@Matt I read it, but I think I'll read it again.....there's certainly a lot of room to say that all mentions of werewolves are only symbolic in nature -- taking the last one as an example: "וכמו שנהפך האדם לזאב אפילו שהוא משנה לאדם בכל שעה יש לו זנב, כך היתה רצועה יוצאת מחלקו של בנימין ונכנסת וכו'."
....but I'll still take a closer look at the other examples; some of them came a little close to not being symbolic.
@Shokhet that's what I think too, he's just explaining why the comparison of Binyamin to a wolf is particularly apt. His peirush is full of those kinds of things

Listened to a shiur about Chanukah on my walk to the store to buy a second box of candles. It was about how the mitzvah of lighting Chanukah candles is so important that, if it comes down to your last dime, and you have to choose between Chanukah candles and wine for Shabbat, get the candles. I got to the store, and the box was $2.16. I had $2 but no change. I asked the guy, “Would you take a card? I only have $2.” “No no,” he said, waving me off. “Give me $2.” I thanked him twice.

Thanks for the answer! Funnily, I've been mistaken for Amish far too often, even with a mustache. Additonally, Chukas Akum seems to apply mostly to things that are immodest or (might) have idolatrous origins (see here, neither of which would seem to apply to the Amish mustache-ban (which seems to be anti-military in nature). If you have a specific source for this, or a reason to believe that Chukas Akum might apply to beards minus mustaches (as opposed to, say, beards plus overalls), I think it'd greatly improve this answer. — HodofHodyesterday
@HodofHod Not that I recall. Funniest thing I recall is when a news organization put up a picture of "Orthodox Jews in Crown Heights" and they picked a picture of a group of Amish people visiting.
@Yishai @HodofHod My sister took a picture of me sitting in front of several computers after the end of the three weeks this year, because she thinks I look Amish.....I have a good enough beard to be confused for my father (which has happened), but very little mustache :(
@HodofHod I was in camp this summer with my brothers (as a lifeguard, not a camper :P) ....several people asked my younger brother why his father was in camp.
