Oh no, I got struck by the dreaded avatar colour change.
Well, not just the colours. The thing looks quite a bit different altogether.
I liked the old violet-ish colour.

A: Why did my avatar change?

OriolIt seems a gravatar problem, not related to Stack Overflow. Your big avatar (https://www.gravatar.com/avatar/efef01b733b5e8af2d8670efe6990e90?s=328&d=identicon&r=PG) is bright green: Your small avatar (https://www.gravatar.com/avatar/efef01b733b5e8af2d8670efe6990e90?s=32&d=identicon&r=PG) is ...

I notice 永劫回帰 has a different colour too.

げっ、アバター、ツズキに戻したのに、
チャットではまだこんなんなってる!

It looks really odd having your nick paired with my avatar
I first thought someone else on SE had gotten my avatar by chance. (Gravatar error or something.)

「これはまさに自虐ネタであるそうだ。」 -> is the use of そうだ correct here? It seems to be used strictly for personal conjecture in this example but isn't this incorrect usage in this case? From japanese.stackexchange.com/questions/38854/…

2:39 PM
@Ciaran For personal conjecture, you'd use ありそうだ, not あるそうだ

user219587
@chocolate Yeah, that's what I'm confused about, because in that passage it seems like the meaning is conjectural, i.e. something like "it seems like an embarrassing situation for him" rather than "I've heard ...".

Yeah, あるそうだ is like, "I hear~~" or "They say~~"

Q: What happens when you vote up comments?

PabloWhat happens when you vote up comments? Does it give points or something?

@Ciaran これはまさに自虐ネタであるそうだ <- literally, "They say it(=this article) is a/their(=the publisher's/the student's father's) self-deprecating joke."
We don't know who the first "They" refers to.
But, the writer is saying "あるそうだ", knowing that it means "They say" or "I hear", not "I think" or "It seems like"
Maaybe the writer heard it from someone... but who knows...

Oh, thanks :-) I'm happy I got elected on ELL! I'm going to be making more time for Stack Exchange for both sites. By the way, did you know @Earthliŋ is a moderator on other sites, too?
