I think one of the cooler things about knowing other languages, and perhaps Japanese in particular because it's so different, is that when other's form really broken English sentences, you can sort of see why they would think that was correct.. Anyone else had this thought?

Very much so. But I do a ton of interpreting broken English for my coworkers. :)

"why are you think study Japanese??" - Now my Japanese is just as bad, but this would probably be something like 「どうして日本語を勉強しようと思っています」, no? And well, 思う, to think.. The rest of the wrongs in that sentence probably just came from general confusion. :P

Japanese has a 'native' core, invaded by Chinese and (more recently) English imports... the rough edges between them causes most of the problems.

I don't know Japanese well enough to know why it's screwed up.. But one thing I always struggle with is when there's like "connected verbs".. not sure if that makes any sense.. "to continue drinking", or maybe in Japanese "drinking sufficiently"（足りる？）.. 飲み？　飲むの？　飲んで？ etc.. I doubt I'm making much sense now but it's really hard to explain.. 続けて飲む.. why て, why 続ける first.. ugh

because te-form is awesome? maybe? I've given up on trying to figure these things out in my head

Poor France voted in a socialist, and then watches him start campaigning for austerity. Which honestly isn't any worse than people who voted against "warmonger" McCain. Gitmo? open and operating, Afghanistan? still there, Iraq? we left on Bush's schedule, President personally selecting US citizens to be killed without trial? we actually got WORSE under Obama. I've put a negative spin on these, but I'm trying to figure out how McCain would actually have been worse on any of these.

I despised McCain for the McCain/Feingold Incumbant Protection Act, the worst attack on free speech I think we've ever had. (Which, honestly... trumped all other concerns) I think it's technically called 'campaign finance reform', or something like that.

@snailplane I actually sat out that election. I saw right through Obama, but could not actually support McCain. Given this year's VP debate performance, however... I pray for the health and well-being of President Obama until he leaves office in January of 2017.

Of course, that was quite predictable.. I mean you can't expect that much change to happen in 4 years. Though I remember four years ago, we actually had a comedian duo covering the American election live on Swedish TV.. (yes, America kind of is the world's 'reality tv show', sorry).. It was quite exciting.
