@egreg To be honest, it took a while for me to get sick this time. Everybody nearby was already sick but me. I blame the drought we are having in the country. :)

@PauloCereda I always do the vaccine against flu. Being in class during winter would make me not only a good target for infection, but also a good source for it.
@egreg however, they select couple month in advance couple kins of flu and you're vaccinated only against these. Quite often it happens that there's another dominant flu kin that people aren't vaccinated against.
@percusse: Another problem is the typical corny homograph latex the material often used in certain context that might give pleasure or skin rash depending on the one's self-respect. LOL
@Christoph so if your missing packages are under /usr/share/texmf/tex you probably need to rehash the file database (the !! means it does not search the filesystem each time) or if the missing packages are not there, you need to work out why they are missing:-)

I'd like to learn Tikz, I am thinking of taking finite element course this fall, and can use tikz with my latex to make mesh drawings and grid and such.

@subhamsoni If x=p_1^{a_1}p_2^{a_2}...p_k^{a_k} is the factorization into primes, then the number of factors of x is (a_1+1)(a_2+1)...(a_k+1). For x^n it will be (na_1+1)(na_2+1)...(na_k+1)
@subhamsoni Because it is. ;-) A theorem by Abel, Ruffini and Galois states that it's impossible to have a formula in terms of radicals and rational operations on the coefficients for equations of degree 5 or more. There are formulas for degrees 5 and 6 in terms of elliptic functions.

@egreg I'm sorting out some lecture notes with a few formulas in them. Some of the values are averages, but I'm not really sure whether \bar or \overline is correct. For example, \bar{M}_{\mathrm{n}} seems to have a rather short bar.
@JosephWright I prefer \bar, as \overline{M} is too long. Physicists use \langle M\rangle. If you want a longer bar, there is something on the site; an answer by Hendrik Vogt, in particular.
One can use \bar to put a bar over a letter in math mode, but often the bar isn't wide enough. An alternative is \overline, but this isn't an accent, so it doesn't take into account the skew of the letter. In the following example, the bar extends too far to the left:

@JosephWright I'm not @egreg :) but I generally choose \overline as long as it's a sort-of an "operator", and not really just another variable. This seems to be the case for averages.
