what is the word for calories in siunitx?

@DominicMichaelis I don't think it's an SI unit. You can declare a new unit.

yeah the definition itself is ridicolous :D

@kan You can open a new buffer in org mode and then export the table to LaTeX

kan
@egreg I see... OK, will try. :)
Find this one pretty useful too:

WITCHERY it works

Q: typing @ sign in lstlisting

JRRis there a way to type the "@" sign in lstlisting? I have tried just putting @ or \@ but both don't seem to work: @testing 123 or \@testing 123 it just outputs testing123

@egreg: Did you notice my "small" bug report?

@JosephWright thanks for the siunitx packages it is nice :)

6:57 PM
@DominicMichaelis if that is intended to be the decimal point rather than a thousands sep it should be . :-)

7:09 PM
@David yeah it should be a decimal point

Q: Mac vs Ubuntu LaTeX error

janjustI'm getting a very strange error. I have a LaTeX document that I compile with a Makefile (below), when I compile it on my Ubuntu machine everything is fine, but when I compile it on my mac the first page of my pdf displays an error, the second page is the title page and the rest compiled just fi...

@JosephWright I suspect my last answer wasn't quite the official beamer interface...

Q: Strange issue after removing bug

user29701I removed a bug in my tex code. Now the section is bug free cause it uses code from a Lamport book. But it still is included in the pdf after using pdflatex more than once. what is the problem? can somebody give me a hint for debugging?

Is "Put the bug back." a valid answer? :)

@DavidCarlisle Huh?

@JosephWright Had to make an expandable test for slide number to fit with tables (or at least I think I did)

@PauloCereda Related to this kind of question: YES!

7:38 PM
@MarcoDaniel Sorry, about what?

@MarcoDaniel It works perfectly for me.

@egreg Also with the newest LaTeX3 version?

@MarcoDaniel Everything upgraded at the last versions.
@MarcoDaniel kantlipsum version 0.6

@egreg I get the following error:
! Missing number, treated as zero.
<to be read again>
                   \__int_eval_end:
l.44 \kant[1]

@JosephWright: It seems that the current version of LaTeX3 has a small bug:

\kant[1]
\end{document}

7:46 PM
@MarcoDaniel I see, you're using the SVN version. I don't.

@egreg I installed the svn version today. I am working on a LaTeX3 package and wanted the newest version ;-)

@MarcoDaniel I don't think it's a good idea.
@MarcoDaniel I'm pretty sure kantlipsum doesn't use any deprecated funtion; it surely uses no \__ kernel function.

I wonder what side effects the pdfrender package has...
0
A: It is possible to make fonts appear heavier (darker) in pdf output of Latex?

topskipYou can make the text a bit more heavy by using Heiko's great pdfrender package. Just play with the LineWidth parameter. \documentclass[paper=a4]{scrartcl} \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc} \usepackage[T1]{fontenc} \usepackage{pdfrender,xcolor} \begin{document} \pdfrender{StrokeColor=black,TextRender...

@egreg If @David had written buttercup, we could run the analyzer on the package to look for best practices. :)

kan
@EmacsUsers: Is there a quick way to replace all instances of x by xx in a selected region?

8:02 PM
@kan (replace string "x" "xx" (point) (mark))

kan
@DavidCarlisle I do this with m-x?

or M-: or if you are in transient mark mode (ug) just highlight the region then do M-x replace-string and give the arguments interactively

kan
@DavidCarlisle I don't know what is transient mark mode. But, I'll do this quietly.

@kan if you mark a region and it highlights it then you are if the region is invisible but there you are not.

@DavidCarlisle visual mode. :P

8:12 PM
@PauloCereda I'm sure transient mark mode is better than any lame vim version of it (but I don't like it anyway)

@DavidCarlisle Jealousy. :)

New from the bracket fetish world:
nc_1 = y(1)

   nc_2 = (yy(2)-yy(1))/(xx(2)-xx(1))

   nc_3 = (((yy(3)-yy(1))*(xx(2)-xx(1)))-(yy(2)-yy(1))*(xx(3)-xx(1)))/((xx(3)-xx(1))*(xx(3)-xx(2))*(xx(2)-xx(1)))

   nc_4_prime = yy(4) - yy(1) + (yy(2)-yy(1))*(xx(4)-xx(1))*(xx(4)-xx(3))/((xx(3)-xx(2))*(xx(2)-xx(1))) - (yy(3)-yy(1))*(xx(4)-xx(1))*(xx(4)-xx(2))/((xx(3)-xx(1))*(xx(3)-xx(2)))

   nc_4 = c_4_prime/((xx(4)-xx(1))*(xx(4)-xx(2))*(xx(4)-xx(3)))

  nc_5_prime = (((xx(5)-xx(1))*(yy(2)-yy(1))*(xx(5)-xx(3)))/((xx(3)-xx(1))*(xx(2)-xx(1))))*(1-((xx(5)-xx(2))*(xx(4)-xx(1))*(xx(4)-xx(3))) +

@kan Looks like a crossover of brainfuck and lisp
2

@kan It looks like lisp evaluate it in the scratch buffer and see what you get

kan
@DavidCarlisle you'd get directed M-x doctor. :)

8:21 PM
!!/eightball O great Oracle, is @kan going crazy?

@egreg Psmith, the TeX bot: The great 8-ball says: it is certain.

kan
Oops! :)

@kan See? Better turning again to Galois theory. Oh, Galois himself was crazy!

kan
@egreg True, but, there is this course called numerical analysis (and of course, @David is an expert!) where they do this to me.

@kan My only contact with numerical analysis was during my PhD; somebody tried to teach us some Fortran, with very poor results.

kan
8:33 PM
@egreg See! You guys were very lucky. Just learning what you'd need for your life and doing reasonable things.

@MarcoDaniel I'll take a look

@egreg ooh Fortran! That was cool! :)
@MarcoDaniel: do you have arara 4.0.macaw.04252013? :)

8:52 PM
@PauloCereda I remember only that you had to indent the code because that was how it was done on punch cards. It was a very old version of Fortran, I believe.

@PauloCereda If you like Fortran you should get a job here....
@egreg we only switched our code from that convention in the last 4 or 5 years:-)

@DavidCarlisle My curriculum is typeset in LaTeX, do I have a chance?

@egreg I think Fortran 77 is still used quite a bit.

@TorbjørnT. Not by me.

@egreg more of an Algol 60 man I suppose?

8:54 PM
@egreg No, I was thinking more of numerical models.

@PauloCereda we don't use TeX here:-)

@TorbjørnT. I know at least 15 people who use it. :)

kan
9:39 PM
Comes across to me as a NARQ: tex.stackexchange.com/q/110784/10679
(of course, we should wait.)

10:04 PM
How do I flush elements to left extreme in a tabbing environment?
Firstly, I have to learn directions. I wanted right and I just figure out how that goes.
It's too late here! I am waiting for the OP to react, because I'll come back very late tommorrow.
I am off to sleep.
Bye.

10:32 PM
@kan Bye! Sleep well and don't dream nested parentheses!

11:29 PM
Back from the mass. :)

@PauloCereda hi

@DavidCarlisle Hi! What did I miss? :)

@PauloCereda cricket

ooh
!!/cricket
Psmith, the TeX bot, in fixed font mode: Let's take a look at the last cricket results:

- Cambridge MCCU 157/10  v Middlesex 438/4 &  132/3 *
- Leicestershire 10 &  181/10 * v Leeds/Bradford MCCU 165/10 &  253/10
- Derbyshire 256/10  v Nottinghamshire 325/5 *
- Durham 237/10  v Yorkshire 177/10 *
- Gloucestershire 192/10 &  34/1 * v Northamptonshire 404/10
- Hampshire 500/9  v Worcestershire 159/5 *
- Lancashire 43/2 * v Kent 244/10
- Surrey 351/10  v Sussex 204/2 *
- Zimbabwe v Bangladesh 300/6 *
@David: Cambridge lost again. :)

@PauloCereda same match still not finished, can't you read noffin?

11:37 PM
@DavidCarlisle Wait a minute, it didn't finish yet?

@PauloCereda no Middlesex are still batting (hence the *) they are 3 men out of 10 out, then Cambridge get another go

@DavidCarlisle Do they broadcast that somewhere?

@PauloCereda probably not county matches (maybe on a satellite pay channel but I don't get those) and this isn't even a county match, unlike the others. But you get a more detalied scorecard:

@AlanMunn Hello! What are you waiting before starting to learn LaTeX3? ;-) Unfortunately I'm going to bed in a few minutes.

11:52 PM
@egreg Oh no, Alan ran away! :)

@PauloCereda I'm going too. Good night.

@egreg Buonanotte! :)

and me:-)

@DavidCarlisle Good night, David!
