next 3 days, so that's a lot better
:D

12:55 PM
I need 3 more votes on the word list question.. And an iPhone and an android and will have 23 hats..

Man this year you are not going to beat me in hats..
Look at us, adults who talk about silly imaginary virtual hats...

What more hats do you need mark, to get to the top?

really, really wish there was a tag-wiki hat

naruto might be possible somewhere very quiet

12:59 PM
well network wide just means I should go to some other SE sites and get them there
some of them are pretty easy
(goes to add bounties across the network)

red shirt should be possible fairly soon
just wait for a few more bad visa questions ;-)

3 bounties added elsewhere, will see if that gets me something
yeah what defines a 'bad question' for that?

Red Shirt

cast 5 downvotes on posts that are later deleted or closed

@MeNoTalk yeah I thought you wouldn't like the mohammed thing. Don't blame the answer, blame the source ;)
but do realise the author surveyed hundreds of people in America on what they thought was enough to get thrown off a flight, and even after taking that list, he goes to great pains to say it shouldn't be like that

I know
21 hats...
Only mark to beat..

1:09 PM
so @Dirty-flow has slipped to 3rd? ;)

Both of us are on 21.i still haven't got any ios or Droid hats.. And they are 4

I'm on 22 on my screen
it's showing you on 18 and @Dirty-flow on 19

mark - if you send me your username, password and 20 bucks I'll log you in on my ipad ;-)

I could do it for... 19

I'd do it if it wasn't my google account that I log in with ;)

1:12 PM
the east europeans love price dumping

10 bucks and you promise not to change the password for at least 30 minutes... ;-)

@Gagravarr if your ears are burning, I'm discussing you in expats chat

20 bucks can buy a Chinese phone with android, and a tv antenna and a washing machine..

or a russian iphone this morning, before they stopped selling them due to the currency...

A Russian iPhone! Never heard of that
Can I run the android app on an emulator?
Is that possible?

1:19 PM
@MeNoTalk yes it's possible, I believe

some apps detect and abort, but I think many work fine

I guess there is an emulator in VS 2013..
I will check after I take a nap

2015 I thought?
the beta
could be wrong

The 2013 community version does i believe

cool
gah, want the overall leaderboard to refresh, I think I'm now tie 1st

1:24 PM
@MarkMayo your list question is on the hot list.. And I guess your answer which has (mohammed, allah) will attract the same kind of people who voted for these words in the first place..

@MeNoTalk yeah it's on the front page
While that's possible, I'd be going for the answer from the flight staff member - that's surely to top a survey

I need to ask a question and answer it to get a hat. I can't think of any..

that smoke one?
about opening a door

No
Aviation question

we do have some overlap

1:26 PM
something about if Heathrow or Frankfurt really close at night?
something about warm towels?

Heathrow doesn't, I can answer that :
:)

Wasn't that asked?

a lot of people think Heathrow does

The hot towels one?

a friend live-blogged for 24 hours in heathrow once when he got the wrong day for his flight :)

1:27 PM
there's a huge "debate" on flyertalk at the moment about emirates

I actually have a question now

something about if they really pay full rate for their planes and landing fees?

@Gagravarr have u ever been served a cold towel on a flight?

@MeNoTalk yes
pretty sure it was supposed to be warm
but it wasn't...

1:29 PM
No, cold as in ice cold?

oh, like you get in some gyms? nope

We do it where I work

how about: can you get through immigration drunk?

damn, that network wide list is for unique hats. So someone has 27 unique ones!

eg after they are overly good at topping up your glass

1:30 PM
oooh, I like the drunk one

qatar, I'm looking at you
3 times as many drinks runs with the champagne bottle as the water bottle...

In hot says for noon flights

but it'd depend on what you define as 'drunk' and would be too broad unless you specify a country

australia, many times over the drink/drive limit

I know I did once.. When I used to drink..

1:32 PM
what about - will any airline let you ride with the pilot the whole flight (for money or favour)

Immigration for departure and arrival!
Everyone knows its not possible
To ride with the pilots

Mohammad Irfan just got Taylor out in the NZ cricket game
some people believe if I said that on a plane, I'd be thrown off ;)

Cricket? Yes you would...

hahaha

😉

1:33 PM
Cricket world cup starts in just under two months, can't wait :D

I never understood it, never will...

you must have some friends from the indian sub-continent? can't they explain it to you?
assuming no willing antipodeans or windies types get there first!

there was a tea-towel that was started in the 1970s with an explanation on it (thanks England)
It went something like this (and doesn't help at all):
You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out.

When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay all out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out.

@Gagravarr not interested actually..
It's a violent game, hitting a poor ball with sticks. What a shame! --> BS
@MarkMayo I have 23 hats now!!!!

2:14 PM
@MeNoTalk overall or just on travel?
because you have 2 hats ( for downvotes) that you have on SO but not on travel

6 hours later…
8:34 PM
I am a student from India, I want to travel to nepal for a week. I said student because of low budget. Any advice?

9:13 PM
@Dirty-flow only the red shirt is missing on travel.

9:35 PM
@MeNoTalk 21 according to the travel leaderboard: winterbash2014.stackexchange.com/leaderboard/…
@WannaBeCoder where are you headed in Nepal? There's a lot to do or see...
