I'm having trouble seeing how this answers the question, beyond the first word ("no") which is an unsupported assertion. Even if what you say about destroying the terrorists is correct, why would that preclude also destroying their houses? — Monica Cellio ♦ 24 mins ago

@Meta-Man @Scimonster I spam flagged; the answer disappeared immediately with the flag marked helpful. I think my flag was the sixth.

@GeminiMan is that hair? I thought that was a hat peeking out from under the word that blocks the face. (What's that little "knob" on top if it's not part of a hat?) And sorry, even being told it's hair I don't know what you mean.

12:48 AM
@MonicaCellio It’s called a queue - the image is saying "Vayeitzei queued" - OK, never mind - have a good week :)

@GeminiMan oh, ok! Thank you for explaining.

@MonicaCellio Incidentally, according to the Torah, Israel is the center of the world, and time related matters should be determined by its location - just saying.

@GeminiMan and if I could just tell SE "end of Shabbat in Jerusalem" and have it do the right thing, I'd go with that. But look up each week individually? Sounds like work. :-)

1:25 AM
@GeminiMan The Chazon Ish thought Israel was only 1/4 of the way around the world, actually. You should be careful when making such sweeping broad pronouncements. Generally speaking, anyone who says "According to the Torah XYZ" is not correct (this excludes people who purposefully respond to this with very obvious things, because that's not generally speaking how that phrase is used).
Anyone have any bio info about the author of this? hebrewbooks.org/8453

This question is in the close vote queue for being "off-topic -- comparative religion." I disagree, because even though the inspiration for this question is an Islamic story, it asks for Jewish sources so it is, in fact, on topic. — Shokhet Nov 17 at 22:39
^^^^ again. I agree that it's a weak question, but still (barely) on-topic.

3:34 AM
@YeZ You are an inspiration ;-)

4:12 AM
@Shokhet Done IMO but feel free to re-edit natch.
@GeminiMan Is that a picture of the answer to "How do we know Yaakov wore a black hat?"?
@DoubleAA I think he was Moshe ben Sh'lomo halevi Epstein. (Happy to help.)
@MonicaCellio First of all, thanks so much for doing this as I've been slacking. Second: What I did for parashiyos (any time of year) was Saturday 18:00 UTC (roughly the end of Shabas in Europe/Israel) to Saturday 01:00 UTC (roughly the start of Shabas in the Americas).

4:33 AM
@msh210 I didn't know we had . Nice job!
D'you think that also applies?

@Shokhet I don't see why it does. But feel free to edit as you see fit.

@msh210 I honestly have no idea what tags apply to that question -- definitely your two; that's all I can say for certain.

@Shokhet Fortunately, although we have , we don't have sheidim-demons. (AFAIK.)

A propos of nothing:

@msh210 :)
@msh210 *eyeroll*
I was a little surprised at this answer, and kicked myself for not answering myself....
+1 ....you're also a Simlah Chadshah guy!? — Shokhet 24 mins ago

@msh210 thanks for the tip. I'll try to remember that in the future.
I've been doing Sunday 00:00 (or whatever the default is) to Saturday 23:59.
But hey, no reason there can't be slight overlaps.

6:04 AM
@MonicaCellio And I'll try to remember to do it in the future.
@MonicaCellio My way doesn't have overlaps of parashiyos.

7:04 AM
All, are we merging judaism.stackexchange.com/q/7848 and judaism.stackexchange.com/q/1619 and, if so, which way? cc @Shokhet, who commented there, and @DoubleAA and @MonicaCellio, who can effect the merge.

7:18 AM
@Shokhet I don't think it's on topic.

@Shokhet You might be interested in this, you had this problem recently, i remember (trying to ping someone):

Q: Allow pinging a user who suggested a rejected edit

Scimonsterfeature-request version of Are users who have a suggested edit rejected valid targets for @comment replies? If a user suggested an edit which was later rejected, they should still be manually pingable on the post.

@DoubleAA ?
@Scimonster Thanks! ...I upvoted that one, and its duplicate ;-)
@msh210 (those comments were made before I learned that I could flag as duplicate ;-)
@msh210 Gershon is still around, and so could accept an answer from any of the ones around.....but the other one already has an accepted answer.....
I don't know which ones should be the main one, in all honesty
@GeminiMan Downloaded it, will take a look. Thanks!

Ploni, welcome to Mi Yodeya, and thanks for your great answer! It's rare to find such a high quality first post :-) ....I couldn't help but wonder if you're the same person as this user; if so, please ask for them to be merged. I can take a break now, i just broke a personal record making my network-wide rep go up 700 in one day...

@Scimonster Wow! Pretty good.
(joined seven new sites, gaining multiple association benefits?)
When my rep hit 200 on MY (a loooong time ago ;), I logged in and was extremely surprised to see that I had gotten 200 rep points -- I knew I was good, but not that good ;-)

6:43 PM
@Shokhet That doesn't count towards the rep in the flair, chat, etc. But i got one upvote on Puzzling to bring it to 200, joined ELL and got 100 rep there + association, 200 on SO, and 100 combined on MY and MSE.
Now i can get back to programming an answer for MY.

6:56 PM
@Scimonster I was under the impression that literally all rep counts for chat, even on sites with <200 rep.....but as I always say; I've been wrong before, and I'll do it again :)
Looking for MSE post to that effect, failing....
[Here] is a request to change it to regular global rep; but it appears that chat rep is literally all rep

7:43 PM
@msh210 oh yeah, you're right. I don't know what I was thinking.

@Shokhet Where?
;)

@Scimonster :)

@Shokhet I just manually added up my rep from sites where i have 200+, and got 16,590. Chat puts me at 16.6k. ;)

@MetaMan is slow...

@Scimonster Voted yes hats.....this should be fun :)

Q: Are we going to get hats?

ScimonsterWinter Bash 2014 is coming up! Should Mi Yodeya have hats? The mods didn't seem to pick up on the trend, so i'm posting it for them. From the MSO post: Here's the rundown: Hats are enabled on a per-site basis, if we don't want them we can disable them here Hats are a fun way t...

@Meta-Man There you are!
1
A: Are we going to get hats?

ScimonsterYes! Hats are the more Jewish than rep or badges - bring them on!

@Scimonster Talking about Meta-Man may be too meta.....

@Shokhet You just wait.

8:36 PM
Waiting..... ;-)
TZT!

@Shokhet I'm debating whether or not to intentionally post a duplicate about Meta-Man on meta, so that Meta-Man can post it here.

Q: Who is Meta-man?

MikeOn V'Dibarta Bam, the Mi Yodeya chat site, one can often find a user named "Meta-Man" sharing interesting meta-posts about site governence or pointing out interesting discussions, but I cannot tell who or what Meta-Man is. It could be a specific moderator with a different name on Mi Yodeya Meta. ...

@Shokhet Yup.

A: What word has the highest numerical value in Tanach?

ScimonsterI did some calculations and came up with the top 5 for each sefer in Tanach, along with the top twenty overall. I also provided my list of top 10 for Torah and Tehillim for comparison with AvnerMil's. For the Tanach source, i used Mechon Mamre's niqqudless Tanach. (I actually did it with code an...

9:39 PM
@Scimonster I saw that and upvoted; I'm impressed :)
@Scimonster Why wouldn't it be?

@Shokhet In order to do those calculations, i needed to ask on SO about opening the Hebrew files programmatically. I ended up losing 48 points to a bounty...

@Scimonster 48?

@Shokhet -50 for bounty + 2 for accept

@Scimonster Ah.

No upvotes, so i'm still lacking a Scholar badge. Ironically.

9:43 PM
According to your SO profile, you didn't give yourself much of an opportunity to get one (three questions and all).....

@Shokhet Yeah, i know. But still, almost 10k. ;)

@Scimonster Nice!
The difference between your rep on SO and this guy's rep on SO must be down to the fact that he has >10x questions, compared to yours ;-)

@Shokhet Or more like his 170 'Great Answers' compared to my 0. ;P

@Scimonster Y'know what, that might help explain it. Just maybe. ;-)

@Shokhet If not for the rep cap, he would have almost 3 million rep

9:51 PM
@Scimonster I ran that query because I didn't believe you. Wow.

@Shokhet And for some reason it's erroring on my UID. :/

@Scimonster Did you ever hit the rep cap?

@Shokhet 13 times
Going for Epic. :)

I just ran it for Alex; not such a big difference -- from 70.7K to 73.8K
@Scimonster Good luck!
I got my first network wide Mortarboard last week, on MSE
(highest rep day on MY: 190)
(if memory serves)

@Shokhet Nice. Never gotten it on MSE or MY.
@Shokhet I count 177. :/

9:55 PM
@Scimonster MSE isn't hard -- I hit the cap two days in a row. You just write a Q/A set that everyone loves
@Scimonster There should be a SEDE query for that, no?

@Shokhet Might be. I just looked at the graph.

I just ran the query for Gershon Gold (current top of all time) -- his rep goes from 77.4K to 91.2K. That's pretty significant.

@Shokhet It keeps getting cut off for me. :/
Trying YEZ (YeZ?) i see 209...

@Scimonster Also, I think it's a little buggy -- I never got Mortarboard on MY, but that query tells me that I would have 5091 rep (instead of current 4289) if not for the rep cap.

@Shokhet You didn't downvote 800 answers, did you?

10:00 PM
@Scimonster Total downvotes: 94

@Shokhet I see. ;) Well, it's not taking into account -150 from bounties.

Shalom goes from 74.6 to 80,026
@Scimonster Still very off, though....
@Shokhet And I don't know how many of those were answers or questions.....

@Shokhet 91 answers? Seems like a lot.

@Scimonster Even if all 94 DVs were answer (which I know they're not), it would still only be -94 rep
Even with bounties, nowhere near 800 points

@Shokhet Upvotes to community wiki answers and self accepts?
(Your year reputation is 91 higher than total, which is why i suggested 91 answer DVs.)

10:06 PM
@Scimonster That might work ..... I posted on CW answer that I can think of, and have accepted many questions
Accepts don't count in the rep cap, though -- those points are always counted.

@Shokhet But that might be why the counter is showing 800+, because you don't get rep for accepting your own answers.
Though, 800, still...

@Scimonster I've accepted a lot of my own answers, true....
Of 21 accepted answers‌, I count six that aren't answering a question of mine.
15x15=225

It's not counting CW posts, actually.
It's actually totally discounting them, which is not how the real rep works.
(You get rep before it becomes CW)

@Scimonster But what about where it was CW from the beginning?

@Shokhet Then no rep. In either calculation.

10:13 PM
Huh.
Anyway, I gotta go; TZ(Y)T!

TZT :)
I need to go to sleep too

Gnight :)

@Scimonster SO is a tough nut to crack. I'm glad I didn't have to spend some of my mere 200 rep there on a bounty to get an answer to this question, but I'm the only person who upvoted the answer and nobody upvoted the question (which I thought was well-asked). Shrug.

10:29 PM
@MonicaCellio Upvoted for being well asked, even though i couldn't totally follow it at the moment. (I got my badge now, btw. )

@Scimonster re your badge: I know. :-)
(Or rather, I know you should have. Glad to hear it was delivered.)
@Scimonster oh hey, you just gave me a Yearling. :-)
