Also it seems that some of my messages didn't get it through my campus' net, so I'll explain what I'm scratching my head about now. So, \foo is not written by me and I want to redefine $ in the way it could be hidden behind other macros and behave like this \def$#1${\xdef\bar{\noexpand\foo{#1}}\bar}.

Hello everyone, I'm back with another small question

I'm using the subfiles package in order to split a rather large (~80-100 pages) into smaller parts. Also, I'm collaborating with someone else and so far the package has worked perfectly. However, we are both getting this small warning when typesetting:

/usr/local/texlive/2013/texmf-dist/tex/latex/oberdiek/auxhook.sty: Package auxhook Warning: Cannot patch \document,(auxhook) using \AtBeginDocument instead.

I've searched a bit but couldn't find something specific about it.

@AndrewZabavnikov that's the expected behaviour of xdef (or edef) known in latex as "fragile command in a moving argument" however as xdef isn't a supported interface \protect wouldn't make sqrt safe either, you could use \protected@xdef and then \protect\sqrt but that would just stop expansion so it would be simpler to use \def instead of \xdef

@AndrewZabavnikov yes in my xdef example I used \foo as the xdef token, what you called \bar it makes no difference, if you put math (or many other latex commands) in an \xdef, you will get errors:-)

@s__C I just asked, but beamer internals are "not much fun" (to quote @JosephWright). You might want to post a new question linking to the question that I answered and raising the two issues: why local structure doesn't work, but item does, and why the colour gets inherited by subsequent itemizes.

@s__C There's no harm in asking, but it's always better to post a minimal complete document rather than code fragments. This way it makes it much easier to people who are inclined to help to play with your code.

Hmm got another question now: apparently the subfiles package can't fetch the bibliography used in the main file. When typesetting I get the usual "citation is undefined" error.

and remove () if you don't give a name to the node
