Q: What chemicals does airport security use as markers?

JerryI recently travelled to the USA from Asia. When I arrived in Detroit they marked my E-cigarette with a clear colorless liquid using a small paint brush used for water colors. What chemical(s) do they use as markers?

I wish someone could answer this question. I've searched so much, and still found nothing! I was even able to find some stuff on wikileaks, but still nothing. :'(

I think you will not be able to find it online, whatever they are using must be a secret, if its known bad guys can make something to overcome this...

4:55 AM
@MeNoTalk I don't want to find what the element is, I just want to know what this whole thing is called. It has never been done to me and I have not been able to find anywhere else what the procedure is called
For instance,
Explosives trace detectors (ETD) are security equipment able to detect explosives of small magnitude. The detection can be done by sniffing vapors as in an explosive vapor detector or by sampling traces of particulates or by utilizing both methods depending on the scenario. Most explosive detectors in the market today can detect both vapors and particles of explosives. Devices similar to ETDs are also used to detect narcotics. The equipment is used mainly in airports and other vulnerable areas considered susceptible to acts of unlawful interference. == Characteristics == === Sensitivity...
Explosive trace detection is a proper procedure, I'm sure that this is a proper procedure too, even if the chemicals are a closely guarded secret...

It's called random liquid something :D
It was not done for me, but I am sure I have seen agents walking in the terminal and taking samples of peoples coffee and stuff..

Cool my road proposal on area 51 is still gaining momentum. It still needs more attention, so anyone?

7:07 AM
@andra I don't mind a On the Road site, but you were the one who regretted Travel.SE, Expat.SE and Outdoors.SE not being a single site... :/

@adityaSomani There is regret and general opinion
The "community" clearly demands a over classification of problems
and asking on travel.se if driving slower affects traffic jams will be closed immediatly

lol True.
Alright. Following now. :D!

@drat The plot thickens. National Rail says there simply are no trains from Holyhead to Manchester on the 7th of August, and offers me trains on the 8th instead. Arriva Trains Wales says there are.
But no direct trains any more. There used to be.
