You guys should check out the ergodox keyboard

Are we still on keyboards?
I thought we just kind of drifted away from that.
Also, ergodox looks awful.
Not so much because it's a split keyboard; if it works, it works, I suppose.
But $295? That's excessive.
That's aggressively, offensively excessive.
Das Keyboard is brand-driven rather than market-driven, and even they don't do more than $130.

ssb
it's always time to talk about mechanical keyboards
2

Sure.
But again, charging $300, or as close to it as makes no odds, is still kind of offensive.

ssb
well, there are plenty of people who take their mechanical keyboards very seriously
a popular option is to buy an ergodox kit and assemble it yourself
much cheaper

How much cheaper?

I'm trying to find out how much it went for last time it was on massdrop
$200? possibly

That's still pretty egregious.
(Williham said, having recently purchased a Mac Pro for some $3500)
Wait, what?
Much better.

ssb
the world of boutique mechanical keyboards is an expensive one in general
but you do get things like build quality and programmability, flexibility with switch types, etc.

ssb
if you want expensive, just find the people who spend hundreds on keycaps alone

And if you want to spend $300, I'm not going to physically tackle you in order to keep you from doing it.
But it seems to me like this particular company is not acting fairly in the market, or whatever.
It's like Monster selling HDMI cables at a 7000 % percent markup because they have gold plated connectors.
Sure, if that works for you, whatever.
But you're being taken for a ride, and that's a thing I feel you should at least know.

ergodox? it's the most popular split/ergonomic keyboard out there with a reputation for high quality among people who care about these things
I don't have an ergodox, so
but I will soon have my 4th mechanical keyboard

Well, if it works for you.
@ssb :)
I'm going to go to bed.

ssb
i've only averaged 1 per year though so I'm doing ok
sure, good night!

Wait, 1 keyboard/yr?

ssb
yeah, since I got my first one

I'm a moderately heavy typist, and I go through one every five years or so.
So, yeah, no, seriously, if your keyboard lasts for a year you'll want a refund.

Not wearing them out, just to enjoy having different sizes/types of keyboards. I have one that I keep in my bag and this next one I'll be using at work

aThat makes more sense.
Actual bed time for real now.
