A: Among the gentiles, why Job and Bilaam were recognized as prophets whereas Muhammad was not?

josh waxmanThere are many reasons why Muhammad could not have been a true prophet, according to Jewish belief. I'll summarize at the top of this answer and then drill down into particulars. Because of Bilaam's wickedness, as emblematic of the wickedness of gentile prophets, God removed prophecy from the g...

^^^ We have another good, well-supported answer on that question.

@msh210 and any other mods that are around, please check your flags asap
@IsaacMoses ^

@Daniel, I'm not a mod. I went looking for what you were referring to, found it, and flagged and DVed it too.

@IsaacMoses Right I keep forgetting you're not a mod
@MonicaCellio
DoubleAA doesn't seem to be pingable right now

@Daniel Situation resolved.

2:01 PM
@Daniel yikes. Thanks for raising it, and thanks @IsaacMoses for your comment there.
@msh210 I think it's fairly common. Most sites I've seen that have a flagging concept don't have a flag-response concept; you flag and move on and never get any feedback. So between that and the fact that the responses are hard to find, I'm not surprised that many people don't see them.

@MonicaCellio I was surprised when someone responded to a flag I raised a while ago, and I wasn't told about it.....don't want to have to visit my flag history page every once in a while to see if maybe I'll have a message.
It's like me and voicemail :P
Flag responses should really show up in the messages box on top.

@Shokhet if you don't raise a lot of flags that seems intuitive. But consider being on a site where flagging is more common; we'd be pinging lots of people lots of times. And flag responses, unlike comments, answers, or edits, aren't especially urgent -- they can wait until the next time you happen to check, generally. (It's not like you can enter a dialogue via the flag interface anyway -- or rather, if you are inclined to re-flag, it's probably better to come to chat or meta to discuss.)

2:25 PM
@MonicaCellio Makes sense. It's just annoying that someone wrote me a whole paragraph about a flag ( may have actually been you :P ) and I didn't see it for a while.......maybe not a message for every declined flag, but just for when the person reponding to it types a message

@Shokhet oh that's an interesting idea -- notify only for custom responses. It might be worth finding a place in the MSE discussion to suggest that.

@MonicaCellio Maybe later, no time now.

@Shokhet I support posting that as a MSE feature request.
@Daniel I am now :)
