Q: Sefira-days special rules?

loewianIn commemoration/response to the deaths of the talmidim of Rabbi Akiva between Pesach and Shavuos, I was wondering if it might be a nice idea to temporarily modify the rules of Mi Yodeya slightly to reflect the reason that they died so horribly, namely, that they were not sufficiently respectful ...

A: Shelosha Ve'esrim - mi yodeya?

Isaac MosesTwenty three is one of the two days of the Omer on which the Base 7 and Base 10 representations of the count are the reverse of each other, so you end up saying the same two digits, in the same order, twice, when you count.

Creepy search result: JewishTraveling.com's "Ultimate Bug-out bag for the Jewish traveler" includes a two-page checklist (PDF) to print out that has an "Online Resources" section that lists ten websites, one of which is Mi Yodeya.

@IsaacMoses That's cool, but i disagree with their description of a "Jewish Bug-Out-Bag". They themselves quote Wikipedia as saying "A Bug-out Bag is a portable kit that contains the items one would require to survive for seventy-two hours, when evacuating from a disaster." Sorry, but some of this stuff is not really required per halacha. Their are a bunch of hiddurim and minhagim that they put there that you really can do without. I think i'll write this up as a comment on the post...

@Scimonster I could survive without their sheet for 72 hours on the run, but only because I've already memorized the URL mi.yodeya.com.

... and a few backup URLs, just in case: yodeya.com, miyodeya.com, s.tk/judaism, and for when all else fails, j u d a i s m . s t a c k e x c h a n g e . c o m

A: Tzitzit: new bracha after sport?

MefareshThe question revolves around whether or not you were Masiach Daas - a mental interruption or not. This question is a dispute among the poskim as to what is considered a hesech hadaas. The Shulchan Aruch (סימן ח' סי"ד) says ואם פשט טליתו אפילו היה דעתו לחזור ולהתעטף בו מיד צריך לברך כשיחזור ולהת...

@isa
@IsaacMoses how was the Yarhtzeit for Rabbi Anemer, did they get enough people for the siyum?

@Mefaresh Maybe a month ago, R' Rosenbaum made a plea from the pulpit for people to sign up, and the rest of the list filled up pretty quickly after that. The siyum was very nice and well attended. The attendance and the content were a beautiful demonstration of kavod harav.

@IsaacMoses thats so good to hear, i felt really guilty because i didn't sign up, and i felt culpable as a talmid
@IsaacMoses do you have any suggestions to better my post above?

@Mefaresh Put it on your calendar for next year :)
@Mefaresh I took a quick look. It looks pretty good to me.

@IsaacMoses unfortunately its indeliby seared in my memory, he passed away on my wedding night, my wedding was in boro park, but the next days sheva brachos was in baltimore, i found out that morning, even though i was a chosson, i was at the funeral
@IsaacMoses I don't know if that was halachically muttar...

@Mefaresh I don't know the relevant chosson rules, but I'm sure that it wouldn't be too hard to come up with a justification

@IsaacMoses and a MY Question is born (not now though I'm too tired)

7:37 PM
@is
@IsaacMoses Is the lack of up votes to this answer a testament to the low quality of my post or the fact that the question is on hold, i think i did a fairly good job addressing his questions

A: What sort of options are available for pursuing a career in Torah?

MefareshKnowledge in Torah is paramount. Prior substantial experience in a yeshiva environment is key to molding both the potential Teachers mind and storehouse of knowledge which will be needed to draw upon when teaching, but his fear of heaven - Yiras Shamayim, as well which is so important in relayin...

@Mefaresh I can't account for anyone else's votes, but I expect that a closed, low-score question is going to get fewer eyeballs than an open, high-score one. I tend to leave the answers alone if I think that a question that is or ought to be closed would have to change significantly to be properly answerable.

@IsaacMoses wouldn't the fact that i demonstrated that the question is answerable be a reason enough to remove the on hold?
As always helpful suggestions welcome:

A: 3 steps forward after Shmona Esrei of Maariv

MefareshRav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach is quoted in the sefer Halichos Shlomo (Hilchos Teffilah chapter 13- siman 12) saying that one who finishes his Shmona Esrei and has taken his three steps back should stand in place and not move his feet until the Shaliach Tzibbur had begun Kaddish. In the explanation b...

@Mefaresh You wrote a valuable response that does not directly answer some of the sub-questions, partly because some of them are not answerable, as stated. The only part of the question that's fully-answerable as currently stated, IMO - "What options exist?" - you don't seem to have addressed directly.
