@Scimonster I was fairly unimpressed with this whole situation. A new user shouldn't be badgered with close votes on what rubs you the wrong way. If you want to point out our policy on p'sak in a comment, fine, but if we want to encourage people to stay, that isn't a good way to go.

I think your own question record (example and example and example) shows that you don't feel that "If someone" is a necessary part of a non-p'sak seeking question.

@yEz I don't see how "if someone" improves this question at all. It was fine and free of chechash pesak when it started, and introducing an unnecessarily explicit hypothetical actor is just awkward

@IsaacMoses I agree completely. I couldn't fathom why anyone was giving the OP a hard time.

@IsaacMoses I third that.

@yEz @IsaacMoses @msh210 I apologize for that then. I guess i should have used the friendly-reminder comment instead of the please-edit comment.

@Scimonster I agree that a friendly reminder of "make sure to consult
..." would be fitting here

I am back from my cheirem
a bit like a tzaraat. Bad talk made me have to spend 7 days outside the camp..

Hey everyone, check out the new Stack Egg game! Let's play, and get Mi Yodeya on the leaderboard!

I'm pretty sure that query is composed correctly :)

Does Judaism affirm the pre-existence of the soul? I'll ask on the main site if necessary, but I was hoping I could get a quick answer here.

yEz
6:24 PM
@IsaacMoses and that only because he is a new user who might as well be aware of that when asking a question (IMO).
@Mr.Bultitude can you define pre-existence in this context?

6:37 PM
@yEz I'm referring to the belief that every person's soul existed before their conception.

yEz
@Mr.Bultitude I think there are many indications that that is true. I have to run now but I'll be back later.
@CashCow I assume that means you did teshuva also?

@yEz I think such a reminder is rarely out-of-place on a Halacha question, especially one framed as practically as this one.

@Mr.Bultitude A worthy enough question for the main site. But the short answer is yes, in many sources you will find that, but it isn't universal. jewishencyclopedia.com/articles/12340-preexistence-of-the-soul

Q: What's with the "Stack Egg" icon on the main page?

DanFI started noticing a "Stack Egg" pic on the main site on the right side. What's this about?

Why didn't revisions 2 and 3 combine? They are within 5 minutes

@DoubleAA Rounding? They were within five minutes and some seconds from each other (just guessing).

A: Was the 5 minute edit grace period removed?

Shog9The grace period has not been removed. However, it will end early in a couple of new scenarios. The altered behavior follows from this discussion and this feature request: Edits will be rolled into the previous revision if the previous revision was created by the same author and none of the...

Do questions have to be in order? Like, can i randomly go ask about 498 without bugging people?

8:25 PM
@Scimonster Interesting. I think I approve.
@Scimonster If you skip to the round numbers then there's no incentive to do the random ones.

@DoubleAA Not random, i'm actually curious about 498 for a certain, secret (for now) reason.

(What's the opposite of a round number? (And don't say it = -X ) )

@IsaacMoses I assume you wouldn't advocate making such a comment if DoubleAA or ShmuelBrin (randomly chosen longtime users) asked that exact question.

Someone once asked R Moshe Bick how to Kasher his braces for Pesach. When he wouldn't accept "you don't have to" as an answer, R Bick told him to pour boiling water on the braces. "You'll know the kashering is done when you start screaming!" — Double AA ♦ 12 mins ago

@DoubleAA @yEz It's a good thing he reminded me, too! My rabbi told me I should wear it with pride.

@HodofHod I was thinking that, but couldn't bring myself to say it.
But I'll star it when you say it
