@sebascanseco hello :)

hi @rao

rao
so are you not able to see records when you click on plan ?

rao
I see that you speak about plans / and tabs unable to follow your question there

I wonder if All Fields searches in lookup fields of the parent as well

can you elaborate ?
what is not working in your case?

I mean, if I'm looking up for a Plan (Parent) within the Policy (Child) detail page and the field I want to look by is the lookup field from Plan to Company (grandparent)
Plan obj has a lookup to Company... so from Poliza detail Im looking for a Plan of X Company
Are lookup fields searchable at all?
mmm I guess this answer the question: help.salesforce.com/…

rao
so have u created tabs for the plan and company object?

Yes
But I think the key is that lookup fields aren' searchable
:)

And I'm realizing that the org where this is working has a text field in Plan that is compounded of Company name and Plan name (this compounded field is to avoid Plan dupes in same Company). And the org where this is not working has the compounded field of Company ID and Plan Name, thus company name aint searchable. Am I correct?

you may be right, I am not following thoroughly but as you say the lookup fields are not part of searchable fields for a custom object

I mean, it is the only thing that's different between those orgs

rao
jsut a minute

And is understandable that in one org it does work because the company name is embedded in a text field of Plan while on the other org it is the company Id not the name which is embedded

rao
This is exactly what you want believe :

Q: Enhanced Lookups (All Fields)

GirodAre custom lookup fields searchable with the (All Fields) Search Enhanced Lookup on a Custom Object? In this example: I have a "Well" (Custom Object) record that has a look up relationship to a "Rig" custom object. If I type in the name of the Rig into an enhanced lookup on a different record it...

Indeed
Sadly this is a managed released app and the fix will have to wait until next release

I think you are right searching by a lookup filter is not possible though you may try to search by the auto number generated when u created the plan record

Thanks rao

rao
this is not intuitive
any time :) Learnt something today

Me too, testing should embrace searching lookups through all possible fields that the user could think of
thanks
