@RoryAlsop - You have been in the SE community a while, how does the Music Practice and Performance beta compare to others that you have been apart of?
@Dom Quite similar at this stage. Better than a couple, in that here we have some guys who really know their stuff (unlike me), but we do seem to attract more than our fair share of folks who don't read the welcome page
@Dom That said, because of the ***ing Heartbleed vulnerability, Security.SE is currently attracting a horde of folks who all think their Heartbleed question is new and unique. 110 questions and counting - all dupes of maybe 5 or 6
Music does have a challenge in that it is so wide/subjective. At least with Security we have quite a strict set of rules. Personal Productivity.SE is a nightmare though - much more difficult than Music: so many people asking entirely offtopic questions like, "how can I make it easier to get out of bed" and "I haven't studied at all, but my exam is next week, what do I do"
@RoryAlsop do you think since the community has grown since the beginning of the beta and since the subject matter of the site is very broad yet easy to go off topic we should have a discussion about what is on topic and what is off topic?
@RoryAlsop I think it's slightly overdue especially since it seems every other week people are strongly debating whether or not a question should be closed.
It is one of those things that is simpler/less confrontational for a non-mod to lead, as we tend to get viewed as forcing our views, but I'm all for facilitating, and helping the views of the majority of active members be supported. (We will always get the odd view that is widely different)
@Dom Which is why it might be better raised by a non-mod - helps us stay out of it and just facilitate, and then once decisions are made, mods just support the results
(we'll get blamed for any disagreements anyway, but at least the definitions of on and off topic are community led) :-)
