I never really got why people leave comments complaining about downvotes. Or even bother monitoring them.

It usually smells like, that they're hoping that others passing by will see the complaint and upvote to cancel the reputation hit.

You might get 2-3 such upvotes, actually.

@oals I don't know, not wanting downvotes seems pretty standard to me.

I might blog/meta about this, but basically, when I answer, I take pride in what I write. If someone dislikes it, I would want to know why, and if possible improve.

I had previously tried searching for "serial downvoting" in this chat room and on meta. The hits I got didn't indicate that mods had their hands tied. It's only when I just searched for "serial" that I found chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/25691017#25691017

At work, a small group of us have one day a week where we speak Japanese over lunch.

The problem is, it's hard to find things to talk about that we know how to say, because our Japanese is not that strong. There are long silences.

@DanHulme That seems like a great habit. Maybe you could compile a list of topics beforehand to help improve the flow of the discussion?
