I hope we can all thank jkerian for all the moderating he did over the last three years, too :-)

I am glad I get to take a break from it though
Honestly speaking, I did my best moderating before I was moderator
(all the FAQ stuff)

@jkerian thanks for being our mod for the past years! and especially for all the FAQ stuff

There's another class of questions that appear quite often: relative clause formation type questions. Would it help to gather them under a community wiki?
I've been thinking if it helps to have textbook style guides as community wikis on the main site for some common grammar points that keep coming up every now and then

At some point I actually want to try to write some tag wikis.

SE works on specific questions/answers, so I'm not sure if a broad wiki would fit on this site
maybe I'll try one out and see how the community responds

@Flaw This was my attempt to explain relative clauses in general: japanese.stackexchange.com/a/14550/1478

@Flaw I'm not sure exactly what you have in mind with the community wiki thing, but there are a few things people have done over on ELL to collect information in one place

One idea people came up with is a Canonical Post: ell.stackexchange.com/q/13255/230

5:48 AM
Hm... for example we have lots of questions on nominalising

Anonymous
This is a really long post that tries to cover one topic (perfect constructions) in general

and almost all can be answered by "の(or another nominaliser) nominalises it"
so we could create a mini grammar lesson on a wiki and direct all questions of that class to it

Ahh, I see

like a "master duplicate"

Anonymous
Maybe that's kind of like the Canonical Post idea

Where the other questions can be closed as a duplicate of the canonical one

Q: What is a canonical question/answer, and what is their purpose?

guest271314Question: What is a canonical question/answer, and what is their purpose? Here is wikipedia's definition of "canonical": Canonical is the adjective for canon, literally a 'rule', and has come to mean also 'standard', 'archetypal', 'typical', or 'unique distinguished exemplar'. They are...

Anonymous
That's from Stack Overflow

then the issue is to decide which one is the canonical post

Anonymous
If there isn't a suitable one, we can create a new one :-)

Because of how questions are treated specifically here, the answers take a little bit of effort to generalise
if we could replace specific parts of a answer with placeholders to give it a higher abstraction, we could turn it into a general answer
probably only works if that grammar point doesn't have too many exception cases to handle

A: Usage of ~を好き outside of embedded clauses

Darius Jahandarie日本語の初心者ですが、日本語文法は何年も勉強していて、この質問に答えられると思っています。 :D I think this is fundamentally not something unique to 「好き」 and 「嫌い」. Let me start by expanding the scope of your question: the other questions you linked to explain why 「が」 can turn into 「を」 under 「〜と[certain verbs]」; they did not explain why thi...

勉強になりました。

Laughed out loud at this part. But somehow I can totally imagine someone saying that (@_@)
I wonder what would happen if 天皇陛下 had lice. Maybe honorification will overflow and transfer over to the lice. lol
