Does anybody know how to prevent the error in the first run of the following code? It seems that on the first run the coordinates for \tikzmark have not been yet calculated, so the calculation of the intersection point fails:

Is it possible to build the complete filename mcv-name-company.pdf for \includepdf with a given \company. I think there is a little bit tex necceccary. See this MWE:

@GonzaloMedina well they are completely unknown, basically it's like \ref but \ref can typeset ?? but if you are planning to do arithmetic on the values that's harder to fake.
You could just test \expandafter\ifx\csname pgf@sys@pdf@mark@pos@pgfid1\endcsname (ie test the first one is defined which is a test for "first run" but that fails if you add things the version above uses a counter so it checks the last mark set is actually known which is probably a bit safer

@GonzaloMedina Sorry for the delay. I did something similar to what David suggested by getting the intersections twice; first for the no of intersection checking and second if nonzero drawing things. So then it would be something like
The lame \pgfextra{\xdef.....} part is for getting the intersection number available outside the current path. It's not impressive but rather pragmatic.
@percusse When using intersections and remember picture,overlay, a mechanism to prevent error messages while the coordinates are calculated on the first run, could be useful.
@GonzaloMedina Indeed. But one thing I can't get my head around is how to understand if it is the first run. There might be previous pictures already stabilized and that would effect them too.
@GonzaloMedina Just saw this now. Looks like percusse has solved it. Problem is that there is no intersection in the first run so somehow you have to check that an intersection exists before attempting to access the point of intersection.
It only has an error when compiling it there you can see the error by clicking going to first error. It says "Missing $ inserted <inserted text> 1.3 [ h_{1} \ ... " argh its difficult to writ it

Every time I want to open TeXworks, I go to the (Gnome) shell and type the first keystrokes of the app, tex. Gnome suggests me to send an email to Bruno Le Floch instead. :P

@MarcoDaniel essentially list has hooks for setting the label format which trivlist doesn't use (as it's normally used in things like center where the label/item is hidden. or theorems where there is only one item). Its premature optimisation in a way @egreg had to patch a command (theorem I think) in an answer the other day to use list not trivlist so that the formatting could be changed. Had the original used list it would have been a trivial setting.

I was about to access this on the main site, but then I remembered a question about it that I saw long ago. Have you ever see diagrams in books where sets are just amorphous blobs? Isn't there a question already out there that generates this amorphous blob? I can't seem to find it.

how can you make two different numberations, i already saw sometimes the introduction pages was numbered with I II .. IV and so on and the real pages with 1,2 ... and so on
Small trivial question. By default, " typesets as two curly quotes. However, if I use \usepackage[T1]{fontenc} it is now displayed as two straight quotes. The approved way (vide tex.stackexchange.com/a/43562/3406) seems to be to use \textquotedbl. So why does " work?
@Brent: I actually got the 3rd line wrong - pdflatex if changed(myfile.idx) . The correct would be pdflatex if changed(myfile.ind) , which is the resulting file from makeindex.
@FaheemMitha Oh. I've always used two backticks for open and two single-quotes for close. I think I might be upset if " didn't give me upright quotes. Then I only have to remember \textquotesgl(I think)
@MarcoDaniel Currently they are done by number, which makes reading the code a bit tricky: I'm not sure what is best (I suspect ```\<char>`` might be better long-term)

i am writing a script and wrote an introduction and have the timetable, with a pagenumbering in roman, and the rest in arabic, and i would like that the numbering in adobe is the same as on the pages
@JosephWright I guess most people won't have seen expl3 syntax at all so you wouldn't get much further than an introduction to that and xparse in a single talk? unless you want to start at the other end and say why l3 is useful when coding siunitx and similar packages...
@JosephWright I read your posts about expl3 today, but couldn't find an example of program, looping through array elements or defining an array. Is it possible in expl3?
@user4035 Not all programming languages have arrays in that sense. I was just reading the lua manual the other day and similarly there that doesn't really have arrays it just has tables (like l3 property lists) where the key might (or might not) be numeric.
@DavidCarlisle As I said, I do think a data table/record type structure is handy, for example for what datatool or pgfplots do plus things like storing author data. The problem is performance: pgfplotstable is fastest at the cost of csnames
@JosephWright hard to know, depends on the audience (perhaps the organisers can give you a tip:-) if they are hard core tex hackers they may appreciate xparse rather than lots of expandafter, but if they have never seen expandafter being told they may see less of them isn't much of a sales pitch.
My table consists of two groups of rows. The first group contains large values (X,XXX). The second groups contains smaller values (0.XXX). Siunitx aligns all numbers based on the position of the decimal marker. The result isn't beautiful: some numbers are aligned very much the left, while others ...

@Bugbusters because the AMS classes are designed to produce documents according to the AMS house style (where barbara has worked since the dawn of time) People only insert explicit spaces if they want to modify that style.
